Reverse Engineering (no pun intended)

"I don't know about you, but I would rather import the handful of new stuff from TC into 2006 (or 2004), than the other way around. Maybe when they get the platform stable again for the long term, I'll transfer all my content to a new platform, but not before."

I totally agree with you ED this way makes a lot of sense: Now the ditch lights on the TC rolling stock, this may not be to hard to get working after all Pill C proved that you can get them working in 2006 with his payware. Maybe a few adjustments to the scripts perhaps?

Now THAT is something worth tinkering over.

They just made more money off of me....got Trainz Railways now

and my Pal who only has 2004 now gets a copy of 2006 as well :D

Would't It Be Neat to have a Utility to.....

Wouldn't it be neat to have a utility to transfer assets back and forth between TC, TRS2006, TRS2004? Something like Trainz Objects that can clean up files as it moves back and forth between verisons. I don't believe that I am the only one that would pay $$$ for such a time saving utility.

The good news seems to be that backwards forwards verison formating is possible. Bad news is it will take time and effort to do it. Unless someone can develop such a utility.

Just to let you know the one way traffic roads in TC do not work that way in 2006, they revert back to two way. The headlights of the cars also do not light at night.
Well they wouldn't, since the features in the code which make them possible is not in '06 but is new for Classics 1

Mike.

See this is what these Trainz Classics Add-ons should be built as add-ons for TRS2006. I'd prefer to have one game with many add-ons to buy from Auran insted of having a new Trainz edition every two years. Prefer one base game and buy what we want off of that. I know Trainz Classics has that, but it starts from scratch that makes people with TRS2006 routes and content unable to continue with the series. -Chris

Classics is not just content (ie. add-ons), there are code updates, new features and core code optimisation.

Mike.

After the ditchlight question, I wanted to be clear on what I've tested, lest others that read this thread do not realize that:

"Classics is not just content (ie. add-ons), there are code updates, new features and core code optimisation."

Ed:wave:

I mananged to import that cool Genisis cab (interior) from TC into '06 to give the P42 Genesis pack a much needed interior. I had to use '06 CMP to correct the 'faulty' TC interior, it killed the digital readouts, but it does work :D
I guess that's the part where Mike 10 says:

Exactly right, and a good use for this procedure....I never thought about that end of it. You're right to remind us that "Classics is not just content (ie. add-ons), there are code updates, new features and core code optimisation. "

Little by Little, Bit by Bit.....

Little by little, bit by bit Ed is becoming a fan of TC.:hehe:

Y'know, for all this great stuff he's doing, you'd never have thought that a lot of his old content seems to show a liking for making everything...bendy.

I've looked through every piece of faulty content from him, and they ALL say "Error: The tag 'bendy' is not permitted in this container!"

Bend that truck, Ed!

Bendy was a tag that was used to allow items to be tilted in surveyor. Of course, this all changed, and now the tags are obsolete. It's not the worst fix to have to make....is it?

Ed:D

Ah, TILTED. I get it. I thought "bendy" was for splines that needed to bend...lol

Still, you must admit, for someone who doesn't know about the older versions, it's a bit funny to have "Beach Person 5"'s error be "The tag "bendy" is not allowed in this container!"

:hehe:

I think he was a fan all along. He's just letting us in on it bit by bit! 8-)

Although I think he's confused about the bendy thing. Good thread Ed keep it up!
