Progress on the Uintah RW

Dan, I just cannot express how great this looks. I can't wait to see how you did distant mountains.

Phil
Thanks, I'd say I'll be finished in another two weeks, I have just uploaded an interim version as a backup, if anyone can run the route and inform me of any glitches before i send the final to the DLS I would be most pleased with you :)
You are going to need a fair bit of computing power to get the most out of this as it has a LOT of detail .
the switches should now all be fixed to make A1 work better , there is a new siding at mack as I found a reference to there being one added the 1930s. Most of the route vegetation has been polished up, especially from mp 9 onwards. New shearing shed at cowboy. Its greener than the older version, looking at videos and images in the summer months there can be quite a lot of green grass around , but it drys out a lot near Dragon .

Any faults ,report them here . Let me know if there are any new missing assets , I should have uploaded any new items of mine to the DLS but may have missed one or two.

Hi Dan. I thought I would try to do as you say and run the route from one end to the other. I started at the big loop at the east end, with the 2-8-2 and tender, and a small group of freight cars to pull behind with a caboose at the back. I just made it to the first small town, and for some reason got a derail at the start of the platform. Not sure, maybe a spline isn't quite connected? I will look at it closer in Surveyor tomorrow. Also, I was checking to see that the switches were all set to go ahead through town and out the other side. All looked good but I noticed going out the west side of town there is a double track for a short way. When the two tracks merge into one, I do not see any kind of switch nor any green-red direction indicator, so I cannot tell how it is set. I will find that out tomorrow as well, and then continue on running the route. In the image below you can see the yellow X's where the train collapsed in on itself as it reached the platform:
EDIT. The switches are set for me to leave town to the left. I need to check the route tomorrow and see if I should be going straight ahead, if only to check the tracks that way.

thanks for this, this main line track is a 10 mile loop designed to allow you to just drive A1 trains past mack. It hasn't been really properly set up, I did check the DRGW main line twice and replaced some switches,but i haven't run it recently, so obviously there are still issues, i have run this previously and there were no problems, although I may have changed the track bed again a month ago. i just checked that spot where it derailed and the track was doubled up under the existing track, I've had this happen several times ! I removed the offending track and thought I had fixed it, , just drove it and its derailed again, so i will investigate further. . i checked the rest of the main line and there there were two missing switches, either I missed them when i double checked the track, or they disappeared again.

Thanks. I could tell that east end was unfinished, so I was hoping I was not getting ahead of the game - as it were. I hope to get more time to explore tomorrow.

i just drove the yard section in game and where there were NO switches there are now TWO for each turnout ! back to fixing again !

Oops! I set back up just past the town and headed out. Great scenery plugging along, and I had just passed a ranch on the left and was making the right-hand curve when I got to some washes crossed by trestles. Hit a misalignment on the first trestle. Should be no big deal:
EDIT: And also, at the start of that next bridge in the shot below:
I also want to be clear that I am not running the version you just uploaded, but the one from February 12, so you may have fixed some things since then. I have now made it over several bridges successfully and am running along at the posted speed limit.

ah, well that puts it in a different perspective , I really would not bother to run it , download the new version , but I will check to see if any of the bridges are acting up, I've seen some very strange things happen since I had to merge the route, track doubled up under other track, it can't be seen until you move a spline point, switches disappearing etc.

Just wanted to note here that these switches are set incompatibly. Going to have to change one junction or the other to stay on mainline or to go in and come out again. These are only locked in the shot because I was too close, although once I backed up and changed the far switch, it did not lock until after I was past the first one:
EDIT: Ran into the same thing at junction 3799058. A small mining camp and loading tipple (Carbonera?) That junction is set to take you into the mine, the one on the other side (3799066) is set for the main line. Also, at the tipple itself, it is set to go to one of two tracks, but coming out of the tipple, it is set to the other track. ALSO, to skip ahead a bit, up on the pass siding at junctions 4502666 and 4502664. Maybe this is the plan?

I think this is just a floating artifact up in this draw. A few miles south of the yard where the track bends left to go to Swedar (just south of bridge #26B). Up a draw to the east of the track. Looks like a big square from a distance:

This is a shot of that yard where the track turns west to Swedar. Note at the bottom there does not appear to be a switch where it goes from one track to two. Also, in the upper right, the red dot is a junction that shows no direction. It does appear to have a switch, so not sure why. Oddly the last one to the right of that shows left, right, and up. Fortunately, up is red:
The missing switch switched me to the left at that first junction, so there is one switch set against me as I leave town in the upper left (by the red shed).

LOL! I think this is my bad! After leaving town and starting up the grade, I was just thinking of dropping speed when I got distracted checking a voice mail, and apparently, I ran smack into the back of another train. I was only running the 2-8-2 #40 and tender, no cars, so these are not mine! From this point maybe I will save up the screenshots so I can use fewer posts.

Can't get those darn engineers to pay attention to anything in front of them!

Yes, there is a train parked there in the route layer. But you know that now.
:-)

if you are still running the older version this is a largely a waste of time .
re your earlier post, the first bridge was ok, the second I got a derail, there seems to be no reason for this, track was correctly attached to bridge, i could move the bridge with track attached , although the fill embankment had risen again over the ties , which is an ongoing issue that I've never been able to fix, even though the embankments are locked any change in height near them sometimes can cause the fill to move. .
Anyway deleted bridge 2a and re attached it again and that seems to have fixed it ( for now ) . this is very annoying as I've driven this part of the route many times with no issues.
when i uploaded the version you using I only deleted engines that were not available on the dls, I place locos in various positions to use for checking or for screenshots, and as it was a WIP , I didnt bother to get rid of them;.

I've deleted almost every engine in the latest version thats on the dls.
Also the yellow cabooses that ben dorsey made are not prototypical , I made red versions of them as far I can tell the uintah never had light colored cabeese. no 3 was used from mack to Atchee and the smaller., lighter cabooses were used over baxter pass.

the switches at atchee have been fixed, one was utterly faulty for some reason , others had vanished or moved , this is probably due to merging as all were working originally as they were driven over many times when laid.

OMG did anyone get hurt, did you have to jump out of your Train on the Ravine, fall down the hill, This looks really bad, I hate to see what happens when Yard Master Gavel here's about this, lucky for you, it might not be for a few days.

I don't think the Pony express can ride that quick thru this Craggy terrain.:hehe:

Good luck and hopefully you don't fired.......! :confused:

Not wasting my time at all, but maybe yours. I am enjoying the heck out of the scenery. I made it up the side canyons to Trimble mine, more tomorrow. No other bad track so far, just every set of siding switches seems to be set inconsistently, with one set to the siding and the other set to the mainline. At the lower elevations, the desert scenery reminds me a lot of the desert and "Channeled Scablands" of eastern Washington state where I grew up. If those bluffs and cliffs were basalt I would be in heaven! And that pass is just the most outstanding scenery, I loved every mile! Looking forward to doing more. I am currently without an FCT and downloading Schwaninger Land, so when that is done, I will start downloading the new Uintah version. It will take a while. I may have to let the moths out of my wallet!

Glad its keeping you busy anyway. I've never been able to find a tool to change switches direction in game until now , but i found out how to do it in the online help just now, all will be the right direction in the final version ( i hope ) I'm continuing to find more faulty switches which didn't exist in previous versions,just found two in Dragon yard. I know they weren't faulty a month ago as i drove through the yard and posted screenshots . this probably happened when the game has crashed a few times recently when I've been in surveyor.
Its enough to drive you up the wall.

Dan,

Other than a minor niggle, see below, it is looking fantastic in TRS19 SP5.

One suggestion, regarding the dirt tracks roads:

<kuid:44878:114844> DG GF_Road_Dirt Track 3 grass edge
<kuid:44878:113444> DG GF_Road_Dirt Track
<kuid:44878:114845> DG GF_Road_Dirt Track 2 no grass edge
<kuid:44878:113441> DG GF_Road_Dirt01
<kuid:44878:114728> DG-dirty GF_Road_Dirt02
<kuid:44878:113443> DG-GF_Road_Dirt02

May be more however, they are showing shadows which put bluntly looks dreadful, this can easily be fixed by adding "does-cast-shadows 0" to the mesh table in the config and increasing the build to 4.5

example:

Code:
kind                                    "track"
istrack                                 0
isroad                                  1
carrate                                 0
asset-filename                          "DG GF_Road_Dirt Track'"
description "AN 8ft wide dirt track."
[COLOR=#ff0000]trainz-build                            4.5[/COLOR]
category-class                          "SR"

mesh-table
{
  track-lod0
  {
    mesh                                "gf_road_dirt track.im"
    [COLOR=#ff0000]does-cast-shadows                   0[/COLOR]
  }
}

and so on......

Needs the build increase as it doesn't work in versions below TANE.

Before:

After:

Something I did not notice because I have shadows turned off at this point. I should be done downloading Swaninger land today and will start downloading the new version. Then I get the pleasure of starting on the new version. Maybe I can post some eye-catching screenshots!
