Hi all (Noob Questions Included in this thread)

First of all, I would like to say a big Hi to all players as I have just recently purchased a couple of the Trainz products= Trainz 2012, Trainz Settle & Carlisle, Trainz Duchess add ons.

Anyway, I am going through documentation as I find it etc but do have a burning question regarding downloading material via content manager in 2012.

Question
With the ammount of items showing up, where do I draw the line regarding downloading or in otherwords, how do I prevent myself downloading gigs worth of useless stuff?

Thanks in advance

The capacity of your local storage
The limits of your patience
The your ISP download limit
Your Auran download limit, aka FCT
Self control :hehe:
What you want vs what you really need / can use

Group Therapy.

Actually it is a learning process. I'm still new to trainz (7 months) and initially I found myself downloading everything I thought looked nice. After using the game a while / route building you realize that you can't use everything under the sun. I have actually gone back and deleted things I won't / can't use.

Hhhmmm we can safely assume that self control is a no go thus the fact I purchased all this stuff along with a FCT within 24 hrs :D .

There are just soooo many goodies and I have a feeling that I will be spending lots and lots of time in surveyor mode.

From the last two post I am getting the feeling that everyone suffers or has suffered from what I am going through lol. OK I will try and control myself :). Thanks for replies

While your downloading everything in sight just try to make sure it's only for versions 2010+2012. That way you know it will work (not be faulty).
Some older stuff will be ok but a lot won't.

Just to add depending on the capability of your PC, the more stuff you add the slower things like database repairs and opening tabs in surveyor will get.

G'day,

All just stepped out, so I will reply instead:hehe:.

Like you I only had ny Trainz for 7 months, but I knew ftom the start what kind of routes I wanted to build.
So it might be a good idea to deternine what kind of route, latout/period you want to bild, f.e a narrow gauge loggin railroad and then download only those assets that are applicable to it.

Myself I download mainly western european content coz my layouts are loosely based on the German steam era.

Here's another tip. From the start, go into the CMP, and disable al the inbuild content tht you think you are not going to use. it makes selection of assets much easier when building your route. You can always re-enable them later if you should change your mind.

Hope this helps a little.

Any computer based activity that can keep people enthralled so long, almost nine years in my case, is bound to result in a few extra downloaded bytes. The trick is to try and remove as many as you add as often as possible. Even with multi-TB drives available, it's not hard to overwhelm your system. Every extra asset you don't use is an asset that has to be needlessly managed. At least archive them and don't commit them to active status if you just have to download just one more. Your Trainz experience will be that much smoother.

G'day,

I sugest you start/join a "downloaders anonymous" group.
Alternatively have someone wack you over the head every time you want to DL. This kind of aversion therapy might work.:hehe:
