New Aircraft

Part of my Heathrow model originally based on Stagecoach's version on the DLS. Taken some messing about to get this on here - why can't we just attach a pic as in an e-mail? Obviously still haven't got this right as can't write anything under the pic. Nor is it very clear if the preview is anything to go off. Maybe I've tried to get too much on.

However - Terminal 3 with the mid morning huddle of Virgins (yes they are painted in Qantas colours but that's just to confuse BA ). Note the 2 "genuine" Qantas 380's parked up by the storage tanks waiting their return gates for Oz.

Ian's newly created Thai 340-600 on a 380 gate and in the background one of the new 777-300's of BA coming down from T5 and heading for 27R hold.

Several of Rob's Air Canada 777-200's are on gate. Also note a number of American DC-10's masquerading as 777's. Sorry Pascal but can't see any of your latest goodies but they are around somewhere!

Based on July 2012 timetable when T5 fully operational and T2 partly operational during reconstruction.

On the point of ripping out all my ATLS signals and starting again - very frustrating.

Bob,

The forum can be a bit of a trial at times.

It would be nice to just attach a photo to the post, but I guess N3V are trying to avoid needing more hardware to store stupid amounts of screen shots & photos. The solution is to store the screen shots on another platform. I use Photbucket. There are others you could use, but you need to find one that allows you to copy a "Direct Link".

As far as what you have to do to write a forum post.....
Very frustrating! Especially where there are screen shots involved.
I find that I have to add some text & maybe a screeny (link), then post. Having done that I go back & edit the post, then save. Repeat, frustrate, repeat.
I also find that if you click the button on the far left of the tool bar (switch editor to source code) you can be much more successful with the format of the post. Usually this needs to be after you've posted the first time.
The other helpful hint is to let the "Auto-save" pop up before you post. This means that if it fails (and it often does) you can go back & click on "Restore saved content" and not loose everything.

Like I said. A bit of a trial....

Hope that helps.

I'm getting closer with the American Airlines B777. Vulcan has given me a super shiny model so now it's up to me to clean up the texture file and make it work. It will take a few days because it isn't a stock standard skin. I promise to make it worth the wait. You'll be able to replace all those DC-10s....

Thanks for that Rob - looking forward to some shiny metal!

Yes I can see the amount of storage needed would be colossal - hopefully the next time (IF) it will be easier. Some of the hassle was actually joining Imageshack and getting my screenshot uploaded onto there then only getting thumbnail images.

Well, Bob, when I saw your Virgin fleet with the Kangaroo tail, I decided to do something for you..!

So this is the Boeing 747-41R of Virgin Atlantic Airways, new livery since 2010:

Also, an A319-131 of British Airways, standard livery.

The A319 is already available at the DLS, the B747 should follow after 48 hours.

The jetways you can see on the first pic are coming from the Google Sketchup librairy.
They look nice and are exactly to scale with our airplanes. Problem, they count between 10000 and 20000 polys each.
Not recommended if you put several in line.
I can upload them, if you are interested in, or better put them on mediafire for testing.
There are here 3 sizesfor A320, B747, A380. Others are available.

Pascal

Hi Pascal - beginning to get a really authentic feel. These two will make a massive difference to appearance, much appreciated. The existing BA 319's (and there are a lot of them) don't look right when the're all in the Dove livery - I will keep 3 or 4 of them though. I didn't include BA A320 in my list because I'm using the 737-400 which doesn't look too out of place - but if you want to .... :hehe:

The Virgin 747 means the demise of Qantas 747's in my fleet - very sad - now gone the way of the Kiwi 747's with the arrival of the 777!

As for the jetways, they look good and is the sort of thing I am looking for, but although TS12 seems to be giving me better draw distances and frame rates I am very wary of overloading things. I don't want any more problems until I get my signalling repaired - I won't load SP1 yet for instance. My AI pilots sometimes get grumpy and do silly things but are not consistant on a re-run so I'm thinking my processor is getting borderline.

I would certainly re-equip a small area to try them out if you can upload them. The 3 sizes you mention should be adequate - maybe also a 767 size if available. I'm not familiar with mediafire (never heard the name) but if you think that would be better then I will try them if you tell me what to do.

This is where I would like to get a better understanding - why does an object like the jetway with nowhere near the same amount of detail that goes into one of your aircraft take such a large number of polys ?(the unmber of individual flexible triangles that stitch together to make a shape? - as I understand it)

Many thanks again
Bob

Nice work, Bob, good to see Heathrow alive!

My next repaints are, may be, not visiting Heathrow's hub frequently: A340 from Lufthansa and Swiss, or B777 from KLM.
But I still have your list on my desk..

As previously announced, here are 2 representatives of the Star Alliance:

Just uploaded to DLS.

How about try it yourself? You did request things somewhat rudely, with no 'please' and no pictures

...

Jamie

Easy guys. Let's not escalate please. Remember this is a forum site & (as with e-mails) sometimes the written word doesn't always come across as it was intended.

As far as the request goes... The Tui falls under Pascal's jurisdiction so he can answer that one. I agree, the new wavy livery is a bit tricky.

The re-skin/re-paint concept isn't that difficult as such but there are quite a few things that have to be done to do one properly (such as giving correct acknowledgement to Vulcan and making sure asset descriptions & asset names make sense). You also kind of need have to have a bit of artistic talent (not that I do) to make them look right. It's not for everyone.

In my spare time (???) I've been writing a "Dummies guide to Re-skins" that I will post on a blog or forum at some point to hopefully encourage others to give it a go. Keep in mind that Pascal & myself have quite different ways of going about the same exercise.

Why not give it a try? If it fails, at least it shows you are willing to try yourself. And your first re-skin is a very rewarding experience!

I already have done reskinning, but you guys evidently haven't seen the new Thomson livery. It is incredibly complicated and best left to experts like Rob & Pascal. I also find it funny how you don't pick up on the other request me, Robert38a and others have made.

as far as the debate goes, your both right. I understand reskinning can be hard so you may offer, but the way you did so was not appropriate, but on the other hand, they will not always be able to get to your request so you may have to give it a try anyway.
