I used to play around with Trainz a few years ago and did get a lot of fun out of it. Probably would have been TR2006 I guess. I did get a lot of fun out of running coal out of the mountains and a couple of proto routes that I downloaded. I think at the time the big letdown for me was the interior graphics and the scenery that seemed below par compared to other simulators of the time. For eg flight sim 2004. The cars in the station carpark or on the roads looked like the sort of thing a kid might make with a sheet of card and a pair of scissors. I also remember the hassle of trying to locate and download a whole bunch of assets.
When Microsoft announced they would be making a new Train Sim and posted some screenshots I got my hopes up but sadly the ACEs Team got canned and that was that. So I gave Trainz10 a miss and after a few recent emails from Auran I bit the bullet and purchased Trainz12.
The locos that come with it look pretty good from the outside but jumping in the cab or taking a passenger seat I must say I was a bit underwhelmed by the quality of the graphics. Is it the Jet2 engine? Similarly I cant say I have seen a big improvement in the outside views. The trees look a bit 2D-ish and the buildings have a funny flat fuzzy 2D look as well. I do like the weather effects.
The reason for my post is what, if any is the solution? I am happy to pay for good payware to fix the interior views (assuming it exists) and I can live with the scenery although again I would be happy to buy good USA proto routes to drive around on. Do I have to buy a First Class Ticket and is it more user friendly.
Thanks for any comments or help.
