How to not waste money repurchasing TRS22 DLC?

I recently decided to purchase the TRS22 Platinum Steam version of Trainz. Prior to this I have owned several versions of Trainz up to and including the TRS 2019 Platinum. After installing TRS22 I noticed that most (or all?) of my older Trainz version content was available in Content Store. I read somewhere that although I can install it into my Steam TRS22 installation it may not work properly. So I figured I should re-purchase the TRS22 Steam version of any DLC I want to play in TRS22. When I was playing the non-Steam version of TRS19, I purchased TRS19-Midwestern Branch. This appeared in Content Store as "TRS19 - Midwestern Branch". So now having purchased TRS22 Trainz from Steam, I found the same DLC named "Trainz 2022 DLC - Midwestern Branch" and purchased it (and by the way Steam also sells "Trainz 2019 DLC - Midwestern Branch"). The problem however is when I look in Content Store or in the TRS "More Content" filtering on content I own, I only see the TRS19 version of Midwestern Branch listed! My assumption is that the TRS22 DLC was identical to the TRS19 DLC version I had already owned. Is this correct? Did I waste my money? How can I avoid this in the future. Here are other DLC I already owned where I was thinking of re-purchasing the TRS22 version:
  1. Legacy of the Burlington Northern II
  2. Fall Harvest Nebraska
  3. Mojave Subdivision
  4. Canadian Rocky Mountains - Golden, BC
  5. Canadian Rocky Mountains - Columbia River Basin
  6. Milwaukee Road - Avery Drexel

While I'm not familiar with the Steam version of Trainz, when I've upgraded the N3V direct version, any DLC I owned purchased previously was available for installation in TRS22 without needing to purchase the content again. Hopefully for your sake, this applies to the Steam version as well.

Thanks JCitron that is good to know. I think the way Trainz DLC is listed in Steam is misleading. As I mentioned in my OP Steam lists the TRS19 and TRS22 Midwestern Branch DLC as two separate products implying that the content is different between the two packages - here are the names assigned to the DLC in Steam:
  • Trainz 2019 DLC - Midwestern Branch
  • Trainz 2022 DLC - Midwestern Branch
I just did a search on the N3V Trainz Store and only 1 DLC is listed:
  • "TRS19 - Midwestern Branch"
The Trainz Store page states that the DLC is compatible with both TRS19 and TRS22.

So again Steam is misleading since I was thinking I was purchasing an newer version updated for TRS22

Note: If you already own this DLC pack, you will receive this update automatically.

I’m pretty sure you can send a message to the helpdesk and they can reallocate that DLC to the version of the game provided you’re using the same account.

Buying on steam is something I’d never do. Too many issues with service packs and DLCs for me.

Hi Stagecoach and H222. I am not sure what you guys are saying - the point is I purchased the DLC on Steam for no reason since I already owned the TRS19 version which apparently identical to the TRS22 version I purchased. I haven't actually installed and tried the DLC yet, however the Steam page says it works with TRS22.

I will be much more careful before re-purchasing any of the 6 other DLC I mentioned earlier if the non-Steam versions I already have work fine in TRS22.

That's something that needs to be rectified on Steam if you are allowed to repurchase the same DLC again even though it's listed for a different version. Purchasing directly from N3V, this has never been an issue. You may want to mention this with the helpdesk and may be get a refund from Steam if it hasn't been more than 30-days.

OK great thanks all for your comments. By the way I didn't want to move to Steam either but did it for getting cheaper prices for the base game and DLC. For example I purchased TRS22 PE last July for only $16 US when it was on sale. See this thread for some questions I had before moving to Steam if you are interested. So far the Steam system seems to work fine, other than the relatively minor issue I reported in this forum posting.
