New UK user needs help

Hi All,
new old user here. I last played Trainz around 15 years ago and now find some time on my hands to start again. I am in the UK (Scotland) and I would like to drive UK sessions. I see there are sessions for Dundee, Edinburgh, London and ECML routes but I can't seem to get them on my computer. Do they need to be paid for and downloaded ?? I have installed the Cornwall sessions, Looe, Liskeard etc but would like to expand to the Fife area if possible.
Any help please.

The two ECML routes (London to Edinburgh and Edinburgh to Dundee) were included in previous versions of Trainz. You can get them in TRS22 in three ways:
1. Buying the individual routes from the Trainz store.
2. Buying copies of TANE and/or TRS19. The routes included with those versions will then be available for you to download and use in TRS22.
3. Taking out a Trainz+ subscription that includes access to the routes.

The cheapest option is probably number 2, especially if there's a sale on. There are also "platinum" editions of both TANE and TRS19 that come with loads of content at a good price.

There are also plenty of free UK routes available too, so it's worth looking around before spending money.

Thanks for that. I bought 2022 because I thought those routes were included but I have made a big mistake. I will consider Trainz 19 as the answer although as you say there are other UK routes available. I am at a loss at the moment. Thanks again.

"There are also plenty of free UK routes available too, so it's worth looking around before spending money." Are these routes on 2022 ?? or do I need to search somewhere for them ? I am sorry for all the questions but at 84 years old it is quite hard for me to keep all these facts in mind.
Thanks for the help

The London to Edinburgh ECML route is $39.99, but if you buy the standard version of TANE you'll get it included for $6.99. Once you own TANE you'll be able to access the ECML through the Content Store menu attached to your copy of TRS22. If you last played Trainz 15 years ago you most certainly are going to see plenty of changes in TRS22, but there's a lot of folk here on the forum who will be only too willing to answer any questions you might have.

The free routes can be found on the Download Station (DLS) and you'll find a link button to it at the top of this page. The index can take some getting used to, but it is about the best way to search what is available. Since you have TRS22 it will be best if you only look at routes made for TANE, TS2019/TRS19 and TRS22 as anything earlier will take a lot of work to get them to function properly or look any good in TRS22.
Once you've found a route you'd like to take a look at enter its name into TRS22's Content Manager on the download page and if all looks fine select 'download' from the menu and you should be good to go. Depending on your internet connection and whether or not you have a First Class Ticket (FCT) it might take a while to download everything.

Hi Craigdon,

Unfortunately none of the routes (including the London/Edinburgh and the other session to Dundee) really run through Fife - rather like the current rail network...

Since it's my Mother-in-law's county, I've a couple of sources, but there're pretty thin on details, and the Fife coastal routes were confusing when I looked at the old OS maps. There are (as I'm sure you know) many historical routes that were marked on maps, but then lifted at different times (see the area south of the Tay road bridge for example).

Do you have a particular region of Fife in mind? - there's probably enough to keep a modeller happy around Methil and the Docks (choose your time period carefully!) or the Fishing industry around the coast - if you can find the routes on the maps!
The actual working is harder to detail - there seem to have been a number of shuttle passenger services - even when there was a through route!

Cheers,

Colin

Hi Doncraig, best place to look for free routes is via your Content Manager. I can't remember if the now very dated Glasgow - Falkirk High is still there but it's worth a search. Whether it will work or not in TRS19 is another thing. Similarly, there was a Fort William - Mallaig route which may also be available. If I can remember who created them, I'll post again and let you know. I'm not aware of anything in Fife other than the section of the ECML that is included in the Edinburgh - Dundee route. Not much consolation, but I'm currently working on the Edinburgh - Glasgow route which I'd originally intended to run as far as Inverkeithing, but this may be curtailed slightly or it'll never be finished. You can follow progress over on the British Trainz site here https://forum.british-trainz.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3785

Colin, I wouldn't say nothing really runs through Fife. A substantial section of the Edinburgh - Dundee route does. Not sure that it covers any of the inner circle route or line to Perth though as I haven't downloaded it yet.

Cheers,
Innis

Innis,
Thanks for the reminder about west Fife - for the Dundee to Edinburgh route. We normally end up in the East Neuk - nearest station are Kirkaldy or St Andrews x neither really convenient!.

Hi Craigdon

Im the route builder of both of the ECML routes. It was a group effort many moons ago but just myself at present. My plan is to continue to Aberdeen but may intime expand some areas including the Circle. Also Finsbury Park to Broad St, Spalding-March-Peterborough,March-Cambridge-Hitchin come to mind. Im presently rebuilding a derelict cottage which I bought and live at so this is my priority having time away from Trainz. I am gradually ramping up on Trainz again ( fired up the PC at the weekend )so if your interested in building the circle line and adding to the ECML let me know! I think I have the DEM for it somewhere.

Thanks
Fiona ( was Stuart but trans now )

Thank you all for such a great response. As well as the TRS22 I have purchased Trainz 19 Platinum Edition and seem to have what I need (after I get round to using my FCT's and trawling through the Download Station).
I wanted the piece of Edinburgh-Dundee to see if it can be updated (Thornton Junction is now Glenrothes and work has started on a link to Leven that I would love to see.
I am taking it slowly and it is a bit of struggle some days but we will get there.
My problem at the moment is I have no KUID , is it needed now ?? I suspect it is. The only piece of information I have is ' use "Register User ID" under Programs>Auran>Trainz from the Start Menu or browse the Trainz folder for "Register User ID" or RUN the file "EditKUID.exe". Lots of problems here, a search cannot find any Auran files/folders, I cannot see the files mentioned in the Trainz folder.
I think this will do for the moment and I will say Thank You All very much for steering me in the right direction.

Hi Craigdon,

You can find your KUID if you click on the 'MyTrainz' at the top of this screen. Once you do, sign in to your account, if it doesn't do so automatically, then click on the 'my user ID' link in the list on the left of the screen. You should then see your username and user ID shown. The user ID is your KUID too.

Cheers,
Innis

Thanks for that. I carried out your instructions and was rewarded with my username and the KUID. Thanks again.

Thanks Fiona, I can only suppose it will be some time before I am able to dabble with Surveyor. I was hoping there would be an easy way to do this but I am sure it will be just hard work. I think I will need to look into the rail situation in Fife and find out where they are going to lay the track from Leven to ??. As far as know the main line from the South comes from Edinburgh- across the Forth Bridge and up to Kirkcaldy. After that I don't know so I will have to delve into this blind, as it were. I have heard of a circle lin/route in Fife but I don't know what that is and I remember some years ago there was a farmer in Mid Fife had bought a very famous engine that was used for 'Specials' but that was years ago. It could have been the flying scotsman ??

I have copied these and will have a look on the DLS. I will get as much as I can while I have these 2 FCT's

EDIT I have had a look on the DLS and picked 'Vern MR - Strawberry Line by using the box at the bottom. I don't know what happened but I didn't get anything. I had one screen came up with a list of dependencies and it said at the side of them they were invalid ?? I haven't clue as to what is happening and will step back for a while. It is no pleasure working like this.
Thanks again for your suggestions and help.

Certain older assets won't work on TRS22, but may do on TRS19. If you could post the KUID numbers of a couple here, I can take a look.

I totally forgot there are a couple of routes I uploaded to the DLS, both of which are fictional, but are UK based. The first is Midshire and Rosworth Valley Lines (kuid2:298788:102630:1) which is an updated and amalgamated version of Midshire Mainline, by fudginator and nexusdj, and Rosworth Vale by chileanllama. There is a default session for it kuid:298788:102631 which sets up the level crossings. I never created any driveable sessions so it's a case of stick a train on it and drive wherever you want. It should work okay in TRS19 but I'd guess a few assets won't work in TRS22.

The second is Wescott Town. This is a small diorama type route and is essentially a single board with fiddle yards at either end. It's quite detailed and has electrified and non electrified lines. kuid:298788:103139

If you decide to download either and get stuck, let me know.

Thanks for the response but there is no panic.
I will start again with my list of instructions beside me and see what happens.
Many thanks
craigdon
PS I am beginning to remember/recognise some of the names I see on site and chileanlama springs to mind immediately. A long time ago since I spoke with him.
EDIT I have been to try out downloading Wescott Town. I failed miserably. I go to Download Station and enter 298788:103139 in the box and press Enter. Up comes a box that has 3 options (I haven't a clue here). Option 1 is "Download with Content Manager". Option 2 is "Download Details" and Option 3 is "Download Cart". Which is the option I want ??, I haven't a clue here and it is getting a bit oppressive for me. What I really need is a step by step guide and you tube doesn't seem to be much help with tutorials dating from 7 years ago.

Ignore the Download station web site. Go into manage content, filter custom, then stick the kuid number in. Right click download.

You can use the download station web site but since FTP support disappeared from most browsers it is more complicated to use. However it can be useful to find the exact kuid number as content manager isn't very good at that.

Thanks for that, I will try your suggestion and see what happens. I have been trying using the Download Station but it stops on a blank page with the heading !untitled" and the address bar reads
"firstclass.auran.com/Restricted/trainz/Trainz2000/layouts/KUID_298788_103139.cdp". It has sat like that for for a while now so I will have a go with your suggestion.
Thanks again
craigdon
EDIT I have been and had a look at what you suggested John but I can't understand where I have went wrong. I have opened Trainz 2019 and opened "Manage Content". I open "Content Manager" , select "Custom" enter the KUID in the top line. What next ? I don't see a Download option
