New UK user needs help

Maybe easier to pick "Download Station" in Content Manager instead of custom and just get a list of everything there, then you can sort by Author Username name or KUID (Asset ID) by clicking on the top of each column. Either way, when you see an asset you want, just right-click it and select "Download". As in most Windows apps, you can Shift-click to select a range of assets, or CTRL-click to select individual assets.

Thanks John. I have managed to download the Wescott Town route that innis suggested I have started to try and download the Midshire content but no joy so far.
craigdon
EDIT Well I finally manged to download both routes but I can't find them anywhere ??

Hi craigdon.

If you open Content Manager, on the default screen the filter should read 'installed' as per the image below. If you enter Midshire or Wescott as your search terms, that should bring up the routes if they've downloaded correctly. If they're showing in red, there are missing assets belonging to the route. This doesn't necessarily mean they won't work but if it is, they won't show in your route list. Right click on the route name and select 'List dependencies' from the dropdown list. You can check here if anything is missing and/or broken.

I have carried out those instructions and find this
When I open Trainz2019, Manage Content and the default filter says "Installed", I enter Westcott Town and nothing shows. When I enter Midshire it shows "Midshire and Rosworth Valley Lines, Installed from DLS. Missing dependencies, kuid2:298788:102630:1 all in red, and "Midshire and Rosworth Valley Lines-Default , Installed from DLS. Missing dependencies, KUID 298788:102631. When I select "List Dependencies" in KUID2:298788:102630 I can see nothing in red or anything that shows as being odd. When I "Select Dependencies" in KUID298788:102631 the it shows "Midshire and Rosworth Valley Lines. Installed from DLS. Missing dependencies. kuid2:298788:102630:1"
So I can presume I have not downloaded Westcott Town but the 2 assets I have downloaded may run ??
craigdon
EDIT I have been on this computer today for a total of 6 hours and have achieved 2 downloads of routes and the 1 download I wanted. Westcott Town, is still somewhere, I don't know where but certainly not here. Maybe this simulator is not for me after all.

Check your spelling on Wescott craigdon. If you've entered a t after the s, it won't show. Content Manager won't display anything if there's a mistake.

As for kuid:298788:102931, it's the default session for Midshire. Just check you aren't putting in any spaces or missing a colon when you search it. I've just checked myself and it displays correctly. You should have two assets for Rosworth, the route itself and the default session. If there's nothing red, then it should display. Once you open Trainz, click on Driver/Surveyor, then in the 'source' dropdown menu, select 'Installed'. You should then see everything you've downloaded in the scroll bar along the bottom of the screen. If you want to drive either of these routes, you'll need to use Surveyor to first to add rolling stock to the routes, save them, then drive.

Hopefully I can help you out here. Don't lose heart as I, and most of the people on this forum, know that Trainz can be frustrating at times.

Can I say a BIG Thank You to John Whelan and Innis for the help they have given over the past couple of days.
I went to Trainz2019 this morning and downloaded/installed Wescott Town. It said at the end in the box 3 errors and 4 warnings, when I check the assets I find 4 listed as "unknown asset"
KUID2:84609:28430:1
KUID298788:102880
KUID2:328583:100426:1
KUID2:64038:39081:2
These are all I can find at the moment.
AGAIN I MAY SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO THESE 2 MEMBERS FOR ALL THEIR HELP.
I have been to Driver/Surveyor and both routes are listed.
@Innis, how do I add rolling stock to a route ??
Thanks again for all this great help.
craigdon
EDIT I forgot to say that the download/install went without a hitch and was very quick indeed. I am very pleased with that.

Not a problem at all craigdon. That's what the forum's for.

If you go to 'edit route' in surveyor, then in the train tab to the right, select any rolling stock you may wish to add. There isn't much on a fresh install so you may have to open Content Manager (CM) and search for locos, carriages, etc. Most of the BR modernisation locos are there, Mk1, Mk2, Mk3s, and some first generation DMUs. There's also more modern stuff too. Just select what you want and download it. The only issue you may encounter is sometimes a loco or carriage won't automatically download one of its dependencies such as a bogie, or brake pipe, etc. If that's the case, right click on the downloaded asset, select List Dependencies, and you should get a new CM window open with the missing dependencies in it. Download these and you should be good to go.

Once you've placed your rolling stock, save the session and switch to driver. Fingers crossed you can jump aboard and get going.

Cheers,
Innis

I would like to make up a train with a DMU I think. Just a little 3 or 4 coaches with an engine at each end. Can I find any information on how to do this anywhere. I would also like to make up a little goods train with an engine, half a dozen pieces of rolling stock and a brake van (if they still use them). Where can I pick up this info as I don't like to keep annoying the good people on this forum

Thanks for the info. I will study it later when I have rested. (It's been a long day

KUID:298788:102880 is just a platform sign and won't affect route at all. It may be a sign I used and replaced with an updated version.

Craigdon, open CM then enter class 105, class 108, or class 116 in the search box if you want an older DMU. Just make sure the filter shows 'Download Station'. There will be a few livery variations so just select what you fancy. If you let me know what sort of goods train you're after, I can give you a hand with that. Are you wanting to run modern era trains or are you thinking steam?

Fear not, you're certainly not annoying me. I've asked more than my share of questions here over the years.

You need to play to get a feel for things. I suggest Middleton with canal and just run the session to get a feel for what it can do. It has a number of industries and loads that get loaded and unloaded including passengers. Don't worry about how realistic the wagons and carriages are. Those can be subbed. After that go to edit session and add things the small circle at the bottom for trains or F7. Save the session under a new name. Then run it. Look for 3 dots on the right. The lowest one will show a corporal's stripe. Click on it and it will allow you to set the AI to drive, load etc.

@ Innis, I am thinking of very simple diesel units maybe a couple of coaches just fo effect, and a simple little goods consist. I have been looking at the Help pages for Surveyor and have taken a few notes but I think I will need to run The Help pages on my standby computer as a constant reference point. I will study the Help files for a bit but I will certainly be back with more questions.

@John Whelan, You say, "You need to play to get a feel for things. I suggest Middleton with canal and just run the session to get a feel for what it can do. I will have a look and let you know what happens.

What John has suggested is actually quite a good idea. I can't help you with routes with sessions as I don't really do any driving (Duchy Days seems to ring a bell though, set in the Western region I think) but if you do find one, mess about with it to find your way around. If you want to try editing Wescott, feel free to do so but make sure you save any alterations as a new route and session or you'll overwrite the original.

The following could make a good start for rolling stock.

Your diesel unit

Thanks again John. I have downloaded Middleton and it installed as Middle Vales. I have tried a couple of times to run but I have had a rotten day with interruptions. I was quite surprised at first when the little loco in the foreground took off and started doing it's own thing. Very nice indeed That AI can drive a lot better than I can.:D The furthest I have got so far is a halt at the first signal to allow the Duchess train to leave from the station. I seem to sit there for a long time waiting and when the Duchess passes I seem to wait another long time without anything happening. Hopefully I can get a bit further in the morning when I get some more time. Thanks again for this suggestion.
"You need to play to get a feel for things" seems like sound advice but I am afraid I may break something and make the programme unplayable. Is it OK to just bash on and when things awry just leve the game WITHOUT saving. I just need to save if I make changes/add things that I want to keep, and they saved under a new name??
Anyway Thanks again and I look forward to a fruitful session in the morning.

Thanks again Innis, I have a note of this list and will get them downloaded. I will try and do something with Wescott but if I recall it opens with a screen that has 3 boards. The top and bottom boards only have track so there is plenty of room to add scenery and rolling stock but I think when I open the route/session that the middle board has a load of splines etc scattered all over and it is quite hard to see what is happening. Where did all the splines etc come from and can I get rid of them??

Middle Vales is a different layout. Middleton with canal is simpler and set in an earlier time period. If you save you can restart it later. You can always redownload a layout if it all goes wrong.

Cheerio John

Thanks John. I will try that download in the morning.

EDIT @John Whelan, I have been and removed the Middle Vales route and installed Middleton with canal. I had a look and it opened on the canal in a boat under AI instruction so I sat there and enjoyed the scenery. It drove up to a lock, stopped and started off back down the way we had just come. There were continual notes appearing at the left side of the page about people being stuck or waiting for signals etc. It is a very busy (for me) session but I will do a bit more looking around and see where I can get to. Thanks for this.

I have been back and and had a look at Middleton with canal and I am confused. I can't seem to get off this boat and take control anywhere else. It is becoming a bit worrying so I will go back and try the tutorials and learn how to drive a bit better.

Camera icon, go to roaming, then sort of turn left, follow the tracks until you find the tram loco with loaded sand etc. Chris did a nice job of this one if you just follow it. There is also a tram loco with carriages that carries passengers from one station to the next. Another one carries sheep and cattle? picking them up and then dropping them off at a different station.

The layout was designed to run on an i5 so plenty of CPU but a series 4000 integrated graphics card meant polys had to be cut to the bone. It is however a simple layout and you can create a different session and put locos and rolling stock that you fancy on it.
