New Aircraft

I already have done reskinning, but you guys evidently haven't seen the new Thomson livery. It is incredibly complicated and best left to experts like Rob & Pascal. I also find it funny how you don't pick up on the other request me, Robert38a and others have made.

I don't do reskins for request, nor do I have a lot of interest in planes anymore. Why do you find it funny that I don't reskin? I find it hilarious that you expect me too. Gimme-gimme-gimme, doesn't matter what you say

H222,
Please actually read my post. I have requested many liveries, which Rob and Pascal have kindly obliged. I never ever asked you to reskin the plane, so please don't say that. I never found it funny that you don't reskin, so please read my post properly before saying things like that. And no, it's not gimmie gimmie gimmie because that's what this thread is for. Anyway, I refuse to talk to you anymore so please do not reply to me. I want to enjoy my planes thank you very much.

Boeing 777-32W/ER - TAM Airlines

Meet TAM. She's the lanky Brazillian lass that Bob asked for some time ago.

TAM is a Boeing 777-32W/ER. The 777-32W is effectively a 777-300 series. I haven't worked out the difference as yet.

And off she goes back to beautiful Brazil.

TAM has been uploaded to DLS & should be available shortly.

Wow guys, these are some amazing re-paints for aircraft!! I need to get some of these and start working on a airport!

Very nice Rob .......that will replace the A.320 I've got flying into Heathrow non-stop from Sao Paulo at the moment (it's got extra extra extra fuel tanks and weight remaining for 9 passengers) !

The 2W in TAM's 777-32W/ER is Boeing's customer code for TAM as is 36 for BA i.e. Boeing 777-336ER. The "3" denotes a -300 series.

The code B77W is the designation for a 777-300ER extended range but don't know what the W stands for - I've just tried looking it up again without success.

Keep going with the paintbrush - I'm as bad as the wife aren't I ?

Thanks again
Bob

Here are a few of my photos of my fictional Duncan Airport route. I ran out of motivation to try to finish it so what I did was merge it with existing routes, so that I can fly planes over them.

Freightcar2 - Nice pics! Shoot again please!

Rob - I just DL your magic carpet. Another good quality job!

For those who have particular requests, re-skinners or not .. The demand is registred in a very long list.. Myself, I will always prefer a request coming with a project, such as the one of Robert38a. Then, my own choice (a bit selfish, I know).
The new Thomson livery dont seem so difficult, but it's a bit early to have precise pics, and the 787 is not delivered yet. Wait and see.

Pascal

Thanks Pascal

Yesterday I had an idea to try reskinning for myself... and what better way to experiment than with the plane on which I first arrived in Canada 13 years ago? Quite a simple repaint to do actually, the hardest bit was finding a maple leaf logo for the tail and positioning it in the right place. Thoughts?

I'm not sure if I should release these or not... IIRC they have to be build 2.9 and the models are both lower than that.

freightcar2,

It is great to see someone else trying their hands at re-paints! Nice job for your first go. The more you do them, the more adventurous you'll get with complex paint jobs. Pascal & I are snowed under thanks to Ian's burst of new aircraft so any help is grand.

As far as the maple leaf log you speak of.. I find I pinch pics from the internet then crop & resize to add to the texture file. It tends to look a bit more realistic that way. The older the livery, the more difficult to find pics to pinch.

I notice that you have the old style of flashers for the re-paint you've done. It would be worth your while to have a look at page 173 of this forum thread to see how to update them to the new ones.

If you are to upload the re-paints to DLS, can I suggest you make sure a few things are done?
An important note to all. A re-paint/re-skin isn't simply about changing the .tga (texture) file. There are other activities that need to be done to do one properly (read on).

1. Change the name of the asset for both the name as see it in content manager & in the config.txt "username" field. Try to make the name unique if nothing else. Pascal & I (and trying to convince Ian) follow a system that includes the date of when the livery was rolled out to the asset name. That way we don't have multiple assets with the same name. It helps people to understand which one it is when they search. i.e. Boeing 747-400 Air Canada (1994+) The year isn't a must do. Either way, make the name logical & distinct.

2. Make sure you change the "preview.jpg" file to match the new paint sceme. It can be confusing when searching for an Air Canada B747 when it has a British Airways preview picture. There are examples out there.

3. There are a number of changes that need to be made to the config.txt file. They are highlighted in bold in the extract below (it is only the first section of the B747 config.txt file).

description "A re-skin with permission from Ian Manion (Vulcan) An Air Canada Boeing 747-400 aircraft in post 1994 livery. It operates on invisible track and will load passengers at a suitable landing area. The aircraft had a top speed of 567 mph (913 kph) and an all up weight of 396890 kg.

The aircraft has an automatically operating landing gear. This retracts at takeoff speed (280 kph) set in the script. It lowers at speeds below 280kph. The speeds for tilting and landing gear retraction on takeoff may be altered in the string table above - speeds are in kph.

It does not have an operating interior, but does have various exterior views based on an invisible interior, use the [ and ] keys from the interior view. The aircraft will load and unload passengers at suitable airports.

The aircraft has a number of animations that can be operated by keybpoard keys, or the Aircraft Action Trigger, kuid:76656:24050, when placed on track and set to the correct number:

- Wing flaps use the B key, or trigger setting 2
- horn sound H key is a welcome aboard in flight announcement, or trigger setting 1
- night lighting uses the L key, no trigger key
- it will issue smoke and sound from the tyres when landing, use trigger setting 4. See my wepages for further details.

Note the model engine specification is set up for operation in TC3. Original settings for acceleration and deceleration suitable for TRS2006 will not allow the aircraft to accelerate in TC3 - the settings have been increased by a factor of 4. If you find the aircraft accelerates too fast in TRS2006, reduce these setting to one quarter of their value."

An explanation for the extract in order.
The kuid will be updated when you clone the asset. Best not touch this.
The username I outlined above.
Change the Category-class (in config.txt) to "AG - Gas Turbine" This one is depending on what build you're using change this field as required (for jets & turboprops) if it isn't AG already.
Add or remove items from the Category-keyword field.
Ensure you add the following comment to the front of the asset description (config.txt or by "Edit in content creator plus"). "A re-skin with permission from Ian Manion (Vulcan)." This is a must & is very much about protecting his modelling & giving him credit for the original model.
I like to add the following to the "Author" field. "<name> - a reskin with permission from Ian Manion (Vulcan).
Change the category-region & the Category-era to suit the aircraft. TS12 I think has dropped these or dropped the requirement for them.
The Trainz build is an odd one. In some cases you can just change the number & it will be OK. Sometimes you'll have to use CCP to allow the upgrade to work properly. This part is a bit of a mine field at times.

These can all be changed in Content Creator Plus (CCP) as well (Ian will kill me for saying that). I use it for my aircraft re-paints. There are some underlying issues with models older builds, but I haven't had an issue with any of Vulcan's aircraft that couldn't be resolved. 2.9 is the minimum build for uploading to DLS so you'll need at least TS2009 (I think). A word of caution. There can be Warnings/errors. Typically it will be the "icon0" that is no longer supported (the industry tick). The way to fix this is to remove the line from the config.txt . It can be removed using CCP as well.

I hope this is useful information to you frieghtcar2. I like to encourage others to try re-paints, but doing all the background work is also important. I leart by harrasing Vulcan for the most part. It looks daunting, but it really isn't. It's a few lines of text. You just have to make sure you capture them all.

Hopefully by broadcasting information like this we can leave Ian in peace to do his much more important work of new models. As I mentioned, in a previous post, I am writing a guide to Vulcan re-paints & hope to post it on a Trainz blog sooner or later.

Cheers

Rob

Thanks Rob, I'm glad you liked them. I just noticed that the grey belly on the 747 from its Lufthansa livery still survives, and I neglected to put that on the A380, this has been fixed now.

Thanks for the info about configs. I did change the username and image and stuff, but that is as far as my knowledge of configs goes and I would not have been able to make the other modifications myself. Unfortunately, I tried removing the "icon0" from the config file via CCP and now it is telling me "Error: Failed to commit changes to asset <kuid:345204:100456> due to file access error" - would you happen to know how to fix this? Everything else seems to be in order.

EDIT: Never mind - I noticed, after reading through the info on p. 173 that were two occurences of icon0 in the older config files and that I had only deleted one. Now that both are gone the model's fine.

EDIT 2: OK, after making the changes to the config files I am basically ready to upload the two models to the DLS. Unfortunately, when I import it into the upload que and press 'upload' I get this message for the A380 (and a similar one for the 747):

Error: Asset <kuid:-10:149> is built-in.
Error: Asset <kuid:-3:10110> is built-in.
Error: Asset <kuid:-3:10112> is built-in.
Error: Asset <kuid:-3:11060> is built-in.
Error: Asset <kuid2:60238:51019:1> is already on the download station.
Error: Asset <kuid2:60238:53012:1> is already on the download station.
Error: Asset <kuid2:60238:54021:2> is already on the download station.
Error: Asset <kuid2:60238:55015:2> is already on the download station.

I have no idea what this means, as this is my first time uploading stuff to the DLS. And, for that matter, how do you upgrade the config files of scenery objects? Sorry for asking all these questions, lol

Newly delivered Boeing 777-300ER of TAM setting off on a clear night for the trip back to Sao Paulo from Heathrow. Thanks Rob725 !

I have hopefully now got new signalling up and running though still hiccups and rebellious AI pilots. I don't understand why TS12 would make a difference but I've ended up stripping out much of the ATLS signalling that worked OK in TS2010 and replaced with conventional invisible signalling.

I'm now turning my attention to jetways/airbridges - at present I am using actual Heathrow arrival and departure times and actual gate numbers on a Friday last July. In the real world, a Finnair narrow body uses a A.380 stand or a BAe146 uses a 737/320 stand which then looks silly against the airbridge for that stand. I'm wondering if anyone out there is on the point of producing an adjustable airbridge that would respond to train categories 1/2/3. - or indeed if anyone can tell me in simple steps how to go about producing one myself (I have the patience from modelling but no technical know how for computer modelling)

Failing that I am going to re-schedule all movements so that as far as possible the same type of aircraft use the same gates with suitably positioned airbridges.

It might be a good idea to wipe the driver setup completely and start again from scratch anyway - the file that holds this info must be thoroughly roughed up with the number of changes to times, routes and aircraft that I've made despite very frequent de-frags. Might be why the AI pilots are getting rebellious. Does anyone have an opinion on whether best to use about 300 aircraft each doing between 1 and 5 visits (as now) or, if I re-schedule, use about 650 aircraft so that each would have just one visit then be "dead" when that visit is completed?

I am still interested in the jetways that Pascal found and I'm wondering if I can help him bring these along.

Slowly getting towards the stage where I will release my route onto the DLS for anyone interested so long as it is understood that there will still be a lot of development work to do.

My thanks again to everyone who has contributed aircraft (and other assets) used on this route.

Bob

Freightcar2 - Nice to see you in this aircraft repaint business!

About your problem: may be you made a cdp file incorporating all dependancies? You should upload only the aircraft alone.
One point for the Lufthansa A380: There is one already existing, a repaint of Vulcan's model by Proconfaust. Accurate and available here:
http://ecsjoko.eu//infusions/pro_download_panel/search.php?stext=a380

Bob, I should post today addresses to dl different jetways. Those I know are all static.
Making an adjustable airbridge is interesting, and may be feasible, but we have no system today to recognize a plane category A, B or C.

Pascal

Edit: Bob, you have a private message.

Sorry Pascal - I should have said "that would respond to train priority 1/2/3".

Bob

Have got the jetways up - not quite sure how this worked but.... the 747 and 320 look fine and will have a play around with them but the 380 serves the right hand side of the aircraft. If I go into media fire will I find more to try out and will I be able to download them for myself?

All for now - going to do another couple hours in the garden.

Me again Pascal - have found loads of interesting stuff on Google Sketchup for different aircraft types including ones described as "moveable". Also the A.380 jetway appears to be LH loading - either the picture is wrong or somehow the one downloaded from your link has got inverted to RH loading.

Although I have downloaded several files such as jetway 737.skp I don't seem to be able to open them. Paint doesn't work and Content Manager doesn't appear as an option to use. Can you tell me how to get all the models onto my route so I can play around with them all?

The 747 and 319/320 already downloaded are fine so far as height and size concerned though the entire length is too long for many of the gates but maybe there are shorter versions amongst all the stuff on Sketchup.

Bob

Bob,

You need to install Sketchup, of course, then instal the plug-ins Ruby TMIX, made by ModelerMJ.
You have a specific thread in this forum, in the Freeware section, and the site adress for the DL is: http://www.dhobh.net/trainz
Carefully read and apply the instuctions! It's not staightforward.

The skp files must be open inside Ruby TMIX. The plug-ins will convert the model to a trainz asset.

I'm not uploading a CDP file, I'm uploading it directly from Content Manager.

I noticed that that one doesn't have the grey belly and engines, similar to what was the case on mine before I added them in. Oh well.

[QUOTE

Have gone into thread and downloaded sketchup8 but can't download PEV's Trainz Mesh Viewer - "can't find page" message

Reading the pdf it looks very complicated to me and I've had it for today. I still work one day a week and that's tomorrow and family on Wed so will start again with fresh mind on Thu but not very confident.

The skp files must be open inside Ruby TMIX.

Do you mean the .skp files should be located in the Ruby TMIX folder?

Bob

Bob
PEV's sofwares are here: http://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tut...d-party-trainz-utilities/pevsoft-trainz-tools
You need to put your .skp file inside a folder with the same name, and this folder inside Ruby TMIX folder.

Freightcar2:
For your upload troubles, you should give more details..
The most important, I think, for any repaint is the documentation. You will find on the Net many websites who offer airplanes pictures, to get the true liveries.

These new repaints have been accepted by the DLS and should be available soon:

An Airbus A330-200 of the French air force, mainly used for the French government travels: nickname "Air Sarko One"

And an Airbus A319 of Croatia Airlines.

Well, when I find the aircraft which I wish to upload to the internet within content manager, I right click on it and select 'upload', and it's put into the uploader que. However, when I press 'upload' then it gives me the error message, proclaiming that all of its dependencies are already on the DLS.

I've tried to keep the A380 as accurate as possible, yes. Here it is in its current form compared to the real aircraft.

Some other reskins I'm going to try include the British Airways A380 and Emirates 777-300ER. The 777 might be a bit of a problem, what with all the fancy calligraphy and whatnot.

Loving the KLM 777 by the way, the more KLM aircraft, the merrier.
