Forum/entire site extremely slow

Well I am mighty glad to see this thread.

At first I thought it was just my end and someone in our rival city of Edinburgh was trying to do in a Glasgow man. Working on two browsers the same dashed slow problem wether it is these Forums or the DLS. On a good occasion, I can wait only 30 seconds to get on to the next page on the Forum (usually longer) and it is a drag working through even a few pages long thread. Never used to be like this and it does become an irritant when you don't get it elsewhere on the Net.

Very well said, gentlemen. If a company has difficulty with its presence on the net today, this can be a detriment to their business.

There appears to be a problem though with the network its self. It's not DNS because NSLookup resolves right away to the host, but the network hops to the forum server and to other network infrastructure such as Planet Auran, etc., are really slow. This would explain the slow server times and long delays because the packets have to keep retrying. A ping for of 70ms turnaround for me from New England is quite slow. This is pretty bad since I'm only connecting to Houston. I'd blame this on bad weather, which they have right now, but this was not the case yesterday or a week ago. There's something wrong with planet.com's hosting services.

If this was Auran's fault directly, such as not paying a bill, or other issues, then their websites would not be operational at all. This is definitely something wrong with the hosting company. In the past I dealt with a company in Chicago that did the same thing to my old company. Their services would go crappy periodically and I'd have to talk to the tech over at the company. I swear in this case, the dude ran the company out of his basement.

And, during this entire 6-page thread, there has only been one N3V "official" making a comment - and that was "I'll pass on the information". Perhaps Zec can't actually DO anything about it. Like a previous post said, I think this all started after the big forum meltdown and subsequent resurrection. N3V needs to kick The Planet's butt, big time.

I agree, Bill. Zec is doing the right thing in his powers as customer/community support head. He's not on the technical side of things, so he needs to get that guy's butt in gear to do something. They should find another host. Perhaps Network Solutions would be better than these guys. I never, ever, had a problem with them and have dealt with that company for nearly a decade.

They actually have human support based right here in the USA where their company is located, and the people even speak English too. Hmmm. That's a bit different these days.

Something appears to be amiss internally with N3V. I hope it is not fatal. Trainz is way better than FB.

"EDIT" I just broke the 2 minute mark. Browser (Chrome) said "Forum is extremely slow cancel or wait".

Hey, it's fast for me

I just for once wanted to be that guy who always chimes in with "you must be doing something wrong, it works fine for me. Have you defragged your drive and installed the latest drivers?"

But nah, just kidding, it's as slow as a wet week.

I just love that the little yellow 'Auto Save' flag pops up twice between 'Post Reply' and the reply posting...

Me too! Also, if I don't click "Remain on the page", Firefox won't even attempt to continue. Still looking for something that will bypass that question.

I have three sites that are hosted on GoDaddy and I love it. If I don't get a question answered within an hour, I start to wonder if they got it. They're based in Arizona and have US-based tech support. You call, they answer. Their forum is great also.

GoDaddy will not answer their phones during NASCAR racing weekends!!:udrool:

That's another anomaly, I use Firefox & have to select "Leave page" to continue, if I select "Remain on the page" it
does absolutely nothing.

It appears nothing much has changed I am still getting slow load in pages even though I have broadband and a hub that is supposed to give me 30gb download speeds.
It is slow slow and slower despite the fact that zac said he was going to report it .

Agreed - Sloooooow!

AND if you click on the "new threads" then there are none - and have not been for several days it seems.....

:'(

I usually dont care if a site is a bit slow, but this website is breaking records every hour now.

Can someone change the engine on the current server? This is just terrible.
