Northeast Corridor Newport News, VA to Boston-South Station, MA (1024x 768 pixels)

Fantastic work thus far,I'm looking forward to this route when it is complete but in the meantime, keep up the good work!

Thanks guys! I just rode the NEC yesterday through the Snowstorm so I got some more riding time to help enhance the feel of my route.

hey strench I been away from trainz for a while I have experienced the msts version of the nec called the prr route they an older version of the nec from the prr days but they added some up to date fetures to it as well. its pretty nice but they like most route builders didnot pay much attention to the stations. the platforms in penn station baltimore and philly donot meet level with the train wich i feel is a key feature in the nec that is why the trains dont have to use the stairs. I know it is small but will your platforms meet level with the trains? something like that will bring me back to trainz lol. btw the route looks awsome!!!

I thought the PRR route was supposed to be on the proposed MSTS2 (that was never released). Are you saying that you have the PRR route, Harrisburg to Altoona and the Horseshoe Curve ?
this is a 3rd party route for msts vs1 it was released acouple months ago they basicaly didit because there would be no msts 2 it is very impresive although no way near the quality that strenches route is gonna be.

I watched videos taken from that route and the scenery is not prototypical. It looks like a decent driving time but like there was big smokestacked factories in NE D.C. and the Metro was electrified with catenary and it just didn't seem right. And yes my platforms meet car door level and they are the proto ones on the NEC:

nec

you are officially the man!!!!!!!! Im Glad that to hear see about the detication and hard work you are putting on this route,do you really plan to push this route as far north as boston and as far south as new port news? if so that is quite impressive and must be a record breaker as far as track milege!!ps Im coming back to trains for those prototipical stations lol

Davis, don't ever let the incorrect details stop you from progressing on this route. You did great thus far, but may I suggest fixing the slope on the bridge behind the platform shot? The side of the bridge's slope doesn't look right, I always get frustrated while leveling terrain on 5M and that happens. I would mark half the height at the next edge so the bridge's side can be properly graded. Keep up the great work!

MSTS Never look to msts for detail except in locomitive and rolling stock (even has the maryland area rail locos EMD gp39)

Yeah the 5m grid can be your best friend or your worse enemy. When using the "Raise Terrain Height to Spline Height" function it drops off drastically and lets you sometimes see under the roads on the 4 Laners.

In regards to that specifc location it is pretty bad. In real life the slope actually is very steep due to the fact that they cut out room for a parking lot that pushes up right next to it. But even here I can even it out. Here is a picture as it stands now, I will put it on my list of things to touch up:

Oh, and this is what I have been up to yesterday and today in rehards to the route:

*BTW All of this work is on the part of the NEC between Landover Interlocking and CP Avenue which is only 2 tracks. All of the following shots are in the nation's capital!

Here we have some work on the bridge over the Anacostia River:
strench707_20091225_0005.jpg

An Arby's near the tracks on the intersection of Bladensburg Rd NE and New York Avenue NE (Rt. 50 <-- goes to my town of Annapolis which is awesome) :
strench707_20091225_0004.jpg

There are tons of abandoned industrial tracks (on both sides of the main). Here we have an old metal structure that used to serve the Ind. Track some purpose but is now defunct:
strench707_20091225_0003.jpg

Further indicating that these tracks will not be used for a long time is when they repaved V Street NE they buried the rails deep in asphalt:
strench707_20091225_0002.jpg

Old platform used for loading up boxcars at Union Clay Products (now abandoned), you can see some of their tracks protruding through the spreading grass:
strench707_20091225_0001.jpg

A crappy shot because its in surveyor and my drawdistance is set to the bare minimum but still worth sharing I guess. Looking SB towards Union Station next to more of ex-Union Clay Products rails:

That's all for now folks and have Happy Holidays everyone!

Hey davis maybe this route will give content creators the motivation to creat more amtrak for nec and silver service!!!!!

More NE D.C. Shots.....

Here are some more of a SB Northeast Regional barreling towards WUS towards the end of its run.

Going under the New York Ave. NE/Rt. 50 Bridge:

Passing MP 133. The speed limit for Southbounds drops from 125mph to 95mph and vice versa for NB's:
strench707_20091231_0050.jpg

Passing buy the always delicous Arby's our SB Regional crosses over Bladensburg Rd. NE:
strench707_20091231_0051.jpg

Scenery in these next two shots is far from complete so be advised these are just little updates:

Now we are passing over Montana Ave. NE and by one of many D.C.'s interspersed school bus and district vehicle centers:
strench707_20091231_0052.jpg

Our last shot: As we pass by a hotel the engineer receives an APPROACH MEDIUM signal indication from the 1338-9 series block station (the last one before CP Avenue) :

That's all for now folks have a safe and happy New Year and I hope to make much progress in 2010!
