NYCTA! pics!

Ok Green that sounds like a plan to me. And I guess that you can always just edit the script if you want to put in fictional bullets, something similar to what they did with the R46 for OpenBVE. Good luck on the project man.

You won't even have to go through and edit a script! Just pop open the texture library, upload your pictures, assign appropriate .texture files and add the lines to the config! I'm running into some problems with the dual script currently--so, bear with me folks!

Are you going to add your own textures to the object? Like how magicland made the route textures for his trains?

Yes, that's the plan. There will be two versions of the platform sign:

Version 1- A row of 10 hanging signs that are height-changeable (double the amount of Magicland's). These ones will be texture-replacement only, so the texture library will include various signs similar to my signature, pre-made for all parts of the subway system. I'm still drafting a naming system to make things easier for you guys, as one route (like the 1 train) can have several signs along its route, and a longer route like the E and F has tons more. To add your own, simply edit or create a new picture object, insert into the library, create a .texture.txt file, and add appropriate lines to the library's config. This is for those who are strictly prototypical.

Version 2- This is for those of you (and myself personally) who want to be in control of what your route bullet(s) is/are and want to be able to edit the route information. The route bullets will be editable with a texture library (again you can add your own, following the same steps for adding textures in version 1); the lines of text will be an editable script--25 characters per line max. These options also will be accessed through the properties tab. The difference is that to cut down on the number of attachment points used, this will be a SINGLE HANGING SIGN So, if you guys want to place multiples, you'll have to do so one by one and edit them. It was a necessary trade-off to 50 or so attachment points and I couldn't work around it. Those ones might be sparsely placed on your platforms. Also, there'll be four types of the version 2 sign--one each for 1, 2, 3 and 4 route bullets showing up, which is self-explanatory.

The texture library for Version 2 is completed, since it was the easiest. The texture library for version 1 isn't started yet; I haven't been in NYC for seven years, so I appeal to all my Trainzers on Auran AND NYCTF (Strain should be updating you gents over that way) to take pictures or PM me descriptions of what the signs say so I can keep it accurate. I'll post a list breaking down the areas on the system where route signs change, so you all can help out. I will NOT give out my email over a public thread, so those of you who have AIM, get my s/n from my old NYCTF profile, and my Auran profile. By the way, to kill any speculation (yes I read the NYCTF trainz threads daily), my log-in information has NOT been resolved yet. We're running into a unique problem that Harry, Cait Sith and myself cannot figure out. So until then, I leave it to B and Strain to update you all.

I look forward to getting lots of messages/PMs/emails/IMs about the signs. If you don't have AIM---well then get it! It takes two minutes to make an account and is the QUICKEST and BEST way to get a hold of me, since I also have a full-time job.

I need help with creating new route textures for Magicland's subway cars for trainz 12. Acelejalde's route textures for Magicland's Trains don't work on trainz 12. So either he can change that or someone can help me create my own

Call for help with getting textures for NYCTA Overhead Signs

Hey All,

As you know, I need your guys' help with getting all of the necessary photos to make the texture library for the overhead destination signs. Below is a list I've complied, breaking up the entire system into sections. Each section is denotes where the platform signs are the same; as you move to different sections, the readings will change. The ones that ARE BOLDED are ones that I have not been able to get yet, so we still need A LOT of work. If you'd like to contribute, please look at the list below, and get pics that you're able to get. Please do not go out of your way to get the signs if you don't feel like it This isn't mandatory! So, if you live in Howard Beach, I am not asking you to go to Harlem to collect a few pics. Do what's closest to you. However, if you want to make those long trips as a railfan, be my guest. Please upload the photos to your photobucket or any other picture site, and send the link to me via PM so I can download it. Thanks again for all your help. Any questions or clarifications can be posted in this thread and I will do my best to answer quickly!

Here are examples of what I'm looking for:

And now for the list

NYCTA station platform sign listing, broken up into sections. IRT DIVISION A
11/12/12 A.C. Elejalde

Don't forget to get each platform sign for the section. You only need to get one sign in a specific section,
so for example if the section is Canal St to Times Sq, you only need to stop at one station in that section
and grab the signs for all the platforms.

NOTE: Please get the signs at ALL terminal stations as well. For the sections that
include terminal stations (i.e. 242 St-96 St), you'll get the signs for the section,
and the terminal signs as well.

Where certain lines share a route (the 2/3 in Brooklyn & Harlem, or the M/R on Queens Blvd),
you don't need to take second set of pics--you can check those routes off when that section
is accounted for.

WHOA!!

that's a LONG line of requests of making ALL THAT. But I can be your service of making additional Station textures. I may not have been (or lived) in New York City, BUT i make good quality textures for the NYCTA Stations (as well as the DestSign for the trains as well). I've looked at the list and what does the BOLD ones mean? like they are CRITICALLY needed or completed or something. Again I can do the Signs for you, BUT I can only do a few at a time (if it's the OK for you). I think I can start off with the Line 7 (42nd St - Flushing) or the Franklin Av. Shuttle. Then If i'm getting good at this, then I'll start with the other line (if its a possibility).

Also (my apologies if off-topic), is it possible to go on a NYCTA Train Station like this (in real-time)? I mean, because some (or even almost a lot of the stations except Elevated stations) are pretty ether flooded or damaged still weeks after the aftermath of the Storm of Sandy. Just for a thought though.

And great (and epic) work of the NYCTA Subway Construction SuperPack. Can't wait for the release.

Hope you are well, acelejalde.

I've edited the post to avoid confusion guys, so go back and check it out. The ones that are BOLDED are signs that we have not been able to collect yet. @Mikey & Scott, sorry for the confusion!

Most of the subway is back online. Stations that are currently down due to Sandy (At the time of this post) are:

South Ferry - (1)

City Hall - (R)
Cortlandt St - (R)
Rector St - (R)
Whitehall St - (R)

Broad Channel - (A)
Far Rockaway - (A)

Adding some terminal pieces to the subway set...

Enjoy the WIP eye-candy gentlemen....

Still to be done:

2T Island Terminal
3T Island Terminal (Main St
75px-NYCS-bull-trans-7_svg.png
75px-NYCS-bull-trans-7d_svg.png
)
4T Island Terminal (IRT Atlantic/Penn Sta)
4T Island Terminal (normal 2 island layout)

The last two are inspired by Magicland's original SCS; he had a 4T terminal like Atlantic Av on the IRT. I figured that even though the 1T, 2T Island, and 4T's don't exist in the subway, they'll be wonderful additions for those doing fictional routes. For 6T terminals, you'll have to use various subway pieces that I've released and/or kitbash from built-in items and those found on the DLS.

Enjoy!

P.S. In anticipation to this question: Yes, I will try my best to have those exit signs editable for multiple lines of text, which is why they're currently blank.

I couldn't fall asleep tonight without handing out MORE gifts, now could I???

Only one not included is the 1T because I'm tired, lol. You'll get it tomorrow gents!

Enjoy!

P.S. Due to attachment point problems and the general f**kery of 3DS max, the 3T splines/ends/terminal will only have the outer two tracks with attachment points. You'll have to place the middle track manually because the attachment points for the object-spline connector and the track itself are too close together to fix, and if I shifted the entire 3T model, I'd have to shift over the ENTIRE tunnel and station set, which is too much work.

P.P.S. I know the LCD on the R32-C sucks guys--still working on those,

They come in the same variations, just two different ballast colors.

And a small update for you guys project wise--I am rebuilding the Brighton-line stations that I was working on previously. The Prospect Park, Church, Cortelyou & Newkirk Plaza stations will stay the same because they employed the current "start object-spline-end object" building scheme we're currently using for the subway kit. However, the local stations south of there (Avs H, J, M, & Neck Rd), and express stations (Kings Hwy, Sheepshead Bay, Brighton Beach) will need their stations rebuilt to match the standards of the others. The Southern BMT is still several months away, but I'm currently cleaning house on obsolete items on my computer [not throwing them away, simply quarantining them to prevent mix-ups] and wherever I can reconstruct old items to fit current standards, I will. The signals & signs will be getting a modest makeover to fit these new tunnels! Lots of work before the Thanksgiving holidays, so hopefully something can be released to you all before next Friday so you can enjoy the long weekend a little more!

Utter brilliance. This is such an impressive New York City Subway project. Everytime I look at this thread I see something newer and better! You always confound me with your and Bstyles' sheer ability to continue to develop this project.
Keep up the prodigious work!
Eric :)
