Hi Steve,

Not so easy as in previous versions, as it seems to be new developers' point of view:

Please, follow this graphical tutorial by clicking on the thumbnails.

If you have any further question on any of them, just tell.

My gratitude to Manu (manweb), my mate staffer at IBTZ, for the pictures.

First step: Renaming layers

Second step: Merging Layers and Importing one into another

The wondering-why-so-complex side of Alberte [Usually there's a waving goodbye emoticon here but due to the ten-picture limit, no way, and I don't want to split the post]

Trachside objects cannot be in a layer above the track they are attached to.
So now what do i do im no rocket scientist.

This sounds like there are trackside objects that were placed in the Session layer that should have been placed on the Route Layer.

The trick is to find out which layer they exist on, and which ones they are!

When i build route here is what i do,
1 press routes
2 highlight the route i am building
3 bottom right corner of screen press sessions once
4 select the session from the list
5 press edit session
is this why i am having trouble merging routes and missing content ,

I think so, Steve.

This is how I go about it:

1) Press routes
2) Highlight the route I'm building
3) Edit the route in Surveyor, including placing consists
4) I do a save-as and click do not overwrite a session because it will create a new session. I keep the default session.

I only edit the session when I am ready to drive. I will then go in and configure the different assets as needed. The only asset I have found so far that wants to be in both places are the portals, which need configuring in the session layer, but placed in the route layer.

I hope this helps. My method may not be perfect, or correct, but it works for me.

Well it looks like i have 4 option ,

1 start 5 months worth of building over again

2 merge them anyway and replace all missing content,it will be a massive amount

3 get in my car and just drive away and never look back

4 get carton of beer and crank up the old 8 track cassette player and whack on a bit of jonny cash ,I hear the train coming its coming round the bend,
ive been doing this route the wrong way since i don't know when,,,,
and quietly fall apon my own sword
signed, burnt out

That's a big bummer, dude. :(

Option 2 might be the best bet, but hold off until other people here have something to say. They may have some other ideas.

I wish you luck, and I'll see you tomorrow. It's getting close to bedtime for me here.

I think ill get that carton of beer anyway ,what the hell,do they still make sarrapacks ,,,,,only joking

In surveyor one of the buttons down the right hand side is for layers.

From here you can merge your sessions into the route layer. If you have placed any consists in a session these will also be moved on to the route layer but it will probably be easier to delete and replace these into a new session than try to work out what scenery items are on which session layer.

Not sure what will happen to configured industries or rolling stock where the information is only stored in a session.

Sessions Routes and Merging

the easiest thing I do before I attempt to merge two different routes is make sure I Merge my session layer with my route layer. using the GUI interface. Then save. I do this to BOTH layouts I may want to merge.

I then open the Route I want to add to. I make sure that I am in Route layer edit mode. then using the drop down menu I Merge the route. once I selected the route I want to merge and place it where I want it to attach I make sure that I merge the route layers before proceeding. once this done it will allow me to proceed.

I can see the usefulness of the layer system however it does take a little getting used to. Once you do though being able to make multiple sessions on one master route is easy as pie.

Problem has been fixed what i did was
1 selected route A then selected route B then merged the session and the routes from both A & B routes to each other ,using route A as the first selected route quiet often after the merge all of route A would remain intacted were route B of the merger would be missing stuff everywhere,
so then i saved the new merger under a new name and went back to surveyor and reselected the map in route editor under the new saved name,
then if map A was intact i deleted all of route B from it and saved it again under a new name once more .
2 selecting route B as the first route and did all the above again ,after this i had 2 routes that had all assets in place in route editor and then i merged the 2 route giving me the merger i was after.

I would just like to say thank you for everyone help and advise
regards steve

I'm glad everything worked out for you, Steve.
