John Lennon – if Google can do it so can Trainz

A couple in Weston-super-Mare, a couple in N Luffenham, a good bunch In Berlin, Germany, one in Aden, one in Bahrain, so long ago I dont remember the names .....

I was being facetious with that comment, I know you were in the RAF, you told me some time ago. Probably around the same time as you were in the RAF, or maybe later, I was 600 to 1000 ft under the N. Atlantic in HM nuclear subs.

RAF personel were always refered to as 'crabfats' when I was in the RN. I still don't know where that expression comes from, could you, if possible, enlighten me please?

I presume you're joking as John Lennon was never going to be eligible to become president of the USA.

John Lennon was seen as a major threat to the America Government, a world famous pop icon, known the world over, if he ran for office, most of America would have voted for him, John Lennon wanted peace and all weapons to be disarmed including nuclear weapons, this would have made the USA vulnerable to the rest of the world, to the FBI, he was a danger, and needed to be taken out.

The above was what a friend of mine told me, as he studied the days of John Lennon, it is in my mind only a conspiracy theory, but for some John Lennon fans, they believe the above is true, especially here in Liverpool in his home town.

I'm with you on this amigacooke, I cannot see how John Lennon would make President as he is not American, however it is claimed Barrack Obama is not American either, so maybe John Lennon might have had a chance after all.

1. I highly doubt he would have gotten enough votes in 1980 or later to be dog catcher, let alone president; and

2. A nuke ban would never have made it through Congress, let alone a full demilitarization.

I'm not going to try and quote everyone in here, so I'll just rant from memory. So yeah, my Yoko comment was kind of a rotten thing to say, but so far no one blasted me for it, and a few even added to the picking on Yoko Oh No.

John had some serious talent, but I agree with the person who said he seemed angry and bitter, especially later in the Beatles career, and his solo stuff. I'm a life long Beatle nut, so John comes with the package. He was a funny guy in the early days.

I think Jim said he was really only a fan of George's post Beatle career, and I can almost agree with that. I do like some of Paul's Wings stuff, and his RAM album before wings is one of my favorites. George was simply a beautiful soul, and he really came into his own as a songwriter and guitarist late in the Beatles gig. I love his solo work, and even the posthumous "Brainwashed", which was finished by his son and Jeff Lynn is an amazing album. Also, the Travelling Wilburys were awesome. Poor Ringo. Not a lot I can get into by him after the Beatles, but he is a seriously underrated drummer, and one of the premier HEAVY drummers. Wanna bash Ringo? Let's fight.

I really think the White Album is the most over glorified turd the Beatles ever put out. I go through phases where I want to hear the early stuff, when they were a rowdy bar band, then I go through my Sgt. Pepper/Abbey Road kick. I used to steal my dad's records when I was 3 or 4 and play them on my Sesame Street record player, the kind that played when you shut the lid. Needless to say, I had a pretty good record collection after scratching up my dad's Beatles and Black Sabbath albums on that thing. Then I got the "how to take care of your records" lesson, and soon I became my dad's first stereo remote control record swapper.

What does this have to do with Trainz? I have no clue. Someone baited me with Beatle stuff and I responded.

I agree with you too RRSignal, I think it's all hokus pokus, conspiracy theorists always want something to cling too...

Just a bit of fun, secret messages in The Beatles songs when played backwards... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UVDlg4x468

I never much cared for the "Fab Four" but they did put out a few very good songs. One of them was "Revolution" (I think that's the name) but I never really apreciated it's meaning until the last 20 months. :o

When Ginger Baker and Mitch Mitchell came along it, they were getting all the press, and for good reason.
I think Ringo's drumming on Abbey Road gave him credibility for being a "heavy" drummer, and then came John Bonham, continuing to raise the bar. I think Bonzo was about as heavy as it gets. England sure turned out some good drummers, eh?
Ainsley Dunbar..... man!

McCartney's RAM album was good, I'd forgotten about that one. Monk berry Moon Delight!

Bonzo is my messiah. My kit is Tama, but it's all Bonzo inspired. Little drumset made out of giant drums.

We need a music forum here since so many of us play and listen to good stuff. Where else can we go?

Good question.....let me know if you find something. Tama makes good drums, for sure. Rogers, Ludwig..good stuff. Sounds like we have some similar musical tastes. Traveling Wilburys gave me hope that good music can still exist :)

Guys, please keep the political discussions, etc out of this. If unsure, please consult the code of conduct.

The original post was to pay remembrance to an unfortunate event (the death of a fellow person, and to a musician), and to highlight a feature that was available in TRS2004 (not sure if this function is still available, don't think so).

This is not the place to post conspiracies nor political views.

Thanks :)

If this a free, democratic forum, whether political, personal or otherwise then let people make comments, however controversial, as they wish. People at this very moment are giving up their lives for democracy and freedom, e.g. British soldiers in Afghanistan!

I am at somewhat at a lost to see the point of such a thread on a Forum for a train simulator.

I have always liked the Beatles as a group and still have a single and LP collection - indeed I have now purchased a turntable that allows me to transfer from the vinyl to cd or pc. Yes, I liked John Lennon's contribution especially to the Beatles but have never taken to over subscribe to this icon almost fetish we tend to get for singers. As much as I liked him as a singer and musician that is all I see him as. Too many have read too much into him and this status thing. He was not a politician, religious leader or whatever and I fear that too many get carried away with the notion he was something else in the world. In fact he changed little if anything and in later life became woolly, abstract and at times caused head scratching and puzzlement.

He had a terrible and sad end but in everyday terms as to how the world or any country is run he had zilch. If we fall into this emotional area we will start getting the Trainz Forum full of such stuff. It is at the end of day about trains, railways and not about singers or anything else.

No, they're giving their lives for big business, oil and power. This will be my one and only political post.
Mick Berg.

Whether you say they give their services and potentialy their lives for big business etc. or for democracy, they do it, and it should be recognized as so.

Hi rjhowie

~snip~ I am at somewhat at a lost to see the point of such a thread on a Forum for a train simulator. ~snip

Having started the thread, I’ll say why I started it.

TRS2004 has a piece of code in it which changes the colours of the screen in Surveyor when you type Alt<lucy in the sky>.

The song also has references to station, trains and porters.

It just seemed appropriate for Trainz.

Doesn’t look as if it’s in later versions from what I thought Zec said (has that been edited?)

Wish I hadn’t bothered now.

@ Motorbreath & JimDep. I’m up for a music linkup here (unlikely) or elsewhere. Buddy Rich fan! Your finest export.

There's another trains/Beatles link - didn't Ringo do the narration in Thomas the Tank Engine?

I never bought a Beatles record, because you heard them all the time on the radio and every party you went to. Over-exposure I think. I actually preferred John Lennon's songs written after the Beatles dissolved; songs like Cold Turkey, Mother, Yer Blues etc had an edge to them that I really liked. Bitter, sure, but I prefer that to saccharine.
