Phil,
While you do raise a good point in that the screenshots are already on the internet, i rather think you do miss the point.
The way i understand it, the screenshots contributed would most likely be shots that have not been posted on the here on the forums or elsewhere. They would, ideally, i think, be shots that the Author has taken of their own work, to better showcase it, not being constrained by regulations as regards posting on the forums. (wider shots, higher quality, etc.)
Also, with regards to pictures already being on the forums: These images are uploaded through third-party image hosting sites, most of which require registration for the purpose of uploading images, so that you can post them here and elsewhere. Most of these sites have rules and regulations to follow, with regards to uploads, and i am sure that many would have a time frame in which an account has to be used before it is considered inactive, and cancelled.
This cancellation of an account makes the link provided here to show the picture useless, as the account no longer exists, and the pictures are removed from the database. Same goes for breach of rules: account is cancelled, pictures are removed, links to said pictures are useless.
So, if you want to browse through a 400+ page thread in the screenshot forum, to find a half-remembered pic that may or may not still be there, by all means, go ahead. I won't stop you.
So, i hope that makes it seem like a worthwhile idea, but if not, it's no skin of my nose, or even Kevin or Jennifer's nose.
I personally think this is a brilliant idea, and does have some potential, if people will get behind the idea.
I think there would most likely be two main groups contributing to this project, being route creators showcasing the results of long hours researching and constructing a prototypical 200+ kilometre route, or an equally well constructed fictional; or rollingstock builders, putting their creations through the paces, and showing the locos/wagons on a route that compliments the rolling stock.
I would even offer a few shots of my own, but i do not fit into the two categories i defined above, being as i do not create rolling stock, and my route-building efforts are not overly spectacular. Perhaps a special 'How Not To Do It' DVD.:hehe:
Kevin and Jennifer, i think that this is a great idea, and you have my full support in this endeavor, even if i do not contribute to the collection. Here's hoping the community as a relatively large whole get behind this.
Good luck,
Matt.
