Is Trainz going American?

I agree, with Kamran. Too much, BR crap. Personally, they should just released a version for the US, Canada, & Mexico with North American locomotives. A UK verison for BR locos. A AU version for Austrailia, etc. etc. That way, everyone would be happy.

I'd prefer using DLS an not complaining

Besides, that's be very costly

I live in Australia, but I love British locos and rolling stock. It would be very sad for me if all I could get here in Aus was the Aussie version, as I would long for the British version. I'm sure this applies to others too.

Just my 5 cents worth.

If you want British steam buy TS2010 and the Settle & Carlisle add on pack. Paul Hobbs has made a new A3 for SnC and skipper1945 is currently making plenty of superb steam locos. Although the A4s are version 2.0 they still work in TS2010 Native mode they are in both blue and green and are replateable. I personally like the US steam locos as there is far more detail on them. Ben Neal made some brilliant US steam and a lot still work in native mode (I don't use compatability mode if I can help it)
I bought TS12 ,but still not installed it, for the Russian content I like the international aspect of Trainz and to restrict it to regions would spoil the concept.
Incidentally when we quote who invented the steam locomotive we should also acknowledge the fact that the Americans had to re-invent them to work efficiently in their less than perfect environment. A study of the development of the US steam loco is facinating as is the history of the Baldwin locomotive company.

I also respect your choice but for me American locos are ugly. But I do like the F7s (Especially Hot Rod versions!), SP's Daylight, and I respect the Challengers (3985) and the Big Boys. Sierra No. 3 is also quite nice.

I just love British pacifics. Gresley's A1/A3s and A4s, the Duchesses and Coronations by William Stanier, and the West Country/Battle of Britain class, the GWR's The Great Bear, and the standard Britannia class.

Australia also has the C17s, DD17s, BB18s and AC16s. And 3801.

China has the QJ class of steam locomotives, and India has many British-built locos. Russia had the Andriev 4-14-4.

There are good and bad locos from each country, your list will be different from mine.

Now, let's just stop this, unless you are going to name good-looking or your favourite locos and not ones you find ugly.

And if you don't like someone else's choice, keep it to yourself! :)

Now, this thread should be closed.

Yea same here I think the Mallard and other streamlined UK steam like it is pretty ugly. I prefer the Flying Scotsman, the Duchess or the Black Prince now those are beautiful engines.

hert:wave:

How can you say that some of the American locos are sexy and some are ugly?
They all look the same. :p

Dean,

The new American locos are ugly. Their different company paint schemes make them look nice, but their overall box shape with a small cube on the front really isn't very pretty.

Now go back 50 to 60 years when railroads were starting into the diesel power, well then IMHO that's where these locomotives were beautiful. They were right up there with their steam counterparts with all kind so of fancy paint schemes and shapes. Take the famous Alco units for example. The Alco RS-3 was one of the famous switchers, which are still in operation on some shortlines. They appeared on the scene about 1950!

The early Fairbanks Morse units,, Alco PTs and FTs, and early EMD units are also real classics and really do have some shape.

Here's FM's highspeed Talgo train that was very short lived. They couldn't compete with EMD and exited the rail locomotive market.

:hehe:

I agree with the OP.

There is clearly not enough wood burning steam engines in Trainz12!

(Actually I was amazed and thrilled at how international TS12 was.)

I remember when I was a little nipper, there were these books at my grandmothers house called the Encyclopaedia of Knowledge and there was one book that had the latest thing, in rail transport, one was the Prototype Deltic and the other was American, the front of it was rounded like a bullet with a bump at the top were the driver sat, but the rounded front had a massive grill that reminded me of the baleen teeth of a whale. Well this Diesel used to give me nightmares; the front of it was so frightening. But alas I have never seen a picture of one since. I don't think there is one in trainz ether, I'm pretty sure it had a name badge in the front of the grill.

Did MAN do anything like that?

I think the name was a short one, and a well established one.
I think it also had a skirt at the front, a modern day cow catcher, sort of thing.
Dose anyone know the one, I'm blathering on about?
