Porting freeware content between platforms

Pikkabird is even harder to get a hold of but I'm sure I read a post the other day on one of the forums about which forum he hangs about on these days .

He's on UCF's Facebook friends list and I've messaged him via there to let him know.

Hi,

While I am totally against using any programs to capture other peoples meshes/models - I must say part of this discussion caught my attention as I have a need to capture ground out of Trainz...

I used to have a program by a Trainz user to capture piece of the ground and splines as a dxf file, but it did not work in newer Trainz, and reading this thread I now start dream about maybe a way to get what I need other ways.

Thanks guys for mention it, to bad Trainz it self don't support a way to get the ground, and center/pivot locations of any meshes/structures and the center lines of any splines of a given area in Trainz.
My dream would to have such a program, especially if it also could capture the painted ground - now, to go hunt on Google to see if this could be used. :)

My use is to custom build scenes to the ground, like tunnel portals, mining scenes and so on where the large grid of 10 meter for holes and 5 meter for the grid is still to large.
Other peoples meshes, no use, I make my own. :)

just still wish Trainz had a way to export the info in it self...

Best wishes all

Linda

Cheers , I've found some renders of the 92 posted on the Railworks depot Facebook page and the ETH cable on the front of the Railworks 92 bends in exactly the same places as the one on Dave's 92 . There's also a little box in the cab you can see through the drivers window , Once again exactly the same as Dave's . I've passed the renders on to Dave .
If it is his then I can't believe how these people are blatantly showing off these models and saying it's there own work !!

I'd read this thread before commenting any further on that...

I've decided to interrogate RSC about this and also put down my concerns and asked if it was true (its way too restrictive!). I've also seeked clarification, they have provided me with 2 replies. If anyone wants my commumications to them please message me and I'll forward the emails, mine tend to be far longer than RSCs ones, about 3 times longer. The first one was:
I would hesitate to believe all that you hear on the forums Russell

That I felt didn't relate ot my situation as I should hope that my content is my content and regardless of all the tools I used, is still my content and it doesn't matter what I do, right? Common law in theory, would tell me that the copyright is mine and so is the intellectual property rights. (Damm, should of used my "legal aid" if I am eligable for it, to see what the solicitors say, so there would be legal clarification!) Except, we all know that I wash my hands of my IP and copyrights so others can learn. How nice am I? NOT. All, I want to do, is get my name recongised as an author of content and get a job through head hunting that way, thats the theory anyway, which is another reason why I hate the new EULA soo much.. When I mentioned a lot of this in another email and explained that as those who noticed, seems to relate only to using RSC work as a basis, then you get where I am comming from on this, so I fired off another email with YET MORE QUESTIONS. The answer?

Many thanks for your reply.
We're collating the feedback relating to the EULA and are aiming to have an internal discussion on this on Monday or Tuesday so that we can provide further clarity on this.
If reading between the lines is true and I am only second guessing so don't take my word as true, even they don't have a clue what the new EULA means and what situation it would apply to. Or they realised that they were being far too restrictive and therefore back down, what got me thinking, how would their EULA stand up in court anyway? It gets you thinking as I wonder what Microsofts EULA for Visual Studio says.
The other question is, even if they bolderdash and ignore us, it opens up another can of worms, I've already exported a locomotive and the 502 into railworks with the 2012's tools and both are also in Trainz, although I've not released either yet formally for both, where does that leave me with the 2013 tools?

I hate to put it bluntly, but:
ITS A FRIGGIN NIGHTMARE!

Dave has been in touch and he's 99.9% sure that its his class 92 that's been cloned .
He's started to lean on the owner of the Railworks depot facebook page and as if by magic the class 92 renders that where on there yesterday have disappeared !!
If that isn't an admission of guilt then I dont know what is ?!
I know for sure that I would go to great lengths to prove my innocence if I was accused of the same thing and that I knew that the content in question was built by me , So the renders would remain in place .

I think some comments about the origins of the 91 + Mk4's need posting on there as well ..... ;)

@WEN . I'd suggest trying to find out if the origins of your 141 clone in railworks can be traced back to this Railworks depot site http://www.railworksdepot.co.uk/ as that seems to be the main distribution point for cloned trainz content ?

Would it be safe to assume that the owner of Railworks Depot and the owner of the now defunct Freeworks page are one and the same?

The chap who claims to have made the 92 is named finchy (proper name Dave and no it's not me !!) and he posted this on their forum about a month ago :
"As People may be aware of the recent events surrounding some of my projects, i have come to a decision to step down Modelling for Railworks ."

Seems he's already been caught out with something else ?

It might also be worth emailing TfL about their logo - the LT roundel is copyrighted and I'll put money on them not having requested permission..!

Probably best to leave that as leverage should they not remove the content . Dave has said that the 92 has now been removed (or hidden) but he's keeping an eye on things to see if it reappears .
I've had a look at whats available from this finchy chap and I've noticed that he was the producer of the Railworks blue Pullman , Now I actually have this as i acquired it months ago from another site . I'm going to check it as I have some suspicions now on it's origins !?
