Layers in 2010

Has anybody worked out how to use layers in TS2010? Is there a tutorial somewhere?

Layers are probably a great idea and I can see the potential, but how exactly to make use of them?

All tips welcome!

Be careful when working with layers.
They are quite useful in developing routes for multiple seasons, or other scenarios where you want different objects to appear in different sessions.

But, if you are working in Surveyor, and unknowingly placing trees on the track layer (I use different layers for track, flora, etc), they you'll defeat the purpose of using them.
Of course, your route will work fine regardless of what layer things are on, but if you want to create scenarios that use different objects, you need to be aware of what layers you are using.

Unfortunately, there is no indication of the current layer in Surveyor without having the layer tab open or clicking on properties for the object.
I have made several mistakes in this way, but getting the feel for layers now I don't make so many mistakes.

As for tutorials, I think you should check out the links provided, and do a lot of experimenting.

Have fun!

Until there is a menu bar indicator to remind us what the current active layer is, I find that locking all but the current layer helps prevent working in the wrong one. I too keep different types of objects in different layers, signals in one, switches in another, guides in a third, etc. That way I can safely work on one set without any risk of disturbing the rest.

Thanks for that reminder. I forgot I could lock the layers.:o
