Editing config.txt files in Windows Vista/7 Notepad - 'access denied' Solution

There is a small security risk in doing this, but it is a solution to the 'access denied' error when making changes to a config.txt (or similar) file in Trainz.

1.Click Start to open the start menu.
2.Click in the search box, then type Notepad.
3.Right-click Notepad when it appears.
4.Click Properties.
5.Click Advanced.
6.Click in the box labelled 'run this program as an administrator'
7.Click OK twice (once in each box)

To reverse this, follow the same instruction, but untick rather than tick the box in step 6.

EDIT: This has been tested by myself and verified (by editing a config.txt file)

As an alternative, at step 4 you can select "Run as Administrator." That will run the program as Administrator for the current session, and when you close the program it will revert to running as your standard user.

Chuck9c8, most people only want to have to follow a set of instructions once - with your method, they would have to do the same each time.

Also, when using the method I have posted, you don't need to worry about UAC when double-clicking a config.txt/texture.txt file.
