CIRCA 1943- Two Union Pacific Big Boys, #4000 and #4006, doublehead with a string of refers. A layover in the yard has caused backups, and more than one 4000 class was required to move them.

A railfan looks on as rebuilt SP Daylight #4451 assists in cleaning up the wreck of a local CP passenger train early one morning on the Conrail Lincoln Secondary Subdivision.

A UP yard switcher works the west end of a local yard on the Conrail Lincoln Secondary after their diesel switcher developed mechanical problems and had to be given a complete overhaul. #4609 is currently assembling a freight train that will depart for St. Louis later this morning, pulled by preserved UP TTT 7/6 5501, currently owned by a local preservation society who uses the engine on revenue freight along with excursions for railfans.

Image not resized because nobody else seems to be doing it, so I'm assuming it's fine at least for the moment.

Another wreck caused by protestors forced the CN to call in visiting engine UP FEF-2 #820, leasing it from the local preservation society whose volunteers have done an amazing job keeping her in full working order. Two of the protestors committed suicide in this wreck and the engineer of the hijacked BN GP9 committed suicide by (yoicks) standing on the coupler as the engine smashed headlong into a stolen MP GP15. A local railfan, who decided to build a perch in a tree, photographed the wreck.

Goodness, you're feeling a little morbid this evening, haddock56 ...

I wouldn't say 'morbid' is the word, but I was a little ticked off at the time I took this screenshot and posted it. Also I took this shot bc I rather hate diesels and would rather see steam engines return to active service. I don't care what the rail management thinks of that prospect or the government for that matter; it would create jobs so people could be able to provide for themselves and their families.

Hmmm ... it would be interesting to see whether the extra jobs created with the railroads would balance all the jobs lost in the rest of the economy because rail transport suddenly became more expensive and less efficient. On economics, diesel beats steam all hollow ... :(

True, they do have that on their side. I think if every railroad brought back one steam engine that would be a workable balance. I'll try to post something different next tim. by the way how did you like my camera angle on that screenie of the UP switcher?
