Railworks 2 - Any good?

I've had every version of Trainz since 2002 right up to TS2010 and haven't seen any “great” improvement in graphics. As a matter of fact if you look real close it's amazing how little things have changed after all these years.
That would be because a 256x256 texture file from 2002 is still 256x256 in 2010.

Paul

Seriously?
Trainz, Trainz 2004, Trainz 2006, Trainz 2009, Trainz 2010...
Same content, most of it abismal, same poor graphics, same 'atmosphereless' 'gameplay', DIFFERENT MENUs.

I never suggested the Auran business model - which RSC seem to be trying to copy - was perfect and I have criticised it in the past, particularly when they want off down the Trainz Classics road a couple of years ago. In fact, come to think of it these themed standalone "experiece" (?) packs that RSC have announced sound suspiciously close to what Greg Lane proposed at one point.

TS2009 and TS2010 added a significant amount of content, okay some of it culled from the DLS but still a boon to have available in the default install. The ECML in TS2010 made that worth the re-purchase price alone.

In any event, RW2 was free this time round, not to say they won't charge next time.

Thanks Paul but I think the game engine issues with Trainz go way beyond just texture size.

Maybe so, but that is a different point, and something which RS/RW suffers from too.

I would recommend looking "real close" at some new assets, rather than the same old ones - you might even spot some improvements. Start with the SD40.

You might not define it as a "great" improvement - but improvements most definitely have been made.

''Same content''

- Yes, the amount of items in the surveyor has only been multiplied 20 times. I am very dissatisfied. Not only to speak about the hundreds of thousands of items that you can download for FREE.

''Same poor graphics''

Grpahics have greatly improved. But ofcourse you never played any of these games, so how can you know?

''Atmosphereless gameplay''

What i call atmosphereless gameplay is running down a straight 4-track rail, passing a red without warning and running into a train shortly after. Now restart and drive the line for another 30 minutes to where you were when that happened, and let's hope that the AI doesn't fail again.

i find Railworks has better detail on there locomotives than trainz.

I have to argue that point, in Trainz, we have some pretty tallented creators as well and those don't charge either.

Another thing to think about, a Class 302 in Trainz, is free. A Class 302 in Railworks last I heard, costs you, but I have pretty much lost contact with that other project. (Because, the mesh is essentially mine and yes, the author did get permission to convert my mesh from Trainz to Railworks, yes, he did ask about the sale and I authorised it, I have given them the rights to do whatever he wants and thats freedom of speech for you. :) )

And you were one hell of a legend for doing that kind sir :)
Evan though money was payed for them to be added into RW mesh edits animated doors added new bogies and a whole load of other stuff was done i have now scrapped the projects due to a huge argument with the selfish big headed people who think there bigger then god moderators at UKTS. Evan though i may have some what asked for it but to be jumped on from a huge height just for getting a ban for posting LOL is a bit far fetched.

I for one am looking forward to the day of were and when trainz becomes bigger and better evan though evan i cant explain how things look so much better as in rolling stock with out having 10 univercity degrees to belt:hehe:

With the paywere in RW2 it is of the very highest of quality and the very best people in the business are makeing the money from it.
If thay have such skill then good luck to them :)
Evan Alan thompson as Snowsignal as the paywere creator is in on the business as of this content in the youtube link.

And the WCML with class 220 and pendolino here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yqYMyBrQjI

I some how wish that UKTS didnt overall have control that thay have to this day with Railworks RW2 and for some how wish thay died with the crappy death that MSTS had.

I myself wouldnt say that RW2 is any better then trainz as in this link here
http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=58786
You cant argue that the shots are right up there with what RW2 brings.
And shot from Nexusdj marky7890 and many more shots.

Rw2 has good things and so dose trainz as well as they both had bad things.
They both show a promising future to train sims as they are today.

Lol, i've been playing trainz since I came across it in about 2002, got TRS2004, got really addicted to it, ended up going through 2 copies of TRS due to excessive wear and tear on the disks, some of you may remember a post from years ago where I said my disk looked like it had been used as a coaster. I got 2006, found that was full of bugs, gave up with it. Passed on 2009, bought 2010:EE earlier this year and I can't say I was impressed at all.

So to say I haven't played ANY of these games is untrue, also, next to my name youll see i have 2004, 2006 and 2010 registered.

Both Trainz & RW2,One or the other?...The Choice is YOURS!!!

Hi All...
I Have followed the developement from when Auran released their first ever Package "Trainz Community Edition"...and it has come a long long way,to what you see now...Excellent Images and excellent Game Play...With RW2 which i have had from when it first was in developement,as RW1...the only things i found that were buggy,,,tended to stick a lot especially if the Route was overcasted with Plenty of buildings etc ...IE: In Built Up Areas...

RW2...i love playing as with it now on my Dual Core System it has no problems at all...better interface more realistic than RW1,with the added factor of the German Engines That Do the wheel spin...when setting off...LOVE IT!!!..

Don't know about other people's opinions but i am sticking with Trainz And RW2..Game play is different on both parts...Give the developers a chance on both Trainz and RW2...RW2,if ur in the UK or bought from RW1 Stage is a free upgrade...ok Auran Release patches and give Discounts but i ain't heard of anyone else giving a free major upgrade to their Train Sims only RW2...as far as i know, well worth the money...purchase a copy today...you won't regret it...

The only thing i don't like about RW is the STEAM you get it from...at least Auran's Is PURE STANDALONE SOFTWARE!!!!

Well I guess the file library there still has some value. Long diatribe posted by the site owner in the Admin forum about zero tolerance etc. and how that will be applied to everyone in future... It remains to be seen whether that means RSC and their associates will no longer be running the place, with the tacit support of the mods. My own policy for UKTS is now to post as little as possible in the RW sections and then only if directly related to some work I may have uploaded.

That and posting curious PMs just as people go on 'holiday' and deleting them before they return, leaving a curiosity-spiking 'This PM has been deleted before being read' in their inbox.

Curse you vern, I will forever be taunted by wondering what you had said... Although I can guess that it was probably similar to other PMs I got at around the same time

:hehe:

Does that apply to me as well, hahahahahahahahaha.

I must have had half a dozen usernames since i was banned for life or until i go to hell. :hehe:

I get bored with the stupidity of them all after a few weeks with each one and do something daft, to get "discovered".

Gives their tiny little minds something to be happy about.........losers. :D

Ts.com has become just as bad. I am now banned for 24hrs, because i sent 6 reports for "off topic" posts. Apparently the ban is for "harassing mods". :hehe: :hehe:

I was a lady once, or was it twice. :D

Oh yes RW2.............same as RW1 but with a "Toys R Us" HUD update.

As The Who used to sing......."meet the new boss......same as the old boss".

IKB.

It was indeed a message of support for your views in the infamous thread!

I didn't feel harassed, I was merely amused by the plethora of alerts in my email box, all from you that day. You'd be amazed at the number of fanboys who want you banned simply because you were banned before, I ignore those too. :p Most of them people on both websites just have SBS - Spoiled Brat Syndrome, life was too easy for them so they gotta invent imaginary conflicts. :hehe: You ain't the only one hit by a temp ban tho, Nels handed them out to quite a few after reading Matt's post at UKtrainsim and looking over the problems with his own Rail(don't)Works forums. I thought that one was right on target even tho a bunch of pompous polite pommie poufs are objecting to Matt's use of "fanboy" - what the hell else would you call a fanatic who badly needs therapy?

It is really strange, my theory is they handed out free copies of railsim and railworks in every mental hospital in the world, that's the only thing that would explain all the hysterical screaming hissy fits when anyone criticizes RW.

Jim we can only be ourselves mate, be honest and say it as we see it as individuals. ;)

I will never change, so i will just have to take the consequences. :D

Hey i got my copy of Railwank at the local mental institute. :hehe:

cheers,
Mike.

If i could get my hands on the GEML route being made for RW I would probably buy RW just for that...

Gah!

"Jim we can only be ourselves mate, be honest and say it as we see it as individuals."

I generally call 'em as I see 'em, don't really have any axe to grind - it's not all good but it's not all bad either, in my opinion all three games have things they do better than the other two. Overall FOR MY PURPOSES (many people aren't looking for the same things in a train simulator that I am, everybody is not me, if more people understood that basic fact of life there would be a lot less fights) Trainz has more of what I need.

"Hey i got my copy of Railwank at the local mental institute." :hehe:

As I suspected, there must be an evil plot by the drug companies to sell more Prozac, that would explain why the Don'tWorks developers keep breaking things that work, refusing to fix stuff that don't work, and introducing screwy fluff that has nothing to do with train simulation.

Reading this thread

That's only one question, do you wish to have pretty or smart women........

Not to me bro, i am on Cipralex ( escitalopram ) 20mg a day. :hehe:

cheers,
Mike.

Those were the days, at least I could VAGUELY focus on escitalopram... Unfortunately, it didn't do much for my problems, so here I am on 30mg of paroxetine, unable to focus, and utterly suicidal if I forget them for a day.

Back on topic I had a look at the Railworks site and I had to chuckle at their latest fantastic offering.........The Flying Scotsman! Wow.:hehe:
