FORUMS GONE

TrainzDiag troubleshooter
Is it just me or has nobody else noticed that we have lost two of our longest serving forums Trainz and UTC
What has happened to all the info that was contained in them ?
Like the FAQ and Help content.
Just last week I had some one contact me asking about UTC and where the service packs were.
Whats the next forum to go TRS2004?
If that goes down I can foresee a lot of angry trainz users

Hi guys,

Part of the life cycle policy?

This latter wouldn't have to have nothing to do with a forum on one part of the Trainz legacy mainly supported by trainzers. Who was disturbed by that? :o

Not a very sensible move from the Company if it turns to be a final decision, and less if moving higher to T4, T6 and so on.

OK, ok, there were not many threads on it but... the Trainz - Finnish contains only 19 (95 posts) since Nov 2006 and it's still there, not disturbing anybody, and serving my learning Finnish. :hehe:

The regretting but not angry side of Alberte . Anger makes you look older.

Disconcerting! I hadn’t noticed that – it must have been very recent.

I guess the page space is running short with TS12 and Trainz iPad appearing in the sub-forum list. It would have been nice to have seen an announcement though.

Are there any members with Trainz and/or UTC only registrations still out there?

Can they still log in, or are the “unsupported” also being cut off from the party together with their bespoke forums?

Will the mine of information in the old forums be accessible via any kind of search tool?

.

I noticed it on probably the first day of those forums being gone, and it got stuck in my mind to the point of me not being able to play Hotel Giant for very long. I just did not have the nerve to post about it then. :o They must have deleted those forums as soon as they added the TS12 forum, for I noticed their absence right away back on that day.

Well, the almost 5 years of accumulated knowledge that was in those two forums is probably now gone for good. :( So, probably the best that we can do is just go and open our own forum for users of UTC and earlier to get support for their version.

I agree with Robin Hoods that we need to support the TRS2004 forum--the lucky survivor--as much as we can, in hopes that N3V will have the mercy to preserve that forum when the next Trainz version comes out.

Regards. :(

Not very sporting of them was it? First they discontinue support and then jerk the rug out from under the two panels where you could go for help.

The very least they could have done was make it 'read-only' so we could search out answers.

I agree. Then again, the frequency of users posting in those forums was rather low, so there might have been a low enough difference between leaving them open and closing them to where leaving them open might have been at a rather small cost of server space over time (due to users not posting in there very frequently).

Regards.

True, the posting frequency was low. For that reason the move may have made sense. When we noticed that in our DHR Forum, we simply made it read-only for a couple of months and then closed it. We did publicize the closure however so it wouldn't come as a shock.

I did take the precaution of making a copy of the entire web site before we closed it. I still have it and could reproduce it if necessary.

I suspect that '04 will be the next to fall.

That's the way, Bill. Keeping a back-up of the website/forums after they have been taken offline is good thinking, in my opinion.

I feel that the deletion of the Trainz and UTC support forums might be more due to those versions being so old and unsupported than due to the posting frequency in them. Hopefully N3V did not do it as a way of "forcing" legacy users to update to the newer versions, for that would not be a wise move, and could turn away legacy users from updating just because they feel like they are being forced to, in my opinion. ;)

Again, probably the best (and maybe most) that we can do for now is to open up a new forum for users of UTC and earlier to get support for their version(s), and if N3V continues to remove the remaining support forums for the older versions over time, then we shall add new sub-forums for those versions to said new forum accordingly.

Regards.

That's what I would have done, and why, if I were the CEO. Trainz is a business now, it has been for some time. It used to be an experiment, a hobby if you will, but now it's a business.
Hell, I'm surprised at some of the business associations that Auran has made, given the past, but I don't wonder why. Business is business, and money is king.

Now now Retro00064 lets not bring the great forum crash back again. We've already dealt with it once and hopefully it won't happen again.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the report. No, the removal wasn't deliberate. A minor glitch in our forum software that only a few people noticed or bothered to report. We've rectified this now.

That said, please keep in mind that these products are unsupported and we may permanently remove these forums in the future. We will try to give notice when doing so, but no promises.

Damn, that could have been a fine conspiracy thread to follow over the upcoming weekend!:(
In any event, thanks for the clarification, and someone can start copying threads at their leisure now...

THIS JUST IN.... The Easter Bunny has stolen UTC and Trainz Support Forums on his way to pick up his eggs because he lost his glasses!!

It might make sense at some point to consolidate < TS2006 (and probably soon TS2009) in one "legacy" forum?
