layers

for the last 3+ hours i have tried to fix the layer invasion. texture grid squares have encroached on both the track and roads. i don't use layers so why do i now have them messing up the game?
i had a similar problem with the legacy water but that only happened on one route. this is on all routes which includes Tidewater from TRS 2004,which didn't have layers. didn't have a problem when downloaded but i have the problem.
i actually have even seen pink and purple trying to fix the problem and have gotten to square one with the paint squares overlapping the road and track splines .
thank you if you know how to fix this

thank you stagecoach. checked it out to find the PBR is the problem. if used around track or road then you will have a problem.
i really don't like layers and that is the reason i don't use them
thanks again

i have several really large routes to fix so i guess i will be busy.
PS i wasn't really crazy about the legacy water. couldn't out to use it and it looked like used oil. i deleted the game and reinstalled it over again. i am not ridiculing the author but i am still reading that i wasn't the only one.
once again thank you.

Not to pile on but layers can be your best friend, especially when building a route. By putting different objects on separate layers, they can be selectively locked and or hidden so they don't get in the way when working near them. I always put the tracks, buildings and trees on their own layers plus a layer for guides and other Surveyor related stuff that doesn't need to appear when driving.

PBR textures are a mixed blessing. On the plus side they bring the missing 3rd dimension to textures so, for example, rocky ground can have the appearance of actual 3D stones and rocks. For this reason alone, PBR textures are my preferred choice.

On the negative side (and this is shared by all games/sims that use them) they do not play well with non-PBR textures and can have issues (some call the effect "jellyfish guts") at places where there are sudden and steep changes in terrain heights. I sometimes use vegetation in some of those places to hide that issue.

On the matter of layers - I consider them to be the greatest invention since "sliced bread" (analogy intended). My current route under development has over 30 of them but that will be cut down a bit when the final version is released. They can even be used in Driver, where there is a Hide/Show Layer driver command, to bring extra novelty into a session.

You can disable this effect by setting your Shader quality setting to Basic located in the Performance tab in Trainz Settings.

This will also disable the aforementioned jellyfish guts and holes in the terrain under non-PBR assets. The disadvantage is the loss of 3d-effect with rocks, gravel, and trees. To be honest, some of this can be a bit overkill in some instances and disabling the effect is a blessing.

thank you john. that has saved a lot of time. the Cumberland and Connellsville route was taking tons of time to repair the holes and them the ballast running up the hills trying to remove the holes under the track. still have some under the roads but minor compared to what i had before.
at least i didn't have to redo the game like i had to do with the legacy water. not to criticize but it didn't really look that good and i couldn't control it.
whatever thanks again
