Nice! Should the word "Trainz" be in there somewhere? Just askin'.

Sure, why not? I'm focused mainly on the 1920's right now, but have been drug back 50 years or so before that with little-to-no provocation.

Curtis

Don't feel obliged to use the name or the graphic, I wanted to do something besides watch Trainz crash when I edit splines, so I diverted to this for a little bit...

Yayz for Fallout guy!
Quick thing: you might get in trouble with the character you used in the logo.
Besides that, I want to say good luck and clear track to you guys!
:)

Might, might not, it's a freely available vector graphic of Vault Boy from Deviant Art, not content from the game.

As our first group effort, can we VOTE on and agree to a name?

Hmm, been thinking about the name, and allthough I like frogpipe's logo, I think 'midcentury' is a little vague as an indication of what's implied.

However if we change that to 'Vintage Modelers Association', what would broaden the aim as well as describing its members, I would be happy with that.

Then there's of course the spelling of the word 'modeler'. Both 'modeler' and 'modeller' seem to be permitted. (looking at an online dictionairy) Personally I would go for 'modeller' with two l's, but maybe that my european english view on the matter.

Greetings from nighttime Amsterdam,

Jan

Good points, Jan. What about something like 'Early Rail' or 'Early Trainz'?

IMHO, I'd like to see a focus on earlier than WW2; maybe even WW1 - but I don't think there are many that model that early....

Frogpipe! That last iteration is outstanding! It's complete with a logo, but let's call it a herald to keep things antique, has a touch of art deco and lacks any geographical bias emphasizing that the group is global. I'll keep the list of names growing but if it is not selected by acclamation I'll be surprised! Good thought.

Bernie

PS: it does occur to me that we already have one lady who has expressed interest in our group. Would it be a good idea to substitute the obviously male thumbs up guy with some other icon, a switchman's lantern perhaps, that wouldn't have a sexual or geographical bias? I think we want to cast our net wide, no?

Hi Steamboateng,

In an earlier post Scott said he intends to have a vote sometime this coming weekend. That's one reason I am trying to keep a list, so that there are no omissions of any of the excellent suggestions that have been coming in.

Bernie

Decided to delete this post as it was just about the past editions of Trainz, etc and the changes in Trainz, configurations, etc. Barry.

The illustration is meant to be of the midcentury vintage, which means a male like that or a female like... well...

So that was my thinking, but I can either alter it or defer to someone else.

Let me make clear, I was just noodling while letting my rage cool off at Trainz crashing while I was editing splines.

Meanwhile, I made these thingys

frogpipe_20130404_0000_zpsac59a0cc.jpg

Flangeways for "paved" crossings. Dunno about other places, but these appear often in Baltimore where I came from. There is a special shaped rail lining the inside to form a clear channel next to the rail and the rest is just paved. No rubber, wood, or anything else. Found on sidings and yards, not on main lines.

Of course tracks on a street benefit from these as well, but I think it would get tiresome laying them in surveyor.

Hi Frogpipe,

Small but important details like flangeways are the kinds of things can make a difference. Looks like something extremely useful, especially if one is modeling railroading when rails buried in streets were common. Looks nice. Will you be releasing it on the DLS? What else do you have up your sleeve?:D

Bernie

Feel free to reskin any model of mine currently on DLS as long as created goes were it's due you may upload to your site or DLS.

Yeah. At the moment, nothing... I just wanted this because I have a need for it where I have rails buried in a street. :D

They will be:

Flangeway Pair,<kuid:204652:100698>
Flangeway Single,<kuid:204652:100670>

Should be on the DLS in a few days, assuming the BOT doesn't die.
