Forum/entire site extremely slow

EDIT: A NEW RECORD!!!!! ----->>>>>> 112 seconds to make and post a new entry in this thread!!!

Who will be the lucky Trainzer to break the 2 minute mark?

Or better still, don't try running a service that you can't afford, do the decent thing & inform your customers that the service will be crap at the outset, instead of making false claims & promises, just to let everyone down.

Words of a wiseman spoken . But seriously, I wonder if an n3v mod has even looked at this yet....

Hi All
I've passed this on to our admin for him to look into, as apparently my original report didn't go through to him. Thank you all for reporting this issue.

Regards

It isn't just the forum either, Zec. The whole N3v site is very slow and cumbersome. My FCT access using CM is still around 35-55kbps when it used to be around 10 times that fast (350-500 kbps).

It is still taking me 20 to 30 seconds to call up a thread or move from forum to forum, and I have an 11.5 Mbps connection. The blogs are even worse. Went there to see if I could find an answer to a question and it took 115 seconds to go from page 1 to page 2, whereupon I gave up.:n:

43 seconds from clicking the response link to viewing the thread. Too much effort to even try and time the amount it takes to respond (other than this).

I asked the same question twice and when I wanted to delete the extra one it took ages after I hit the save button...I eventually cancelled the change because I was afraid I am going to break something and the whole forum shuts down and someone pins it on me.

I've aborted replies on several threads today due to the now getting a bit tedious "Firefox can't find the server at forums.auran.com. Wonder what the odds are on this one actually getting posted?

Site seems slow for me again tonight.

Shane

EDIT: Post took approx 1 minute 15 seconds to actually appear from clicking the Post Quick Reply button.

They've took the plug out again, back to sloth speed.
Beat you Shane, 1 min 32 secs for my reply to show, it's a bit sad we're timing it:)

Took 121 seconds (2 minutes 1 second) from notification email link to display. Fortunately, my Firefox has Tab Mix Plus and I can click a link and "Open link in background tab". When the tab changes color from purple to yellow it is ready to be viewed. I'm free to move on to other sites and whatnot before getting back to this pokey forum. This goes way beyond dial-up speeds.

Here in Peterborough South Australia it is more than 90 seconds for anything to happen and to activate any link on this forum. Wake up AURAN/N3V, only 178 members browsing today at this time, how long is it going to take for the forum to slow down even more if 400 or so members decide to go online here one day as has happened in the past? You HAVE TO DO something about the slowness of the forum ANYWAY, so why not do this now instead next Christmas or the one after next.

Unless this is a cunning plot in place to chase members away for good, hey presto, suddenly easier server loads then. Just imagine Bethesda, Electronic Arts, Activision, Bioware etc. had such a crappy forum setup as experienced here lately, lynching mobs would descent on these headquarters, outcries would be heard all over the planet or worst. It is no good from an AURAN/ N3V spokesperson here to explain after some 2 weeks of these forum issues/problems here that finally someone at AURAN/N3V is being made aware of this problem. NO WORD though of what IS being done, NO WORD of what WILL BE done, NO WORD of WHEN this will be fixed.

As well as the long ongoing saga of the slowness, non download ability of content, not finding content which clearly shows of being on the DLS, error messages such as:

"C:\Downloads\TRS-TS\kuid_-10_173.cdp could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. Try again later, or contact the server administrator." or sever full, try later or such,

when this or any CDP d/loads 3 quarter way at snail pace with a FCT. Surely after more than 12 months of these crappy DLS issues/problems, one would think, something would have been done by now.

Not so and by the look of it NOTHING WHATSOEVER WILL BE DONE in the foreseeable and not so foreseeable future to fix these issues. What are we, your loyal customers, who spend our money to support you and your products, are we suddenly crap, dirt, non entities, none existing, persona non granta or whatever to be treated this way with contempt by you, AURAN/N3V? Why not at the very least give us an explanation WHY THE HELL these forum and DLS issues/problems are still persisting, even after over a year ( with DLS) of such issues/problems already. If we would know, we possibly could understand and at the very least we could then wait until these issues HOPEFULLY are getting fixed.

Please don't say, this might be my Internet connection, my ISP where I am or such but if I go on Bethesda's or Nexus's or EA's etc. web site and d/load whatever, be these updates, mods, utilities etc., usually these d/load with 1-3 Mbs speed, yours in comparison from the DLS start off (with a "lifetime" [<----what a joke] FCT) with some 70 kbs on a good day, fizzle out half way through to less than 2 kbs or most likely stop altogether and fail to d/load. If I would contact a business the way you do contact yours (AURAN/N3V), I would have been broke a long time ago. Even the spruiking/advertising of you (AURAN/N3V) when trying to sell FCTs is IMHO a misleading, if not a blatant and outright lie as one NEVER EVER gets the DL speeds that you (AURAN/N3V) claim, one will get after buying one of these FCTs.

These issues/problems will not go away by sticking your (AURAN/N3V) head in the sand and ignoring all and sundry and wishing, these issues will disappear in time. They will NOT go away, on the contrary, these issues will compound and in the end WILL affect your sales. Is this what you (AURAN/N3V) really want? I am already looking at some of the other Rail Simulations, if I find one that suits me, guess what? You can kiss me goodbye or whatever you would like to. I have an inkling that some of other members might be thinking a similar way. I have been loyal to you (AURAN/N3V) for some 8-9 years, I have bought EVERY edition of TRS/TS, some of these several times over, I also have bought quite a few of your other games in the past BUT I DO question WHY I should be still loyal to you (AURAN/N3V). What have you ever done for me except in the last 2 years brought on much anger, resentment, often an aggressive streak in me I never thought would exist within me. This does not go too well health wise either. Plus the countless times I spend chasing IMAGINARY faults on my PCs which were NO faults on my end but were CLEARLY produced/caused on and by YOUR servers.

Well, over to you, what have you (AURAN/N3V) got to say to the above?

VinnyBarb

Well said. I wouldn't even presume to improve on that post, VinnyBarb. I have noticed that quite a few of what I would call 'big guns' have weighed in here on this thread and, if it keeps up, the noise at Auran/N3V can't help but keep increasing until a fuse blows. When that happens, I'm out of here.

VinnyBarb and HiBaller,

What you gentlemen are warning about may already be happening. Looking at the the forums I note that none have new posts except this one. Unusual, I think, considering it is now after work and school is out in most of the US. The number of members on line is dwindling as well.

Auran/N3V must be aware that in all of the endless threads comparing Trainz to this competing simulator or that, the decisive factor in the argument is usually the Forums and the DLS. I believe they are Auran/N3v's competitive edge. Cannot imagine why this problem has been neglected. In my experience, the decrease in performance goes back as far as the new forums, though it has now become worse. If this is the trade off, a few new features in exchange for inaccessibility, it seems a bad bargain and I wish the old forum were back.

Bernie

Covered all points there I think Vinny!

I suspect that some more reliable hardware located somewhere that N3V staff can go and thump it when it goes wrong might be the answer rather, than rely on Theplanet.com to actually maintain working equipment. To my mind being this slow equates to a drive dying.
