Looking For A New Group To Form

Sorry for the late reply as I am a second shifter...so I'm MIA on the weekday evenings.

My goal now is to get together folks with similar interests and start some projects based on those interests. I think the problem with me is that there seems to be very few people that I communicate with the same interests as me, so without communication and sharing thoughts and ideas about the hobby it has become a bit boring. I know there has to be some other folks out there that feel the same. It time to try to get them together if I can.

I'm going to try to stay away from the content creator debate because it 's been covered in the "Were Are All The Content Creators" thread. I will say that Barry is right, it is harder now to create content and a lot of the "old timers" have left and quit creating content. One thing that I want to do with this group is to pass the content creation information to other people that want to learn.

Here is a short list of active creator that have an open invitation to join this group if they want too.

dricketts
bendorsey
n8phu
PWeiser
leeferr
frogpipe
dinorius_redundicus
euphod
whitepass-(already beat me to the punch and posted).

Although there are many younger Trainzers who model in the old Eastern and Mid-west road names, most only know CSX, Conrail, BNSF, NS, SP & etc.

That is also the discription of most payware sections now a days. Now that's fine if that is what one is into, but I want to see some fallen flag stuff!

I went through a glossary of railroad slang and came up with a few suggestions for names for the group. These are in no particular order, and only intended to draw suggestions from others.

Association of Ancient Railroaders (AAR?)
Brotherhood of Boomers and Bindle Stiffs
Gods of Iron Interest Group
Old Hands’ Trainz Ring
Vscalers with Whiskers

I'm old, but I'm still new to TRAINZ. I have spent so many nights this winter reading the old and new posts and I think I've got a handle on where you veterans came from...how hard you worked to keep it all going, for the love of railroads and the love of this 'game'. I feel sad that I might have 'come to the party' too late. Your post gives me some hope however, that old folks and old railroads can survive the new ways of a new world and a new game (my gosh how can someone SEE to run a route on a smart phone... I can barely see my route-making on a huge monitor with reading specs). I also see that that are more than a few young whipersnappers out there, with a lot to offer if given a chance and direction from those in the know. I do not create content (yet), but I am making a route that consumes me on an 8 hour + a day basis. I do not know what I could add at this point to the game or to your group except a willingness to learn and a real love of this 'game' and old railroads. If you think I could help at all (I'm pretty good at internet research of old photos/maps and the like), count me in. I really like Bernie's 1st two suggestions for the name of your group. Keep fighting the good fight..... there would be no REAL steam locomotives left, on any track in this world, if those few lovers of old railroads hadn't kept fighting. Rebecca

These are all pretty good names! My fav is Old Hands' Trainz Ring. Keep a list of these names, and any more you can think of and we can have vote on it.

Great post and thanks, you've been added to the list.

Hi Rebecca,

I'm responding to you because your description of yourself sounds a lot like me.:hehe:

"Keep fighting the good fight...."

I'm sure LWVRR would ask, "Why don't you join it?" I hope his idea takes off. I'm really looking forward to his reaction to the response he is getting and a little more detail on his plans. Hope you stick around for it.

Bernie

Hi LWVRR,

My response to Rebecca crossed your last two posts. Wasn't trying to steal your thunder but her post struck a chord.

I will be noting a few more proposed names and will post them when I have accumulated a few more.

I,m over 40 and liked trainz for 9 years now, loved railroads back when i was a kid & walked the tracks with a track inspector a short dist. I think the form and trainz instress have dropped sents 12 came out and not fixed any of the problems. as far as the form goes i think that if N3V was to fix the search so people could fine post then there wouldn't be so many repost asking what been already asked.
I to are about to give up with trainz,i will join and hope that this will fire me up again.
Thanks for brining this up.

Welcome aboard, I've added you name to the list.

If this goes through and enough people want to join, I'll be launching this group by this weekend.

Are you 40+?
Are you a fan of old school railroading?
Do you feel you can contribute to the cause in any way?

Then post below and join the group.

First order of business...name the group!

I am 15 soon to be 16.
I am knowledgeable when it comes to old school railroading.
I am a horn maker and I can do some reskins as well

can I get in on this?

Wow you are a youngin', but I don't want to turn anybody away that is interested in this so I'll add your name to the list.

For what it's worth, my suggestion for the name of the group: "Golden Age Trainz by Golden Age Trainzers". I'm interested in, if not joining the group, working closely with it. I've got a couple of (large) Works in progress that fit the theme pretty well. Too address the issue of a lack of old time routes in modern Trainz, I'm working on a full scale version or the NP branch from Spokane, WA to Lewisville, ID, as it existed in its Golden age, in the 1900's. Older, smaller steam, smaller rail cars, etc. I've also just begun preliminary work exploring a Trainz route of part of the Pochohontas subdivision of the N&W, the lines in KY and VA known as the Buchanan branch. In the same time period as my interest in the Spokane line, 1900's, the Buchanan Branch was a narrow guage operation, but in the 1920's it was purchased by N&W and the 1920's, and widened, and is now the Buchanan Branch. Examination of the 1917 era Metawin Quad show other, shorter lines in the same area, which no longer exist. It's occurred to me that perhaps there might be a way to get paid for some Trainz efforts, by working with local historical societies, and using Trainz to reconstruct some of the lines which have been pulled up because they are no longer profitable.

Otherwise, my current content WIP is an overpass / underpass inspired by 1930's era cast concrete bridges; they are not yet in game, but if you're interested in screen shots,

One thing I'd hope, if this group does get going, by whatever name, is that there not be a competely separate forum. Instead, I think we should request a subforum to handle support and request issues. Despite those who have taken issue with the N3V forums in the past, I don't really feel myself, that it's all that bad a place, and I really feel that having separate forums for every third party site really splinters a community which may be too small to begin with.

ns

That looks close to a bidge that is needed on the Laurel Line Project.

Once everybody is together we can discuss the direction the group will go. For right now...write down all your ideas.

The bridge itself is fairly small, extending from the blue "x" in the roadway up and to the right in the first picture. The portion to the left of the blue x is a separate approach. Picture 1 is intended as an elevated rail line over a two lane undivided highway at grade; in picture two, the railroad is at grade, and the highway has been excavated. Mix and match; one can pair the approach shown in picture on one side of the track with the underpass approach of picture 2 on the other side, and custom elements will be, by the by, available.

Well I definitly qualify for the old part as I am approaching 60 with the throttle all the way back.

Not sure what I can contribute as I do not make buildings or textures etc... I can do TransDEM, the latest I have is the North Central route part of the PRR from Baltamore to Sunberry PA and I extended it to Williamsport but I have not done anything lately as I am involved in a multi player group.

Having a sincere interest in all things 'old.............er' I would would like to participate. Currently building two separate routes set in the '50's; including a difficult Hoosac Tunnel route. Don't know what I could contribute, being mostly involved with route building, mapping, TransDEM and research. My content creation skills (Blender) are awkward at best. However, I wouldn't mind getting involved in the exchange of ideas and information regarding old fashioned Trainzers coping with a 'modern' world.

Here is the proposed name list as it stands now, with a few more from me:

Association of Ancient Railroaders (AAR?)
Brotherhood of Boomers and Bindle Stiffs
Gods of Iron Interest Group
Old Hands’ Trainz Ring
Vscalers with Whiskers
Heritage Railroading Modelers
Railroad Heritage Preservation Society
Smoke Orders

and an excellent suggestion from Mjolnir:

Golden Age Trainz by Golden Age Trainzers

I think all ideas would be welcome.

Bernie
