Re-orienting/rotating maps

What are you looking at?
Think maybe Trainz could add the ability to "rotate" routes? That is, re-orient them, so we don't have to copy, rotate, and paste again sections of a route, since copying and pasting doesn't always translate everything perfectly. There are several routes that would be perfect merging partners if it weren't for their orientation.

It would be nice to be able to merge, end to end, an east-west route with a north-south one.

The biggest hurdles that I can see are caused by the rotation needed:-
  1. the bigger (longer) the route the more its end points have to swing through a 90 deg arc and each object (including splines) also has to be rotated around its vertical axis
  2. the terrain, textures and effect layers would also have to be rotated
Not impossible but the processing power (and time needed) could be considerable.

My thoughts.

Boy, oh boy would this be a dream come true if this was possible! This is something we've asked for since the earliest days.

The problem, from what we were told in the now long-gone forums, is the objects on a route are tracked by their X, Y, Z location on the route. If the route orientation is changed, this will cause the assets to be lost according to Trainz.

I'm sure that rotating a route is possible, but updating the data-files would take a very long time as asset-positions are updated, considering the thousands of objects installed on a route. We think merging takes a long time. I can well imagine this process taking even longer on top of the initial merger.
