Forum/entire site extremely slow

I feel we are just spinning our wheels here. There are now 9 pages of complaints (I know, a lot of them are mine) but they are just stating and re-stating the obvious. If N3V is actually doing anything, then perhaps there is hope. I do know that what I would be doing is burning up the wires between me and The Planet on an hourly basis DEMANDING to know why my servers are so slow. Most companies will not air dirty laundry in public, so I'm assuming that N3v is at least aware of the problem. Whether or not they are actually DOING anything (other than passively waiting for things to improve) is up in the air as nobody has even announced they even HAVE a problem.

To forestall any more posts to this, and other threads like this, N3V needs to post a sticky in the announcements panel that they acknowledge there IS a problem and that they are taking an ACTIVE part in trying to fix it. Until that happens, there will be more threads like mine; guaranteed. If this situation is allowed to continue unchecked, N3V is going to lose a lot of current customers and - potentially - new customers as the first thing I do when checking out new software is to take a gander at any forum associated with it. Anyone contemplating purchase of a Trainz product might have second thoughts after running across this forum.

Amen to that. Just took me over 3 minutes to access this thread and the last post. Why would anyone want to bother after an experience like that.

"EDIT POST" I just figured out the problem. N3V's servers are on dial-up.

I think that anyone of us technically inclined folk would have the server running better at our house then it's current location... They need to invest in slightly bigger rodents then hamsters to keep the server going to, hamsters are the cheap way out and always die unexpectedly....perhaps a possum would be better.

I think I discovered N3V's new server. What a powerhouse!

Two facts we have so far -

it is slow - there is a HUGE problem
nobody who can help is bothering to answer.

any that I missed ?
I can't help speeding up this forum, cause I have the same problem. But there are other forums around the world if you are in a hurry.

Well I don't want to get your hopes up too quick but the forums seem quicker and the search function more reliable today. For me it's been hopeless ever since the new format started.

Surprise, surprise, this morning Oz time all seems on my end as it was a few months ago, normally accessing any of the forum pages here. Fingers crossed it will remain this way from now on.

It seems AURAN/N3V have oiled the hamster wheel which was almost sized up with dirt and gunk.

*Edit, except the "Post quick reply" which kept on churning and churning and churning until asking me if I wanted to leave this page (why would I want to?) but I said "No" and this was posted.

Cheers

Good grief! instant page opening! and it's the weekend as well. Suggest they keep that can of WD40 handy in future.

Hmmm. 8 seconds to be able to type a response to the thread. Now, if it will just stay that way. Someone must have opened a can of whoopa$$ somewhere.

I remember speeds like this...I was using one of these! Apparently N3V found a couple of them on Ebay to use for their servers! :hehe:

While the speeds have improved at the moment, I wonder if it being Saturday in Australia and the Forum Servers are in Australia has anything to do with the increased speed.

Good theory however the servers including the forums are in the US not Australia.
Hi Clam,

To my knowledge, and Auran/N3V have said this many times, the DLS Servers are in the US while the Forum and Planet Auran Servers are in Australia. I have not heard anything different but then it is easy to miss something.

I did a whois look up on the hosting company. They are in fact located in Dallas, TX and are owned by another company that does servers.

SoftLayer Technologies, Inc.
4849 Alpha Road
Dallas, TX 75244
US

Domain name: THEPLANET.COM

Same company, two different web and server services.

I'm still getting 73ms ping turnaround average time, although I ping my workplace servers, which are located in CA, and I get 12ms turnaround average.

So again this isn't Auran's fault, per se. It's the crappy host they have for their web servers.
