Obsolete! Not for me

I do not understand the Auran mentality of getting rid of older stuff by classing it as obsolete! There are many who want to re create the golden days of steam, especially in the UK! Why is Auran trying to snuff out the reality of history?

The stuff that has been obsolete is stuff that's on the DLS that your install is referencing. If you don't want to update your currently installed assets, then don't download the new ones which were probably repaired or updated to TS12 version anyway and causing this message.

One man's obsolete, is another man's wishes John, As a normal guy I have to take things at face value! I do not have the insider information that you do?

Obsolete kuids are the built in ones that cant be deleted or replaced with a newer kuid version. All downloaded content will automatically up date the older downloaded asset.

Go mad and get TS12, you should have an email somewhere from N3V offering it for $12 or so. What is happening is the older assets that were built for TRS2004 weren't error checked as thoroughly as they are today. So gradually over time they have been updated with new versions that have fewer errors. Sometimes the updates perform little better. What you see tagged as obsolete just means there is a later version available on the DLS. UK assets in particular Bob Sanders has been busy reskinning mainly my meshes and the latest ones have scenery versions as well as lod on the moving ones. This means you should get slightly better frame rates as well.

what part of 'obsolete' don't you understand........means you are using old versions of content. pretty easy to work out.

Obsolete

Just because something is obsolete don't mean you don't have it, you still have it just it been updated.
Without updating them they won't work in 09-10 & 12, this is called progress.
Most obsoleted assets can be deleted so you will see the new updated ones.

Oh yes buddy, most of them are tagged as obsolete!

Zapata935, please take a deep breath and relax.

If you have an item in CM/CMP that is showing as "Obsolete", it means that you have already downloaded and installed the EXACT same asset, with a higher "Build number".
--Which in-turn means; you STILL have it. (If you can not see the asset in surveyor, the asset may be "faulty", at which point you can repair it, or delete the newer-faulty asset...you will still have the old "outdated" asset, and it should work just fine, so long as it did before.

Assets marked "Out of Date" are assets on your system which have a newer version of the EXACT same on the DLS, if you wish to update it.

Assets marked as "Obsolete" are assets on your system that have ALREADY been updated on YOUR system (DLS update already installed).
--Right-click, then click "view asset versions"; will show you which versions are available AND on your system all together.

Some will work without updating not all updates remove show stopping errors.

That’s a bit harsh, given the amount of ambiguity there is throughout Trainz.

It’s probably best to encourage questions rather than stifle them. All IMHO, of course.

“Username”, is another area for confusion. On the DLS, for Planet Auran, and for the Forum login, it means the member’s name. In a config.txt file it means the name of the asset. Confusing, or what!

And some of us are still having trouble working out the difference between steam and Steam.

Whilst I think about it much of the updated stuff runs better in TRS2004 and TRS2006 as well by the way, although you may need to change the version number. The errors weren't flagged but still were present and could mean the asset used more resources than it need to.

I see you don't fully understand obsolete.

Obsolete means that you have a newer version of that asset already installed. If you remove that newer version, it will become an Out of Date asset (if the asset is on the Download Station), which means that the asset has an updated version available, or it will have the standard Installed icon (the laptop one) if it's off a third-party site.
