Solve This Mystery

I recently downloaded (from the DLS) a steam locomotive- NYC-Mohawk-3135 kuid 2:44797:3135:1. (for version 2.4) This is one of several Mohawks on the DLS. It had some missing dependencies which I found and a few errors which I fixed. I then opened for edit in notepad (using explorer) committed and closed CMP. Then went to Railyard to mark in favorites. Here is the mystery. NYC-Mohawk-3135 shows in favorites listing but is not physically there, just the little thumbnail. It does not show up in Surveyor either. To be sure I did not forget something, I opened for edit and committed several times and still no Mohawk. View dependencies shows zero missing and zero faulty or broken. I am out of ideas to solve this. Any and all assistance will be appreciated. I am using Trs2006 and it works very well for me.

Thanks, tomurban

Hmm, I have had this 2006 as well sometimes. Make sure the config.txt contains the tags: eginespec, enginesound and hornsound. If either of these is missing and the engine flag is set (true), your locomotive won't show up.

Hope this helps.:)

Jan: Thank you. I am going to check the config. file right now.

Tom

Config.text follow up. Enginespec, engine sound, hornsound are all there. Enginespec kuid is 81997:52482. Is there a better one that I can substitute. Thanks again.

Open USRA 482H Engine Specs,<kuid:81997:52482> for Edit in Explorer (in CM) and remove the line:
epbrakes 1
then save and commit.

Bob: This is a chump file and not editable by me. I did the enginespec change suggested by Bob Cass but still no engine. Took a look at kuid table and bogey kuids look messed up. getting late here and time to quit. Tomorrow is another day. Thanks to all for your input.

Take Care Gentlemen, Tom

If you see a chump file you're not doing it right. Start CMP, find the USRA enginespec kuid, right click on it and select Edit - Edit in Explorer. Double click on the config.txt file and delete the epbrakes line. Save and commit.

Hi Bob: I found, fixed and committed the enginespec file as you suggested, but no loco. On a hunch I used CMP to searched for open items. To my surprise 8 of the 12 or so dependencies for this locomotive were open for edit. (I did not open them) I did a mass commit, opened Surveyor and there it was. A very impressive NYC Mohawk and the horn (whistle) will blow you away (literally). Again thanks to all who helped solve the mystery. CASE CLOSED.

Regards to all, tomurban:) :)

Anytime you add an asset to Trainz, the kuid will be open for edit unless you have Automatic Commit set. To check this, start CM and in the top menu, click on File - Settings and select the Miscellaneous tab. Check the box for 'Automatically commit when installing CDPs' in the upper right corner.

There are four different ways stuff can be added to Content Manager:
1. DLS.
2. Import CDP menu item
3. Import content menu item
4. Double click a .cdp file in Explorer

Stuff downloaded from the DLS should automatically get committed.
Stuff imported via the menu items will only be committed if enabled in settings.
Stuff imported by double clicking on a .cdp file will be committed even if the automatically commit option in settings is off.

Hello tomurban,

What is strange in this respect, is that when you start trainz you didn't get a dialog box with something like "some items are open for edit, do you want to continue?" That's what happens here if I start trs2006 with anything not committed.

With TS2010's Content Manager you can configure what to do when launching Trainz from it:
Ask what to do
Don't commit assets
Automatically commit assets
Automatically commit and reopen assets

I think automatically commit is the default.

Well, he mentioned using trs2006 in his first post, so I wondered.:hehe:

I do have TRS2006 and do not get the items open message. I have set CMP to auto commit as per Bob Weber. That should resolve the issue for future downloads. Thank you to all for the follow up posts. It has been a while since I read the manual. Perhaps I need to read it again.
