on the weekend my son and i came across the Lahey's Canungra tramway tunnell and we explored it.

does anybody have any information and especially pics so that i can recreate this in narrow gauge?
any help would be gretly appreciated.
i have found some info on the sawmill complex but apart from that there is nothing on google or yahoo about the route they used and what it looked like
thanks

Hi Ron, I saw your similar question over on the 1930s map thread.

Have you seen John Kerr's material on Canungra?
http://www.daff.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/50783/qld_se_saw12.pdf

from

Forest Industry Heritage Places Study
Sawmills and Tramways

Can be downloaded so that is a bonus.

Also some Railpage material;

Laheys' Canungra Tramway
By Robert K. Morgan, revised by Frank Stamford

ISBN 0 909340 40 4
This booklet describes Queensland's largest timber tramway. It was originally published as a special edition of Light Railways, (No.54, Summer 1975-76).
The new publication is completely revised, with additional material, more photographs and maps, and a larger page size to give better presentation.
Laheys Canungra Tramway was a 3 ft 6 in gauge timber tramway in south-east Queensland which operated from about 1903 to the early 1930s. It used one B class Climax locomotive, and two A class and one B class Shay locomotives. The tramway ran through superb scenery, and included one tunnel through rock, and a 1 in 12-1/2 (8%) grade for over half a mile.To add more interest, it had a very basic T Ford railcar, an even more basic Commer railcar, and a home-made passenger car.
Soft cover, 32 pages plus 4 page card cover, A4 size, 26 photographs, 3 maps and 2 diagrams, references, and index. $A9.95 plus postage. (Weight 230gm)
[price to LRRSA members $A7.46 plus postage]

hi peta

the library at southbank had one that i looked at,

but my problem is that the maps were too small

i would need to know more about the area this line went through

thanks for the help though

it's greatly appreciated

i've got most of the detail about the mill

its the line i cant find much out about

i seen it once years ago when i was young on a display somewhere at a train ??meet?? show??

it had the sort of detail that i need

if i can get it close enough then i can download the 30's or 50's map and sort of overlay the track on them

thanks again mate

Hello,

@Misterchugg, I am not sure if you are still modelling the tramway and please excuse me for posting this when the thread hasnt been used for 2 years. I have a book on the layes Canungra tramway and has quit a lot of information on the locos, rollingstock, sections of the line etc. If you are still modelling the line, please let me know and I can scan a few pages and images for you.
