Downloading Missing Dependencies

After having installed the UMR2010 route which needs 1500 assets from the DLS and some from another web site, I downloaded and installed first, I got myself a 1.Class ticket for a year and started the Content Manager.

Doing much after midnight on the Internet when things are quieter here in the UK and guys in the US are at home after work, I started downloading Missing Dependencies at 4.00 AM and then went to bed.

Getting up just before 12:00 noon below shows how much it has done and at what download speeds.

Is that the best a Auran 1.Class ticket can do ?

That simply is not good enough and shall not attempt similar in future ! :(

Downloading from my UK web site gets me these download speeds at one of the UK Internet peak periods, Lunch Time, when most are reading their e-mails, etc, on their office computers and about 180 KpS off-peak : ;)

Okay, seems to me, that possibly, you have yet to 'activate' your FCT (First Class Ticket). Go to your Planet Auran account, navigate down the left hand side until you see Download Tickets, in there you should see your FCT, and wether or not it is currently 'active'. If not, activate it now, but be mindful, it can take anywhere up to 72 hours to fully 'activate', but once it does, you should get much higher access speeds.

If it's a large download it can sometimes download up to 500kb p/s with a good, not great Internet connection, with an FCT

Thanks for the prompt response !

Don't recall being asked to do that after buying it and is active now.

The windows when buying it and the Accounts Details windows can not be maximized. :o

So it seems and trying once more noticed that the size of the download has now increased significantly.

Why ?

Can the programmer/s responsible for maintaining the Auran web site not code it so that the download function is updated instantly, my account now saying that my 1.Class ticket is now ACTIVE !

Why does it have to be "Activated" in the first place, which is what receiving the money should do automatically ?

Otto,

The download size increases signifigantly because the actual route file is very small, ie perhaps 1 or 2 MB, and all the content that is used on that route is not installed on your local system yet. My personal route, for example is 45MB in size. This is the route files only, and not the content. When I archived everything related to the route, it came out to be over 3GB because it included all of the referenced buildings, track, trees, etc. that go with the route.

As you download content off of the DLS, your future route downloads will be smaller because you will have the local dependencies on your system already, and the items won't be required again.

That means if you like a set of routes, eg, snow, you probably won't have to download all the grasses, trees and textures again and again

Activating FCT

When my existing FCT is about to expire, I buy another so that it is available when needed. I don't want the new one starting before the old one expires.

As to the wait I'm guessing Auran needs a human to verify payment and activate. It looks like Auran is using at least three separate databases: One for the DLS, one for the forums, and at least one for Planet Auran.

Although it would be possible to unify all of them, allowing for a faster ticket activation, that would require major work. A lot more than you probably realize. Personally, I'd rather Auran work on Trainz itself.

I like the seperation of the forums from the secure PA account. This keeps serial numbers and such away from people that like to hack forum servers.

It maybe more difficult to mange, but it makes things a bit more secure.
