Content & Picture DVD
Hi All

Just to let you all know that a demonstration is now available for you to view at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMg3CSO6hHo

You can visit our web site for further information (Click on Breaking News)

www.kj-trains.co.uk

All we need now is for users who would be interested in having there screenshot content on DVD

We have 4 interested users so far but we need a lot more.

Check out the video and let us know what you think.

Remember it is web quality, the final DVD copy will be much better.

Thank you all

Hope everyone is having a good weekend

Kevin & Jennifer

Sorry if I'm missing the point, but what was wrong with having them on the internet where everyone can see? (I'm guessing that the DVD will be distributed to anyone who wants one)

About the brackets statement:
If not: why bother, they're on your computer anyway!
If so: Don't you think it's a bit of a faff?! Why can't you just look at them on the internet (which is free)?

Personally I don't think anyone will even consider buying what is already freely available on the internet! (In other words (still my opinion)- stop now, don't waste your time making them)

Regards,
Phil

Hi Phil

In reply to your comments I will try to answer

I agree with you that yes the screenshots are on the internet for all to see. I am not trying to do away with that.

I propose to compile a DVD with a selection of screenshots which users submited to me.

I know from past experiance that some screenshot form the forum takes time to load (more so with a lot of Hi Res pics) This might not be a problem for some who say have broadband running at 20meg speeds but people on a lower speed have to wait.

Also the DVD would be a selection of screenshot from various users or if a user wanted we could create a full DVD for them.

This is not just putting the pics on DVD but also creating a main menu selection system etc.

I have 5 users interested so far so I feel that there is a market within trains for this

Thank you for your comments

If I'm not anyone.. then I'm noone. If I'm noone... then I can haunt people!

*Follows Zec*

I am still interested, you have one certain buyer :)

Steve

Isn't it technically no-one? :p That's how I spell it anyway

Kevin & Jennifer: I run on 8Mb broadband (only actually runs at 6-7Mb) and I have never had to wait more an a few seconds to view pictures

Phil,

While you do raise a good point in that the screenshots are already on the internet, i rather think you do miss the point.

The way i understand it, the screenshots contributed would most likely be shots that have not been posted on the here on the forums or elsewhere. They would, ideally, i think, be shots that the Author has taken of their own work, to better showcase it, not being constrained by regulations as regards posting on the forums. (wider shots, higher quality, etc.)

Also, with regards to pictures already being on the forums: These images are uploaded through third-party image hosting sites, most of which require registration for the purpose of uploading images, so that you can post them here and elsewhere. Most of these sites have rules and regulations to follow, with regards to uploads, and i am sure that many would have a time frame in which an account has to be used before it is considered inactive, and cancelled.
This cancellation of an account makes the link provided here to show the picture useless, as the account no longer exists, and the pictures are removed from the database. Same goes for breach of rules: account is cancelled, pictures are removed, links to said pictures are useless.

So, if you want to browse through a 400+ page thread in the screenshot forum, to find a half-remembered pic that may or may not still be there, by all means, go ahead. I won't stop you.

So, i hope that makes it seem like a worthwhile idea, but if not, it's no skin of my nose, or even Kevin or Jennifer's nose.

I personally think this is a brilliant idea, and does have some potential, if people will get behind the idea.

I think there would most likely be two main groups contributing to this project, being route creators showcasing the results of long hours researching and constructing a prototypical 200+ kilometre route, or an equally well constructed fictional; or rollingstock builders, putting their creations through the paces, and showing the locos/wagons on a route that compliments the rolling stock.

I would even offer a few shots of my own, but i do not fit into the two categories i defined above, being as i do not create rolling stock, and my route-building efforts are not overly spectacular. Perhaps a special 'How Not To Do It' DVD.:hehe:

Kevin and Jennifer, i think that this is a great idea, and you have my full support in this endeavor, even if i do not contribute to the collection. Here's hoping the community as a relatively large whole get behind this.

Good luck,

Matt.

Ok, ok, ok Don't bite my head off Matt, just because my opinion is different to yours does not mean I am wrong. (I know you won't meant to put your reply in that tone, so I'm not taking it personally)

About breaking rules, rules are there to stop people uploading inappropriate stuff unsuitable for kids, I doubt anyone would see a train as inappropriate :) (Although I admit some pics are deleted by the hosting company)

I do see your point Matt, but to see a screenshot I would rather find it by searching through a thread rather than buying a CD which takes time to come and I still maintain is a faff and an expensive way to do it (in my opinion)

An Idea- instead of CD's why not set up a image hosing website which won't delete peoples photos so they will last forever on the internet :) (saving people money and time) (You can do it on that site of yours already- just upload somebody's photo to a designated folder and the link will be "KJ-trains.co.uk/foldername/imagename.jpg" )

OFF topic: JK- I recommend you submit your site to "railserve.net", you will get quite a bit of traffic from there (and hopefully more sales)

Regards,
Phil

Hi guys,

Good luck to all enterprises over this game! -Don't forget it is a game- Some fortunately earn a living out of it and others have a good time. That's the spice of life.

IMHO nobody is earning a living by selling DVD'd screenies but at least they could cover expenses for making others save time -which usually is a very valuable asset-. ;)

I don't want to spoil the party but remember there are a lot of applications (some of them freeware) for creating photo-DVD's, with handy and superb navigating menus. Skills needed: Just click and go.

http://www.photo-dvd-maker.com/freeware-DVD/

and more...

Take care,

A commentary on the overall,

a.) hey, if ya don't ask ya won't know.

b.) the only way to find out, is to find out.

Hi all

Well we now have a selection of comments so far. Some for and some against (I like the last post).

We will try and explain a little further on this venture.

Yes we agree that there are a lot of pictures within the screenshot forum which are free to view for everyone. We don't intend changing any of that.

We also note that some of these screenshots appear with a empty box with a little red cross in the corner meaning that the image is not available.

We would like to preserve all the screenshots of the creators. The people who have taken the time to create fantastic layouts want to show us all because they are proud of them and we commend them for there efforts.

By suppling them to us we can transfering them onto DVD media and present them in a catalogued order the way the customer wants.

Yes other people could do this for there own use.

So why should we be given the chance to do it for them you might ask.

Well we can 'fix' all the pictures and add the user name and/or web site to all of the pictures. Developers might like to show a selection of there work which have not been displayed before.

I know that a lot of people save there shots on to there computer and may even back them up on disc. We organise them for the user into an order which through the menu system on the DVD can be acessed at a push of a button. Just think what you screenshots would look like on a 40 inch wide screen tv

We can create either a mixed DVD which would have pictures from various users or a DVD from one user which they could use for personal use or allow us to sell it to other buyers. Just think a full DVD of your own creations being veiwed by lots of other people. Great if you sell your assets or want to show how good your routes are.

This is great if you get some friends round (with a few beers :) )and you all can sit and watch on a big screen rather than all standing around the computer

At least give us a chance to show what we can do and you will not be disappointed. We do offer value for money as you will see by the amount we would charge for this service

FYI.... noone is spelled.... no one.

Hope this helps.

Have fun,:)

Oh there you go correcting grammar again Ron...

:hehe:

Anyhow, I see the basis of the idea as a good one, but I rather suggest perhaps a DVD containing in-game videos submitted by users. A high quality one at that, so basically they would have to be previewed by the "producer" and approved for content, realism and like matter. Then, give it some visual effect, some music and perhaps some credits and it could be a neat little demonstration video that could be used at train shows and the like.

Just my Thoughts,
Woody

Hi Woody

:) :)
Good suggestion and yes we can do video as well

I have mentioned this in the past and we would lookforward to the production of our first DVD once we get enought takers on this venture.

We have all the facilities and knowledge just waiting to be used.

I agree on both sides of the coin. I'm not one to buy DVDs/Cd's but I've offered my help. I must say like thay say "if you don't work don't stop Intel the jobs done." I ameat I'm made some horrible routes and locos. but i'm pushed aside the bad out come and worked on improving my building skills and thay are batter.

I like the idea so i'm in.:)

not avery one will agree with this and I can fully understan. no skill is a worthless skill.

Phil,

My apologies to you. I did not mean to come across quite as strong as i did. Nor was i attacking you because your opinion differed from mine. I was merely stating what i aw as being the intent of this venture, which i think i will be a worthwhile one, IF people get behind it. Unfortunately, i was feeling a little trigger happy last night, and that came out in my reply. So, again, my apologies to you for any offense caused.

Now, on to the topic at hand, i do have a question, with regards to quality control, for lack of a better term. What quality of shots would you be accepting? Is this open to any effort, or would you only acccept high-res shots taken of realistic scenes, that show little if any errors?

Matt.

Hi Matt
In response to your questions we will accept any shots for consideration (but no thumbnails)
All we ask is that the shots are taken preferably in Driver mode with the F5 button pressed to eliminate the on-screen display controls.
We will do any alterations to the pictures that are needed in order for them to be displayed correctly on television.
The pictures can be on anything from scenery to loco’s. Remember it is your creations here and your are the proud person who wants everyone to see them. Also you can submit shots which are not displayed in this forum.
We feel that the time is right now for users to start submitting there shots that they would like to be included in the first release DVD.
In order to do this please follow these instructions carefully. First select the shots you want to send us then create a zip file (WinZip preferred). Include a txt file with your details (name, contact email address, company name if applicable and any details you would like added to your pictures). Make sure your pictures have relevant names i.e. not just numbered 1, 2,3 etc. If you have a lot of pictures to send it might be better to put them into a few zip files. Now sent them to Kevin@kj-trains.co.uk
We will look at them and email you back within 48 hours
As you all have friends within the trainz community tell them about us and get them to submit there pictures to. The more we get the better.
So please start submitting now
We are also looking into the suggestion Woody made about Video. We will be making a demo soon and will keep you informed
Looking forward to your picture files

it's OK Matt, I myself can be a little "trigger happy" at times so I know how easy it is to accidentally upset people.

No offense taken.
