I've been considering canceling my renewal as well. I too used to have some real enthusiasm for Trainz and used the program in its various iterations for well over 20 years. In that time, I've seen both good and bad things happen, took the ride up and down and then we've gotten here. The big rush with the last few service packs, community be damned, is what has gotten us here along with a smaller number of public testers. Making beta testing an exclusive thing to Plus users isn't the way to go. There needs to be a refocus on the actual beta-testing process, the one that costs more and takes more time to ensure that the product is solid.
The big rush is as always to push out new features and supersedes fixes to underlying issues. They'll fix a few things on the top and a few that pertain to the new patch, but I have yet to see fixes put in for iPortals, for instance, or buttoning down Surveyor 2.0 to bring it beyond the beta stage it's still in.
"We'll fix it later" has been the famous line here for a very long time. I've said this before. This reminds me of an old house in bad need of a new roof and plumbing but the owner repaints the parlor and puts in a swimming pool instead.
Having said this, we don't know what's going on inside N3V's virtual walls. There could be some administrative and corporate financial pressures placed on the company we're not aware of, or who knows what's driving the quick pace to put out new products. We've seen this before not only with T: ANE but also with other companies that are put under pressure to come out with new product and improvements come hell or high water.
Yes, I know that new versions and widgets are something to generate sales but if the underlying product falls apart or appears unfinished, then what good is it to have new features?
