If the Moderators will just indulge me for a moment please.
Hmm – obviously
not a F-250 driver? Perhaps a Prius owner?
Way back when Adam was a kid a book was published here in Aussie-land called “Real Men Don’t Eat Quiche”. It was a tongue-in-cheek lament of the ascendancy of the metrosexual male in society. Those of us who enjoy re-runs of the very politically in-correct “The Benny Hill Show” and “Are You Being Served” found the book extremely cleaver and humorous. The Mary Whithouse’s and Fred Nile’s didn’t.
Since then there has been a resurgence of the pick-up driving, beer swilling, meat-pie eating Aussie male, witness the success on the world stage of our Russell Crowe and other Australian “real men” actors, though I believe that Russ’s most famous role had him wearing a skirt and sandals. He has also achieved some fame for using a telephone a an offensive weapon.
I’m sure if the Prius and Trainz had been in existence when the “Real Men … ” was written the author would have had some comments to make about both. Possibly a bit like mine.
I’m of the opinion that the choice of DCC or Cab Mode depends on how a user arrives to Trainz – either from 3.5mm to the foot or from 12 inches to the foot. That is – a replacement for a toy train set or the unrealised ambition to be train driver.
However, you will find that most of us Cab Mode enthusiast don’t actually drive
in the cab. Like you we like to enjoy watching the scenery and so we use the external view with keyboard commands.
“ … I would never have ridiculed you for doing things differently.” Hey - why not? It goes on a lot in these Forums. Though generally it’s seen as good natured banter. Other people do it so I don’t expect you to be an exception.
Coming back to Ben’s steamers, the three in my Rapidshare folder do work in DCC mode, otherwise I wouldn’t have released them. The modifications only apply to those three particular locomotives, but if you look at the aliases that I’ve used for the cab, enginespec and sound and also go into the config.txt file you will probably work out how to modify the remainder.
Be warned, though, that getting the four chuffs per revolution sound does involve a basic understanding of animation distances, direct-drive and invisible bogeys. If you have cracked the da Vinci Code it should be easy.
If you are looking for a TRS2009 session that uses one of Ben’s locomotives, see here:

There is a package of material that goes with the route, mouse click here:

The package includes maps, how to configure interactive industries and a tutorial about driving in Cab Mode.
Two other steam locomotives that I've modified for use in TRS2009 might interest you. They can be downloaded here:
