Railworks 2 - Any good?

Those were the days, at least I could VAGUELY focus on escitalopram... Unfortunately, it didn't do much for my problems, so here I am on 30mg of paroxetine, unable to focus, and utterly suicidal if I forget them for a day.

Hi Nikki,

i believe that paroxetine is an older medication and one i have not had experience of. ;)

Cipralex has helped me slightly, but my life style is still very restricted. I have been on it since dec 2004.

Mike.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it!

Won't help you with railfail, the way they keep disabling good features and introducing useless ones is designed to drive you crazy. :hehe:

"That's only one question, do you wish to have pretty or smart women........"

Both. I'm greedy so I'd rather have a pretty one who is also smart - but if I have to choose one or the other I'll take smart, "you can't fix stupid". That's why I'm here, if Railworks had any smarts at all I would have stayed with it.

I don't even know why RailDross is being discussed here.

This is the Trainz Community section, for discussing TRAINZ related topics.

RailCrud lowers the whole tone of our neighbourhood. :hehe:

Elementary, my dear Welshman, this is probably the only place on the internet where you CAN talk about Don'tWorks honestly and openly without getting all the screaming hysterical conniption fits from the fanboys. :hehe:

Can't we just bring back good ol' fashioned Barbiturates?

But in my opinion, RW2 is fine. No real gripes, but I can't say I'm a fanboy of either Trainz or RW. They bother have their places.

Almost...

Any forum about steam that isn't railworks dedicated will happily let you slate it - they're utterly sick of being told about new DLC being released for it. There are thousand-strong movements to try and get valve to ban railworks because of how intrusive the 'new DLC' ads become when there is a new piece of DLC for sale every week.

Much more fun to actually rip it to bits on a "RailDud" dedicated forum, though Nikki. :D

Mike.

Maybe? It's now a drug and RW bashing/accepting thread.

Although I still say bring back the good ol' fashioned Barbiturates! Hear hear.

"Perhaps this thread should now be locked?"

Why? That's the main trouble with other websites, only cheerleading is allowed. I'm a moderator over at trainsim.com, got a bunch of alerts on a "happy" thread where people were griping, rather than deleting the gripes I created new gripe threads and moved the gripe posts into those. One of the admins pulled rank on me and deleted both gripe threads, which only adds more fuel to the suspicion that Railworks is some kind of sacred cow that nobody is allowed to kick.

"in my opinion, RW2 is fine"

That's an opinion, I have the opposite opinion, as long as we're not fighting each other and respecting the other guy's opinion, what's the point of locking or deleting threads and posts? Mind you I'm speaking only for myself, other moderators over there (everybody is not me) will have the opposite opinion and will lock threads that I don't see a reason to lock. I don't know any of the moderators over here so I don't know what their standards are, but most places as long as people are getting along there's no valid reason to lock a thread.

Trainz isn't perfect, I have one AI train that insists on crossing over to the wrong track then running thru yard tracks even tho the mainline is open for him, I really shouldn't NEED to have him "navigate via trackmark" just to stop him from taking the long way around merely because an alternate path is available. Sometimes the AI can do super complex switching operations, other times they can't find their way to a track marker no matter how simple it is and how many navigate via instructions you try to help them out with. But it's a hell of a lot better than the Rube Goldberg contraption that Railworks uses for AI logic.

"why not supply proper stock", once again, Mike - why bother? What the hell difference does it make if everything is included to make the blasted thing LOOK realistic if it won't OPERATE realistically? The car has no wheels, giving it a shiny new paint job won't help. Take out the carburetor and replace with fuel injection, change the spark plugs and give it a tuneup, make the engine run better and you're still going nowhere because IT HAS NO WHEELS. I could create an accurate realistic Chicago Elevated route detailed down to the last rivet, someone could make accurate EL and subway cars, and it would look beautiful - except it's a still life, there's no way to bring it alive by recreating the traffic, so what's the point?

Well over the years there's been a suggestion that Auran have a section for "Other Sims/Games" specifically, but they never did which is why RS/RW/RW2/MSTS et al end up getting discussed in Prototype or Community. A pragmatic discussion about RW might actually be good for Auran in so far as, 1. Boosting sales after people decide they may buy TS2010 instead and 2. Learn from RSC's mistakes.

It's also nice to be able to discuss in a constructively critical manner without sarcy put downs, which are still being posted by a few fanbois over at UKTS despite the so called "new" moderation regime.

I vote the thread stays open - it's a breath of fresh air.

What the hell is this all about.

Static stock supplied with a route, why not supply proper stock.

That can be used in consists and as statics.

Mike.

Just checked that out - have to agree what is the point? Given the 3D models have been created, far better to give someone a commission to animate them so they can be used properly.

Edit: I've just asked the question at UKTS. Start the countdown clock to me getting flamed or banned!

Mike.

The bit about the appearance of pointwork and the need for auto-pathfinding? I suspect more than a few TRS users would probably agree with that though.

I am a disgrace...
:o

I never really notice the pointwork anymore, the track quality itself is more important to me, Vern.

The pathing problem i fully agree with and is something that i feel Auran needs to rectify.

Rather than users having to rely on third party solutions.

I bet i am more of a disgrace than you. :hehe:
