Planet Auran Connection

I’ve found that disconnecting from the internet provides a noticeable performance improvement when driving some of the more detailed routes. The only problem is that I often forget to reconnect before opening CM. Is there a way to make CM re-try the connection without exiting the program and then reloading it? I’m running both TS2010 and TS12.

Yes - if you go into the Settings box (in CM),click the Internet tab, then click Save, it should re-try the connection.

TADDaemon is the one that normally checks that. It checks every 2 minutes.

EDIT: Have you tried clicking the red bar, then clicking Save?

Yes, to clicking the red bar and then save. Either way, the red bar goes away but nothing else changes. I didn't time it so maybe I haven't been waiting long enough. I'll give that a shot. Thanks again.

Hi,

On a similar note, I find that disabling the virus checker (in my case Kapersky) has a very noticeable affect on the speed of my computer, not just the internet connection, but also running internal programmes such as trainz and Gmax.

Is that normal?

Cheers, John

Yes, that's normal. Anti-virus and networking use so many resources that many if not most serious gamers run without anti-virus, firewalls, and usually without a network connection. You'd be pretty surprised how well even a low-end machine runs without all that stuff.

Shane - Nope, no cigar. I gave it a good ten minutes (which is twice as long as it takes to exit and go back in) and CM didn’t connect in either version. It’s not that big a deal. Maybe eventually I’ll start remembering to reconnect before I go into CM. Thanks.

John - I don't have any experience with Kaspersky, but it is very normal for Norton and, to a lesser degree, McAfee. If there is a way to disable on-access scanning, you might try that. That might be easier (and safer) than disabling your av software completely and give you a similar performance boost.

On the other side of the network issue, I'd like to disable network access within Trainz without having to worry about cable connections, etc. Why don't we have that capability, which would be really useful. There are times, like when I'm using my laptop, where I don't have a network enabled. With TADDaemon retrying every 2 minutes, this is an extra drain on the already strained resources we need for the program to operate efficiently.

Re: the A/V program. I have found that if I disable automatic scanning, this helps substantially because the A/V program is not reading and checking each and every asset that is opened and closed while Trainz is in operation.

John

Can't you tell the A/V not to worry about the Trainz folder?

In my particular case, no. I wish it was that simple. But there are many others such as TrendMicros PcCillin products that allow ignoring of folders.

It is still too bad we can't just disable the network searching though. That would be too easy, wouldn't it.
