The worst rivet-counter I ever met was an individual who approached me one day as I was checking the lamps on the front of a preserved BR 4-MT. He informed me that the pattern of rivets on the buffer-beam was 'incorrect', according to some model he had. I did not bother to reply and he wandered off toward the cab, where I could just hear him making some sort of remark. The 4-MT had an all-female footplate crew that day, and I gather the remark was something to do with 'women drivers'. I stepped back on to the platform just in time to see the fireman's shovel emerge from the cab and whack him smartly scross the shoulders....
