New Guy On The Block - Understanding Broken Routes, Dependency layers.

New here, my apologies if this isn't an appropriate post for this question.
I am using Trainz 22 PE, and I have 4 sessions (routes) available to me that have a red exclamation mark on their thumbnail. I assumed this to be an error flag of sorts. I looked them up in Content Manager, and indeed these sessions had Packaged, Faulty Dependencies associated to them.

The routes are:
Balezino to Mosti, Day and Night Passenger
Mosti to Balezino, Day and Night Passenger

When I view their dependencies, I see that "Balezino - Mosti, Russia" has an error - "Packaged, Faulty Dependencies, Payware"

When I query the depencies for that package, I am seeing a series of assets as "Packaged, Faulty" These include:
<kuid2:354694:161002:4> UZ_Jun_bl_R-1/11-mo-left
<kuid2:354694:150002:4> UZ_Jun_bl_L-1/11-mo-left

<kuid2:354694:60011:3> UZ_Jun_w_R-1/11-mo-left

If I click on these asset's dependencies, there are no further errors. They all say "packaged".

From this information, what is happening? I know there are components missing required to run that route to it's designed intent, but how did they become missing when these routes came packaged with Trainz22? I have a feeling a portion of this "free" route uses payware components ("Balezino - Mosti, Russia"). Why would they package these routes knowing payware components are a prerequisite? Perhaps I'm not interpreting things properly.

How does on go about resolving these issues of missing dependencies, which oddly when drilled down to the last level claim no errors (ie missing dependencies within the missing dependencies)..

Try this: See if any of them are Modified, if so, highlight one at a time and see if you can right click and select in fly out menu, the item

"REVERT TO ORIGINAL" option, some or none will change back to original status unmodified.

Below, I scoured Google for additional links to different issues with Asset Faulty situations.

Hope this helps and there are other more learned members than me, that might weigh in with your particular situation.

Hey @blueodessey , really appreciate the time you put into your reply. Thank you. Some of these refewrences I found already and tried, like rebuilding the database (which netted 85 errors and 1237 warnings ... weird considering an install of less than a week and less than 20 hours of gameplay), and failing to revert back to original (not a selectable option).

I found "Balezino - Mosti, Russia" as an installed route in the purchased section of Trainz Content. I uninstalled it, and reinstalled, but these assets still ended up being flagged as faulty.

I have found other assests faulty in Content manager (*Faulty filter). Some I can select "Download" or "Download this version" (those assets appearingly installed from DLS) from that asset's dropdown, but nothing happens. The download window opens and proceeds to search but that window promplty closes. I think it displays a message but it closes so quickly it can't be read.

The other faulty assets, like the ones reported, have status as "Packaged, Faulty", "Packaged, faulty dependencies", "Packaged, faulty dependencies, payware", "Packaged, Missing dependencies", or "Packaged, Missing dependencies, payware". None of these have options to download from the menu.

Edit ... just some extra information to assist in helping me figure out what I'm seeing and means, if any, to resolve errors. I'm kinda OCD and prefer no red LOL.

I stepped through each installation to determine which packages were contributing to the faulty components.
[Shmmns Coil Transporter] - Packaged, Missing dependencies, Payware - has 2 <unknown assets> ???
[Trainz Route: Niddertalbahn] - has an uninstall option in the Train Cntent Store, however, Content managers reports it as "Not installed, obselete, payware (not active)" - which is it?'
[Laadgs Transporter] - has two session assets "Not installed, Payware (not active) v4.3", and two faulty session assets "Packaged, Missing dependencies" relating to two train assets "Packaged, Missing dependencies, Payware"
[DBuz 747 Passenger Cars] - has a train asset, "Packaged, Missing dependencies, Payware" based on an <unknown assets>.
[Trainz Route: Belezino Mosti] - has a "Not installed, Obselete, Payware (not active)" session, with 2 "Packaged, faulty dependencies" each with respect to 9 missing building assests in the faulty "Balezino - Mosti, Russia" route

I found a lot of Obselete assets in my examination of installed routes, likely because they were repaced by route "packages". Are

Sorry to hear you are having these issues,, I too have those problems with Payware.

OK, so if the Payware is Faulty, you can't fix Payware, its not allowed as it NV3's or DLC, Rte, Asset Creator whose assets are protected by Trainz or themselves. Which means, you have two choices, to disable the Faulty or missing Payware, or Uninstall it completely..

As for missing Payware in Routes you have, or not installed, that is common problem, since the person that made the Asset didn't check to see what was installed on Asset they made, this just normal. So again, you have the choice to delete missing assets on the Route or Asset Item, or disable them.

Additional Reads for you to investigate, hopefully these will help you?

A disclaimer, I am OCD too, and hate to seeing Red, I drive myself crazy sometimes, But I like order of set, and fluidity. OR as some say Orderliness. At least that is what I try to accomplish..

"Balezino - Mosti, Russia" was one of my problem children! I love the Route, but unfortunately my only solution was to uninstall it to clear the Red Flags.

Choose List Asset Versions
Sort by Status by clicking on the column so that the status shows Available to download.

If Status isn't shown, right-click on the column and choose that from the list. The new column will be appended on the far right. Click on the title and drag where you want to put it.

Right-click on the assets that show Available to download, and choose download.

Since these are packaged, you can't remove the obsolete assets and this should update the ones you have installed.

What Blue said in his post is an excellent how-to for general updating and content management.

Thank you both, John and Blue for your support. I appreciate it very much. Managing this sim's content is more complicated than the sim itself.
It took awhile, but I downloaded the available versions for the missing Balezino - Mosti route as dexribed by John. No problems and their red errors are gone ... replaced by grey "Packaged, Obselete". I still have alot of other errors ... route, sessions and train, associated with NSW Donnybrook Branch (installed) and Laadgs Transporter (installed).

NSW Donnybrook Branch doesn't show up in the purchased list on Trainz Content. Trainz Niddertalbahn (a prerequisite for Laadgs Transporter) and Laadgs Transported both appear in the purchased list as installed.
From the Trainz Driver interface, both Niddertalbahn and Donnybrook appear as selectable routes, however their banners are grey vs green. Donnybrook has an orange "broken link" type icon that when clicked brings up the assets in content manager for that route. Nothing red there, although applying the faulty filter shows a red NSW Donnybrook Branch and two red Donnybrook faulty sessions ("Installed from DLS, Missing Dependencies"). Checking the Donnybrook dependencies list, there are no red entries. Listing asset versions reveals 2 unknown assets, 6 Available for download, Obselete and one red route. I feel these errors are generated from two faulty sessions. I can download these sessions ... the dialogue opens and quickly downloads a bunch of content, yet these errors persist. In the select a session interface for Donnybrook, two sessions appear but have the orange broken link icon as well. Clearly these sessions are the bug, but how to fix?

Niddertalbahn on the other hand, athough appearing in the route menu appears unplayable. There are no sessions associated with it, which I find unusual. Not even a free drive. Likely because of the faulty trains and sessions associated with Laadgs Transporter, but wouldn't Niddertalbahn be packaged with it's own sessions? Laadgs Transporter is just an "addon session" for that payware package.

Also, what are these? There is nothing playable ... no sessions. Only options are to abandon route, edit the route or create route?

Those in purple are multi-player sessions (mps) and are part of the multi-player routes.
Donnybrook is not DLC, its on the DLS via CM.
The orange link is for missing assets.
The red one for faulty.

The quickest way is to list dependencies recursively for a route or session. Then select all and click on download all. Any DLS assets that have been updated or were missing will be downloaded.

Edit - just downloaded Laadgs, no errors or missing assets

Same thing with Shmmns. Try package uninstall and then re-install.

You most welcome Sir.

I should add, I have been playing around with Trainz since I was 4yrs old, I remember in Sacramento, an electrified Sacramento California Freight Locomotive pulling Boxcars and Tankers down the middle of the Street to Customers. I was so fascinated by it!

And now since 2010 I have been playing with Train Sims, 2014 I joined Trainz Player2 on a small iPad with 30 Megs of Memory, how I ever did that I don't know? Must be the Geek in me. (Yes I am a full Blown Geek)

Here I am now through several versions of Trainz, now playing Trainz 22 PE with Train TRS2019 PE when 22 wants to act up on older stuff LOL!, which I didn't know if I would ever buy, because I am older now, and there is so much to learn in this Latest Version of Sims.

And to be a part of this Cool Forum with some really Smart Folks willing to help us, it is when you think of it, pretty awesome.

Trainz is not perfect, no Software ever is (Think Windows with its issues or MAC) however. I love Trainz, and I've pulled a few of my Hairs out of my thinning Hair, to try and figure why Trainz does what it does sometimes. My first computer was Radio Shack Tandy 1000 with Basic, ran at a blistering 6Megahertz speed (LOL I could walk faster) back in the day, think it was 1970 then?

But would ever think from running an all Wooden Train set around the Xmas Tree when they were 5 yrs old,, to Lionel, to HO layout 7.5 X 22 Feet,, and then on to the 21st Century, a Virtual Sim on Valve, (Steam) over to Trainz in 2014. Things have changed.

Would add learn everything you can about Content Manager! Make it work for you, exercise the heck out of it.

Save you Assets, Routes whatever is important, 2 Backups minimum, one on Portable Storage, the other on the Cloud (never depend solely on the Cloud) huge mistake people make.

Recently back in January of this year, I lost 4 years of work in Trainz with about 1/3 of my Routes, why, Well I was watching good Movie on the Tube with Mr.’s Blue, and didn't notice I deleted the files in wrong drive, I had 8 windows open on Laptop.

It took a mere 4 minutes too because of a major catastrophic event!

As to why? I was ditching my old outdated ROG (republic of gamers) Strix Laptop, 6 Years old with NVIDIA 1080 Graphics Card 2meg, to newer 2022 model HP Victus Laptop with NVIDIA RTX 4060 (R stands for Ray Tracing) with dual 4 Gig Samsung SSD 980's)

That little hiccup cost me 3.5 weeks of rebuilding, reinstalling fresh copies of TRS 22 and TRS19 (both PE for Platinum).

Why do I use two versions of Trainz, Simple, comparability, if you’re like me, and have older Routes and Assets, Like Windows and older Software Versions, not everything is going to play nice in TRS22, and some Routes will just crash in 22, and older stuff will sometimes crash in 19PE as well.

Yes, it is more work and more Hard Drive Space. But there are older Routes I just love playing with, and at this point I won't give them up, so I enjoy switching between the programs versions and having fun.

I should add that all the stuff, PAYWARE especially, I have collected a bit, and now, I am going thru and cleaning things out, older versions, and any Routes I really don't use anymore etc. Less is more in some cases.

Grace saving things, I had several backups from 5-7 years old or more, that used to restore everything.

Think of Trainz as one huge Relational Data Base, that is constantly changing both by NV3 (updates or Patches) and you the user.

And I can't emphasize this enough, when buy or rehab an older Computer, get the largest Hard Drive you can afford, because our Graphics size of Files (think of Picture size on iPhone used to be small, now is quite large.

As I get older, now in my mid 70's I find things getting more and more complex as Society becomes more affected by amazing technology,

Now AI is no longer on the Horizon but actually here..... There is much to learn, what a task, I must admit, there is no way to keep up with this. But I find myself constantly learning and intrigued.

The quickest way is to list dependencies recursively for a route or session. Then select all and click on download all. Any DLS assets that have been updated or were missing will be downloaded.

Edit - just downloaded Laadgs, no errors or missing assets
<kuid2:212731:780001:1> Laadgs: Cars for Stockheim
<kuid:212731:500072> 3DZ Laadgs Enginespecs
<kuid2:212731:780000:1> Laadgs: Car Collector
<kuid2:212731:500020:2> 3DZ Laadgs A (TC)
<kuid2:212731:500027:2> 3DZ Laadgs B (TC)
<kuid2:212731:500030:1> 3DZ Laadgs Enginespecs
<kuid2:212731:500021:1> DB Bogey Laadgs
<kuid2:212731:500029:1> 3DZ Laadgs Freight Sound
<kuid2:212731:500028:1> Laadgs Textureset

Same thing with Shmmns. Try package uninstall and then re-install.
Thank you @stagecoach for your support.

A bit of lack of understanding with "list dependencies recursively for a route or session. Then select all and click on download all"

I felt that maybe uninstalling Laadgs and reinstalling Laadgs may be easier as you've confirmed there are no errors or missing assets. So, using Trainz Content interface, purchased, I found Laadgs Transporter. I clicked the uninstall button, and it "uninstalls". I am left now with an install button, so I press it. I get a button then that says "view Error", and in doing so reveals a message "Some assets of resource 'simc:sc388' are missing required dependencies. Please check if other resources require updating." It was installed despite the error. Where best to find those dependencies needing updating? A filter of routes and sessions in CM highlights 6 red sessions. I right click on one of the the Laadgs ones (why is it there if it wasn't installed?) and select "List dependencies recursively". A new window opens with a list of 34568 items of a variety of types.

  • 6 <unknown assets>
  • 15 combined Train, Spline and Misc "Available for download" - I highlighted them all and proceeded to download, but at 29KB/sec it's going to take some time to download the 29 items. I have access to a FCT, but I shouldn't have to waste it on trying to repair a package that was purchased with faults. I would have expected things to work out of the box. Why package them in the final product if they don't work?
  • 2 "Built in, Newer version available" - how to get the new version? No download option
  • 1 "Not installed, Payware (not active)" for "Niddertalbahn - TRS19" route - I could have sworn I had this route installed as per the Trainz Content interface, purchased list. It has the option to download.
  • 2 "Packaged, Missing dependencies, Payware" for 3DZ Laadgs A (TC) and 3DZ Laadgs B (TC). These are faults with no download options. If I right click on one of them to pull up a list of dependencies recursively, nothing seems out of the ordinary other than a single <unknown asset> among the group of 11 non-faulty asset KUIDs.

Followed the same for Shmmns .. uninstalled, then reinstalled and received similar error ""Some assets of resource 'simc:sc432" are missing required dependencies. Please check if other resources require updating." From CM's route filter, i right clicked on faulty session "GZ57413" - one of 2, maybe 4 faults - to list the dependencies recursively (what the difference between this and simply listing dependencies?). It opened a list of 546 items, for the most part clean except for 8 <unknown assets> and 1 faulty train "3DZ Shmmns (TC)". No download options associated with it. Again, right click on it to list dependencies recursively, which opens a 3rd window now reporting no problems.

So, these are reporting missing dependencies, but not sure what they are or how to get them at this point. Uninstall, install doesn't install cleanly, and drilling down through dependencies doesn't offer and means to download/update.

Sorry for being annoying, but really trying to understand the whole CM thing and how to use it to keep things clean and orderly. I was a Trainz 12 and TANE user, and I always had to download content through Auran's online download station. But it appears now that is redundant with Trainz 22 where you download DLS content from the CM. Which brings up another question. I can use the "Download Station" filter to display the assets available from there. How do I filter it further to just reveal Routes available at DLS?

Hi Blue. I appreciate your comments. Yeah, backups are critical and I do rely on them. I will surely backup once I get things as clean as I can get.
Software is indeed getting more complicated. Trainz with it's unique ability to allow people to create by using already available assets does creat challenges in maintaining an updated database of such assets, which is what I believe CM strives to provide. It's very easy to break a route when assets are borrowed, those original assets get updated by the original author, but said assets don't get updated in those packages that others used said assets. I find it odd, I'm sure there is reason, that finding errors and resolving them like this is up to the user to initiate rather than automatically performed. It's daunting for a new user fow everything is intertwined. There is a crapload of documentation, but I didn't spend $50 to spend my time reading on how to fix things. For this reason I am thankful for forums like these where skilled and knowledgeable folk unselfishly willing to provide help.

In CM select a route or session and right click list dependencies recursively.
Highlight an asset and go to the edit tab and select all.
Right click and select download. Any missing asset found on the DLS will download the latest versions.
Laadgs is linked to the route with 2 sessions 3DZ Laadgs A (TC) and 3DZ Laadgs B (TC). <unknown asset> is the route which was missing.
3DZ Shmmns (TC) would be another session without the route installed
Packaged content is correct at the time it was put together. Some assets used may have been updated on the DLS or an asset came from another DLC package.
list dependencies = only list the main dependencies
list dependencies recursively = also lists dependencies of dependencies

In CM to the left of the window that says installed, click the little arrow.
Change installed to download station
On the right of the new window you have a +. Click on this to add another window below it. In the selection window (asset kuid may be showing) click and scroll down to category and in the window on the right select route

Slowly but surely I am both understanding things, and getting things repaired. As suggested by @stagecoach, I selected all assets from the list of recursive dependencies (for each route and session with errors), and selected download from each. There wre a handful of successful downloads, however a few errors along the way, most noteably due to assests not being foiund at Download Station.

What to do with these assets "not found on the Download station"?

I googled for solutions for missing Trainz kuids, and discovered several people encounter missing assets with a seemingly challenging mission to find them. There was one post in which editing the config.txt file might eliminate the missing assets (not sure if that is wise or not). My config.txt, if I'm looking at the correct one, does not have anything in it looking remotely like what the poster referred to. Another post recommending to use http://www.trainzkuidindex.com , but although you can use the search feature, the site now being closed to new registrations prevents access to the actual information.

I think it's time to wave the white flag and enjoy what I have as I have it.

Good Morning rkillins,

It looks like you are coming along the " what else could possibly Fail or go wrong" true with a lot of Software we use these days.

So here is what I do, and the measure of success for failure I try to follow:

Make sure when you Check in CM what is missing, you just make a mental note in your mind how severe and how many Assets are missing for a particular Route.

Next open the Route and in Surveyor make sure "Show Missing Assets" is toggled on.

It may take minute or you might see the Orange Rectangles inside your Route where something missing should be.

A lot of times you be able to figure out what that building or Plant or whatever is missing.

Sometimes with Locomotive, it's missing a Horn, or Engine Sound File,

I will open the Config.txt file editor with Notepad or Notepad++ and go find another similar Horn or Engine sound on DLS and change it out and save it.

You might be able to substitute something similar

Whenever I am working with missing Assets, I keep my CM open with different lists showing, and use ALT+TAB to switch back and forth to refresh visual recognition of what I am looking for and the list of what is missing.

I also use this to repair some Asset Files with Uniform Color issues, not all Assets can be fixed.

Finally if a route has just 1-5 Assets missing, I take a hard look at them, open the Route see if I can replace with something else, or just plain delete them.

Why, because your time is precious, and sometimes like you say, be happy with what you have and delete the missing ones... Only a decision you can make.

Frankly,, I think you are doing very well, and lets face it, this stuff can get really intricate and complicated sometimes.

Other other thing, you can do, when you open a Asset, non payware, Clone the sucker, make a copy of it, open for edit and see how the Config.txt is inside.. This will help to see how things constructed.

One last thing, http://www.trainzkuidindex.com

This site was a lifesaver when it was working, but the cash model is what caused issues, the owner if I recall was able to make enough from limited donations too keep it going.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend. 🙏📿

For Donnybrook,
You might want to take a look at this here:

For Jointed Rail assets, you can download all free assets but you do need to create an account.

You can ignore the View Errors after downloading message. This is due to a version mismatch on the server compared to the version that's available for download. To remove this error, choose cancel.

If anything before giving up, I would check for packaged asset updates. To do this, create a new filter in Content Manager.

Where the top line says Installed, click on the small arrow to expand the window below.
- Click on the plus-sign (+) located on the far right.
- Click on the space that now says Asset Kuid, which is the default, and change that to Out of date and set the option on the right to --- True if it isn't already.
- Click on the plus-sign again on the right of the new line you just entered.
- Change that new line to Packaged and set that to true.

- Save this filter with a name that you will remember such as Out-of-date and built-in

- Right-click on any of these packages and choose View Asset versions.

This will open up a new window.

- Sort by status and download anything that says download available next to it. If you haven't added this and all the columns this is highly recommended and makes downloading, finding and sorting so much easier.

The purpose of this is due to the new version of the program version making changes and the author updating assets. Updates don't get installed automatically and it's up to the user to do so. This is the same for assets uploaded to the DLS and it is recommended to check this often, if not daily. You can do this by changing the line for Packaged assets to false.

If you still have issues with your purchased DLC, you need to contact N3V via the helpdesk above. Bear in mind that Cyclone Alfred may have put employees out of contact due to downed wires and flooding, possibly delaying their response back to your ticket.
