Questions about the DLS in general and in combination with old versions of Trainz

I own legitimate copies of Trainz 2004, 2006 and Ultimate and I can no longer access the download station. Could someone please explain that to me why that is?

I also tried to send an email to Auran about it and that email address is not available anymore. Could someone shine a light on that for me?

When I am able to download a route, the system usually asks me to download a lot extra files to get them to work. Why is that?

Can I suggest that someone makes a website for Australian content only for all versions of Trainz?

TRS 2006 and the like haven't been supported for years. That's software progression for you. Mind it's not Auran/N3V that put those assets on the DLS, it's regular users like you and me.

To access the DLS in 06, and all versions below, you need to either buy a FTC (1 Year is the best buy, and sometimes they go on sale, and you can stockpile as many unactivated FCT's as you wish) ... or you must buy a higher version of Trainz, such as 09, 10, 12, or T:ANE. If TS12 becomes unsupported in September, you might have to buy T:ANE, and a FCT ... in order to download in TRS2006.

A route download is just the baseboards and terrain ... all the track, textures, trees, grass, buildings are usually not TRS2006 built-in assets, and are extra needed dependencies for the route to become complete.

Almost all assets downloaded are higher trainz-build than your TRS2006 version (2.5, or 2.6), and all the thousands of assets and dependencies config files must be meticulously backdated to your train-build numeral (lower trainz-build numerals need not be edited, ie: (2.4, 2.0, 1.3).

And after you edit all those assets config files trainz-build numeral, and all their hundreds of dependencies config file, to be your train-build or lower ... TRS2006 still will not see them until you delete assets.bku (in Cache folder), and delete assets.tdx (in TRS2006 folder) ... and send those 2 files to your PC recycling bin ... then restart the CM, and let it rebuild for at least 20 min, PC undisturbed, (go shovel snow, cut the weeds, or pick up doggie flops in the yard), while the TAD rebuilds, and replaces the missing assets.bku, and assets.tdx files.

Some assets are plain "Not Backdatable" ... as are 09, 10, 12, T:ANE routes, they will never work in TRS2006

The only reason to operate TRS2006 is if you have a inferior low end integrated graphics PC, or if you find the TRS2006 surveyor easier to operate.

To answer your questions:

1. The answer is that you have an unsupported version. This means you must either purchase and register a supported version or purchase and activate a First Class Ticket in order to use the Download Station (from memory TRS2006 has been unsupported for a few years).
2. If you need to contact N3V (Auran no longer exist) use the Helpdesk button at the top of the page.
3. That's what's known as dependencies - quite often it will not work or look as intended without these (it's kind of like a car where you need wheels, an engine, fuel of some sort etc for it to work as intended).
4. I'm not aware of any of those at the moment although it's likely to be a large undertaking for someone and there's also the issue of whether creators want their content on a third-party site.
