SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT
This is a legal agreement between you (either an individual or an entity) – Customer – and Roland Ziegler,
Kruppstrasse 18, 52072 Aachen, Germany – Producer. By using the SOFTWARE, you agree to be bound
by the terms of this Agreement. If you do not agree with this license agreement, you may not use the
software and must remove it from your computer.
SOFTWARE LICENSE
GRANT OF LICENSE. This License Agreement (License) permits you to use a single copy, or multiples
copies if you are the only user of the software product identified above, which may include user
documentation provided in on-line or electronic form (software). This grant of using the software is restricted
to non-commercial purposes. The software is licensed as a single product, to an individual user. The
software is in use on a computer when it is loaded into the temporary memory (i.e. RAM) or installed into the
permanent memory (e.g. hard disk) of that computer. This software may be installed on a network provided
that appropriate restrictions are in place limiting the use to registered users only.
COPYRIGHT. All physical copies of the software are the property of the licensed user but use of the software
is restricted according to the terms as specified above (GRANT OF LICENSE). The software is protected by
Federal Republic of Germany copyright laws and international treaty provisions. All Intellectual Property
Rights (IPR) remain the property of the producer. You may not copy the printed materials accompanying the
software (if any), nor print copies of any user documentation provided in on-line or electronic form unless for
the specific use of a licensed user as specified above (GRANT OF LICENSE). You must not redistribute the
registration codes provided, either on paper, electronically, or as stored in files or any other form.
OTHER RESTRICTIONS. The registration notification provided, showing your authorization code and this
License is your proof of license to exercise the rights granted herein and must be retained by you. You may
not rent or lease the software, but you may transfer your rights under this License on a permanent basis,
provided you transfer this License, the software and all accompanying printed materials, retain no copies,
and the recipient agrees to the terms of this License. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or
disassemble the software, except to the extent the foregoing restriction is expressly prohibited by applicable
law.
LIMITED WARRANTY
LIMITED WARRANTY. The producer warrants that the software will perform substantially in accordance with
the accompanying printed material (if any) and on-line documentation for a period of 90 days from the date of
receipt.
CUSTOMER REMEDIES. Producer's entire liability and your exclusive remedy shall be, at producer's
option, either (a) repair or replacement of the software that does not meet this Limited Warranty, or (b)
producer support for avoiding or bypassing the problem. This Limited Warranty is void if failure of the
software has resulted from accident, abuse, or misapplication. Any replacement software will be warranted
for the remainder of the original warranty period or thirty (30) days, whichever is longer.
NO OTHER WARRANTIES. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the producer disclaims all
other warranties, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability
and fitness for a particular purpose, with respect to the software and any accompanying written materials.
NO LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in
no event shall the producer be liable for any damages whatsoever (including, without limitation, damages for
loss of business profits, business interruption, loss of business information, or other pecuniary loss) arising
out of the use or inability to use the software, even if the producer has been advised of the possibility of such
damages. In no event will the producer's, its suppliers’ and licensers’ liability exceed the amount paid by the
customer for the Software regardless of the form of the claim including, without limitation, any contract,​

I think it was mentioned that Auran would be looking into integrating dem data for 2009/10 versions into the simulator, if I understood correctly.......... What that might entail I have no idea and that's also back to the waiting game in the nebulous future........... Many simulators now included integrated dem data for the auto-creation of routes which are swiftly generated............ Regarding overlays of world terrain data I am not well up on that part. Perhaps if Auran could advise regarding what the position is with 2009 version and use that as a basis to work on, otherwise it might obsolete work done by forum members now?....just a thought..................... Its not a case of use Transdem or use Hog as is mentioned, is is to do with using a user-friendly program easily accessible...payware has limitations as it requires ordering on-line which many may not be able to do, or may not wish to do...me for one....also it is not just HOG that has to be learnt but microdem which can be tricky, unless there is a another way. See my basic tutorial on this thread....and i still would like to know re my question on this thred.............how to delete spare baseboards with HOG for uk data as tiger data is for USA.....Barry

Right, I saw that too. Truth is, we have 1 guy on the team that even knows how to do this special craft, let alone create a normal DEM... and he paid for TransDEM. Also, we are not commercial; we are a loosely organized group of railroad and railsim fans, each with unique talents. Our group has always made any public offerings freeware.

Just because our single individual is part of a group, doesn't mean that the whole group is going to skip saturdays so we can all bust-out maps. A few folks are getting an odd perception about what is really being discused.

I would also add that, before anyone goes ballistic here, we are only discussing it at this stage? Hello? Isn't that exactly why we discuss it?

My advice to you guys (and it's easy to see that you're intentions are well meaning, and that you're not deliberately trying to "Steal" anything, regardless of what some over-excited people are saying) is to drop TransDem and look into using HOG.

I know it's not an easy learning curve to get exact results, but there are plenty of tutorials out there, and several people who use it regularly and would probably be glad to give you some pointers.
That way, you can distribute as many maps as you like, and although you can't overlay textures like google earth, at least you'll be giving plenty of people a head start on their routes.

Touching on what Barry said, and repeating something I've said many times here, Trainz should have had DEM importing a long, long time ago, and it beggars belief that it's still not in there.

I would suggest that anyone who wants these features in Trainz Email Auran or post in the suggestions forum (or the Dev forum) asking for Dem import and possibly image overlay features (we don't know a lot about the decals mentioned by Auran yet).

The only short-term solution I can think of would be to use Transdem to create the maps, place the tracks and the roads yourselves, and then release them.
If you class them as complete in that form, then you are abiding by the license.

I'll be amazed, and quite saddened, if Auran decide to celebrate 10 years of Trainz with their new TRS2009/X, with these features still missing from the game.

I myself am not familiar with Geophil, the program itself, nor DEMs in general. However, I'm backing up my teammates and friends at GAURC, who's only intentions with these DEM maps was to please others.

In a statement created by the program's creator, read that GAURC was in some sort of violation posting these DEM maps. We have not done anything that voids the EULA of any program we've used. GAURC is a strictly freeware website, and have never sold a product (created solely by us, or using someone elses' programs). I see nothing wrong with what was done on GAURC's part.

I don't understand why everyone gets so darn territorial when it comes to Trainz Railroad Simulator. After all, it is a game and thus should be treated like a game.

Pick a camera up and go railfan. Thats where the real excitement is.

Tony Hilliam, has well stated enough(go find it, I'm not wasting my time), that TRS2009, will have the ability to import GeoData maps...

My first impression that all methods currently used, will be obsoleted by this new feature ...I so cry...not.

Folks, TRS2004 & TRS2006, shall be around for a long, long time. Anyone who wishes to use the legacy utilities for backdated routes, DLS content, etc...whatever, may do so, as long as the sun rises, and sets.

I'm not believing the older content will be abandoned, but I do trust Auran Pty Ltd, for a suitable solution to maintain possibly the worlds largest collection of 3rd party content, for the future.

The way Dr.(get that? DOCTORATE!) Roland Ziegler has been treated, is not professional! I respect Dr. Ziegler, because I have used my licensed copy of TransDEM Trainz Edition including UTM Topo and Google Maps, and I know his work is thoroughly thought out and to be praised, and not condemned.

Dr. Ziegler, has contributed greatly to my hobby, by creating a Trainz Exporter, called TranzDEM.

First of all I would like to thank the TransDEM users for expressing their support and solidarity here in the forum and in emails and personal messages. This is really encouraging and keeps me going.

I am also grateful for goodell911's clarification that the new technology advertised in this thread is not new, not original or unique, not his or theirs, but is widely known under the name TransDEM.

As far as I understand goodell911 himself is not involved in the TransDEM side of this. The route builder in charge would be caddylars, one of the many TransDEM users around the world, one of the many working in a route building team and also one of the many who occasionally ask me for support which I'm happy to provide.

When I came across this thread I was pointed to caddylars and I contacted him on May, 31st. I expressed my point of view and he explained his view of the plans in question, significantly different to those announced here by goodell911. Caddylars's answer and explanation settled the issue for me and I wished them luck with their route project.

Altogether we exchanged five messages on this subject and that has been the only direct communication I had. There are no secrets or personal matters in these messages and if caddylars wants to make them public he should feel free to do so.

Transdem is not that difficult to use, is not that expensive to buy and as I said at the start of this thread - doing your own terrain is a great way to learn about the landscape through which you're building the route.

If nobody buys the programme because someone has offered to produce the maps in the manner that GAURC has, then where does the guy get the investment from to further develop the programme? Doesn't matter if the proposed distribution is freeware, it's impacting on Dr. Ziegler's potential to sell more copies of Transdem.

Even if this database of terrain comes about, I will still prefer to create my own and will fully support Transdem including paying for any future upgrades or new version of the programme to work with future TRS editions.

Dr. Ziegler, has never, ever been slow to respond to a question about HOG, MicroDEM, TransDEM Trainz Edition, different mapping sources, different regions of the globe, etc.

And all his advice, is free!

Hi,

Yes Transdem is a great proggy. I cant live without it now for making my maps. The support is great and also the time geophil invest constant in this program. Look at the tutorials, the manual(well very detailed and i think making the manual alone cost Geophil alot of work), updates. Also the price is very low for this programm. So in that way i can understand geophil and get my support. Routebuilding is the same as making assets. You need some time to invest to work with the programm. You also need time to learn with Gmax if you want to create assets. And in that way transdem is alot easyer to laern then Gmax
