Proper Backup and moving to new Computer

Is there a procedure to insure that I get a proper backup of my game and the database, along with the ability to move it to a new Computer? I have a lot of additions, routes etc., that I want to be sure I can recover.

The best thing to do is just to copy the entire directory, program files and all, to an external drive, or a thumbdrive if you have one that's big enough. You can run Trainz from there if needed (although I recommend not, there's always the risk that can gank up your backup.) Copy it back to whatever destination and you're in business.
