Even three or four sleepers can represent the majority seen on US railroads in the 50's: 10-6s, 6-6-4s, 10-5s, and 4-4-2s were all extremely common. How about some good generic Budd streamliner cars with the ribbed sides which were so common from the late 1930s until the 1970s, and are still found on tourist railroads and in private collections?
They will only need the railroad name and a coach number, and can used for multiple railroads including the SP, ATSF. UP, CNW, New Haven, PRR, NYC, Reading, CPR, CNR, B&O, and many, many others.
