Realistic weather

I was thinking, everything has changed in trainz, from boring barely detailed trainz to the new generation HD ones, boring static treez to speedtreez! One thing has remained the same though... Weather.

I would like to see weather that is realistic! Rain, at the moment, goes through tunnels! Its embarrising! Couldn't auran write a bit of code that stops rain passing through objects?

Snow! snow makes routes so much better! Perhaps there could be a "blanket effect" when it starts snowing? Something that covers the ground in a white sheet?

Note that i am not criticizing auran, i am not complaining; i am simply pondering what could make a future version of Trainz better!

I'm only using TRS2006 but I can't stand those snowflakes the size of baseballs. :p And it really urks me when they come right through the cab  . I usually run in clear weather because of the issues with other weather. Auran should take a look at the weather systems in MS Flight Simulator for a start. :o

I agree with you, the weather sim is in a need of an overhaul. One point you haven't mentioned is the skies. Notice they do not change when you enter a different weather setting. This is especially obvious with custom skydomes. To see what I'm getting at, get a clear blue skydome from the DS and set up a route in surveyor using this sky. Now set the weather to raining. It rains from a clear blue sky! Perhaps an redo of the skies to conform to the weather, perhaps? Also being able to set the air pressure, as that affects the weather big time (high pressure - clearer weather, low pressure - wet weather). In fact, air pressure is one of the main reasons we have weather in the first place.
However, we don't want the weather sim getting to complicated. This is trainz, not the Met office. :hehe:

TS 2010 has taken many strides forward in regards to Seasons/Weather. For example certain speedtreez change depending on the month and the longitude/latitude settings in the orgin. Also certain trees/ground textures are effected by the snowline which can be changed in the environment setting.

That is why if I ever have any setting other than Clear, I use a Storm Clouds sky, so when it rains (which is always within 10 minutes of starting with the weather set to change "periodically"), it looks right, and when it doesn't, it still looks right (especially here in the Pacific Northwest!).

In fact, in every session I have run, the sim starts off dry, turns to rain before the 1st consist can even get up to full speed, and within half an hour (on 4x speed) is a full-out deluge with thunder and lightning! I wonder what "extreme" setting does!

Sounds like you need the WeatherControl V2 rule.

You've been missing out! :D
