Midwest Grain & PVR: Continue it?

OK, I think what I will do now is the following. I will do one more PVR content pack for the MWG which will be a variety of mainly power, bigger stuff like SD45's, SD45M's, SD40-2's, SD50's, as well as an 80 & 90MAC and possibly 1 or 2 new items none of you have seen yet. I really like the idea of transforming a version of the MWG into a steam era typr route... I will talk with some of our guys and see what we can come up with. I really appreciate all of the feedback, it helps to understand what you guys would lile to see!

Thanks!

Mike

Could you maybe throw in some f7s and coaches for a business train? Just an idea.

I really hope a steam era PVR goes through. A great place to run those recently released grain carrying equipped boxcars.

Yeah Steam Era PVR is looking better and better. This will require a content change over as well as a ton of new things to be built. But I like the thought of a transition era route that will allow you to run both.

Thanks

Mike

I love that transition era idea too. That would allow you to use a bunch of diesels you already have (F7, RS-1, S-2, BLW S12) along with some awesome Lilb steamers! So those people not into steam would benefit as well.
And furthermore thanks to Deane and Kree8tivit there are plenty of good looking 1950s road vehicles, whereas good 1930s or 1940s stuff is rare.

The route is great but I think you should move onto some other things. I would like to see like a Trans-con like route. One like the UP Overland route out of North Platte, NE- Sidney, NE including the Bailey Yard. That alone should keep you busy for the next 20 years of trainz!

It does seem like most of the stuff is already geared towards, or can be readily adapted to, the immediate post-WWII era rather than prewar or wartime. I forgot about the Baldwin locomotive you guys made. Actually, now that I think of it a PVR set during WWII would be pretty awesome too. Those troop trains simulatortrain posted renders of a few weeks ago rolling past "BUY WAR BONDS" emblazoned boxcars. Sherman tanks moving to ports on lilb's flatcars. Oh yeah, you could spend years adding on to the Midwest Grain route without plopping down a single new baseboard.

Yes and I think this could become a problem!! LOL

No kidding. The thing I like about MWG, as opposed to a prototypical route, is that I can run it any way I please with few restrictions. It's generic enough that pretty much any modern US Class 1 wouldn't look out of place interchanging on it, but detailed enough to provide real character and ambience to the route. If you look at some of the great fictional prototypical model railroads they give the same character to their lines. It's more than just slapping some reporting marks on a loco and calling yourself the CEO. I'm sure you'd have people lining up the door if you guys released a prototypical route with the same quality, but it'd be a real shame to toss the little PVR into the dustbin when there is so much left it has to give.

Here is my idea for what you should do. Put MWG on the back burner for now and move on to something else for say a year then you can come back to sometime in 2015 for the WWII and transition era versions. I would also suggest for the new route to be a east coast route maybe do Allentown to Harrisburg area route (You got Kevin, he can do railfanning\research trips!) Anything Conrail, CSX, NS or even freelanced would be AWESOME.
just my 0.02 cents

How about the P&WV? It's an overlooked railroad, but it would provide for some interesting sessions, with the scenery, the single track operation, and the small size of the railroad. Or maybe the AC&Y? the AC&Y is also largely overlooked. Both of them, especially the P&WV were busy during WWII and through the transition era. Both railroads largely used FM locomotives, and both railroads interchanged with major Class Is. You guys already have P&WV cabooses, so that's a start right there!
EDIT: I also seem to recall seeing some P&WV H-20-44s somewhere around here...

Heres a question for you mike, do you prefer freelanced so you can do your own thing? Or would you like to try and follow a prototype?

This might be a bit out of the box and a bit of a stretch, but how about bringing to Trainz some of the Great Model Railroad layouts?

Ohio Southern

Virginia and Ohio

Allegheny Midland.

Assuming of course the original owners give permission.

EDIT:The Clinchfield would be cool to see with the JR flair.....

EDIT 2: I need to add the amplifying info of: Build them like they were a real railroad.

I suggested the same thing in the Model Railroadz thread. Allegheny Midland first!

Missed one:

Model Railroader' Milwaukee, Racine and Troy.

True, but the problem is that right now model railroadz are limited to a single level, and the Milwaukee, Racine and Troy has a double-deck staging yard, which is impossible to recreate currently.

Um, why build it as a model railroad?

I was suggesting build it as it as if they were real routes.
