Thanks for that John. I have had a look and quite enjoyed the train running around and unloading at various points. I have found some Trainz 2019 HELP Pages and I have made my first route and saved it as 'Test 1' as per instructions. It is just a single loop line that goes around one board but I am happy with that. I have started on the next exercise that is "How to create your first session. I will let you know what happens.

Hi, I'm back with more tales of woe. I managed to create the route Test 1 as per the instructions and went on to create a session on this route, this meant opening Test 1 and selecting 'Create Session'. It then said to open the layers tab and see that the Route Layer is locked and the Session is not. In my case both were unlocked ?? However I carry on and open the Train tab and select BR CLASS 08 Blue 1 for my loco and put it on the track. I then go to Driver and am prompted to save the Route so I save. In Driver Mode I choose easy mode and the simple drive controls appear on screen, I use these to get the loco moving and I find the controls seem to be reversed ?? ie turning the control clockwise moves the loco in reverse and vice versa but otherwise I have control. Also I can ramp up the control to 100% but the loco only goes to 21MPH instead of 40MPH. Anyone know what is happening here ??. I am feeling quite proud I have a loco on a track and I can make it go forwards/reverse but I really want more now.

Are you sure the loco is in reverse? I have 2 different models of the 08, one is "cab forward" the other is "bonnet forward". I know the real 08 is "bonnet forward".
Also it is probable that the content creator has made the loco with a top speed of 21mph. It is a class 08 after all.

Just to confirm, if you look at the loco in Surveyor, make sure the red and green arrows are pointing the direction you'd consider forward, i.e. bonnet first. If not, you can change this by clicking on the circular arrow button on the loco tab, then resave.

Thanks for that, I have sorted it out.

I tried that and it just turned the loco (and arrows) around to point the other way. There was something else I clicked and it trew up another circle icon and when I clicked it it moved the arrows only and it now runs as it should (for me).

There is an issue with the interior view versus exterior view. This is very confusing and was a bug that was introduced I think in either TS12 or TANE. I submitted a bug report about it but never got an answer regarding the issue. Forward driving of the locomotive should mean front regardless of the direction of the model. It's as if the physical model direction has been disconnected from the driving direction.

Your locomotive needs to face forward physically so that the bonnet is in the forward direction on your locomotive, so that the controls will coincide with each other. If you were to set up the front, meaning green arrow facing towards the windows instead of the long hood, your controls will be reversed.

Thanks JCitron, I think I can see what you mean but at present I have cured my problem and can carry on trying to set up my first session as per Tainz Help

Nearly all UK diesels and electrics - apart from shunting (switching) locos such as the Class 08 - are double-ended. As such, it makes sense that the controls are always set to forwards towards the windows, regardeless of which end of the loco you are driving from.

The only mainline diesel that is single ended is the class 20. Although early in their life, late 1950s, they were used singly like a steam loco with the cab at the back, later on the were almost exclusivly used in pairs, with the cabs outwards. So here it also makes sense that forwards is towards the windows, not the bonnet.

Thanks for this explanation.

That makes sense. The physical forward direction is not in synch with the driving direction. This is why the controls are confused. As I said, something changed. I thought it was in TS12 but I'm beginning to think it was in TANE and this coincides with the changes in the signal scripts. The signals only show a green aspect when the locomotive is forward. When we are inside the locomotive and the controls reverse, the signals remain at red which defeats the purpose of driving in reverse while in the cab.

missing name

@pfx (Innis), I have been to Wescott(or Midshire) and when I start a session it says ATLS XING on Channel 5 has no name. Correct it in Surveyor. ?? What do I do ??

Hi crigdon.

Try downloading the base session kuid2:298788:103140, then edit the session and merge it into the route layer. That might fix it. If not, I'll take a look at it as it would be fairly simple to fix it if you edit the route.

I tried to edit and deleted a crossing ooops. I will leave it as it is.

If you delete anything in surveyor, click on CTRL + Z and it will undo what you just whoopsied.

Is the crossing working too then?

If not, let me know and I'll talk you through it. Basically all you need to do is use the '?' on the various crossing parts and on the ones where it's required, set the channel to 1. Do the same with the green T track markers, and make sure the ATLS slave is set to channel 1 and the 'Asset set to control traffic on Route' is set to LCM. You might not be able to select the slave due to the greenery around it, but if you shift enough you'll be able to.

Cheers,
Innis
