Surveyor "Spinning"

One of my favorite Trainz routes is Chicago Metro 3, by Sniper297. I'm in the progress of making extensive session and small route upgrades, and I have saved it under the name Chicago Metro 3 v2. Okay, enough with the dillydally, on to the problem. :hehe:
So recently whenever I go into surveyor in this route only, the camera view starts Whirling Around at high speed (rotating). i have had this problem before, but it's always gone away before. I've tried everything. I've tried Find Object, i've tried leaving and re-loading surveyor, I've tried the mini-map (that rotates too!), and I've even tried saving under a different name! could it be a certain asset that is causing the problems, or is it a glitch with the mac version? Thanks in advance.

This doesn't sound like an asset problem, but more likely a sticky mouse or a driver issue.

Try slowing down the mouse movement in the Surveyor options and see if that helps.

I have had this problem on occasion and felt that it was due to touching a wrong keyboard key - trouble is. I don.t know which one!

A couple of possibilities, albeit long shots:

  • Going from Surveyor to Quickdrive using Ctrl+F2 option can sometimes cause strange spinning when close to a trackside camera. I’ve particularly noticed it when doing it directly from the Walk, or Fly, options. Pressing Esc usually returns things to normal.
  • In Surveyor Options you could try selecting camera behaviour to panning rather than rotation.

It is on panning and I always use the driver button. It doesn't happen when I press a certain button, it happens every time I enter surveyor on this route. The reason I think it's an assets problem is this is the ONLY route it happens on (so far). I'l try slowing the "compass speed" down, see if that works.
EDIT: Didn't work.

I haven't even seen a Mac for 10 years, but last I checked there was only one mouse button? :hehe: Can't think of anything in the route that would trigger something like that offhand, but I'll ponder it for a while.

Just looked at my Mac Classic (nine inch screen!) which must be over 20 years old as I had it before retiring in 1991 - and it has only one mouse button! I'd completely forgotten that.

Why have I still got it? Nostalgia, I suppose - but it could still be used, I expect - for simple tasks like a catalogue.

Okay, first thing to try - if you made any changes to the original Chicago Metro 3, delete it and redownload. Check in unmodified Chicago Metro 3, see if that has the same problem as your clone. If not, then save your clone and all the sessions to CDPs in content manager, then delete all the sessions and create a new one, see if it still does it. If it does the problem is in the route, not sessions, and if the problem is in your clone and not the original then it's something you added to the route. If it doesn't, then you know the problem is in one or more sessions, so reinstall those from the backup CDPs and start eliminating them one by one until you find the culprit.

Since I don't have a mac and can't think of any asset that would cause something like that, you're down to process of elimination - eliminate everything that's not causing it and whatever is left is the problem.

When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. - Sherlock Holmes

The only session I have is the 40th 3020 with extensive modifications, don't know why that would be causing any problems, but I'll check out what you said and also what mezzo said about pressing esc., I don't think I saw that when I first read the post.

Problem Solved by placing a trackside camera.

Interesting.

If you can confirm this, perhaps you should put a ticket into the helpdesk to report this as a bug. The support guys Zec and Kris will pass this on to the developers for fixing later on if they can do it.
