Disappearing 1km Basemaps

I was having trouble getting Basemaps to work in 2009 until I found an explaination of how to 'upgrade' them for 2009.

All seemed to work fine to start with, but I soon found the map section I was using would keep on disappearing, particularly if viewed dirrectly from above. It was bothersome enough when contouring the landscape, but now I am trying to acurately lay track etc. it is making life impossible. Strangly, the problem is noticeably greatest on the eastern side of all the maps, a, b, c, d, or whatever ones I'm using.

Has anybody else here suffered this problem or maybe know what I am doing wrong?

Have you tried wireframe mode?

If you can see the basemaps clearly in wireframe the chances are that the flat basemap image might be partly showing because the terrain you have created is not completely flat.

Basemaps are objects so you could try raising/lowering them to see if that makes any difference.

Hi Casper,
Yes, I have been working mostly in wireframe mode, particularly when contouring. The basemap will be visible from all angles on the west side of the board, but suddenlt disappear as I navigate over to the east side. Lowering the angle of view can make it reappear . . . . . sometimes, but I need to be able see the whole basemap, ideally viewing straight down from above. I've reloaded and overwritten countless maps, but the problem persists. :(

Hi again PJ.

I've just tried to replicate your problem.

I can't make parts of basemaps disappear but I have found that an adjacent complete basemap to the one I'm working on can disappear if the Performance Settings>Scenery>Draw Distance slider bar is reduced to a low setting. It's probably a bit of a long shot but you could try increasing it to maximum.

If this doesn't fix it I'm at a bit of a loss to know what else to suggest, but I'm sure someone will have some suggestions or an answer. Anyone?

Cheers
Casper

Edit: It looks as if you have double posted this question in the TS2009 Forum:o. Anyway, bchester seems to have an answer for you here. Hope it works!

Hi Casper,

Thanks for trying to figure the problem. Your suggestion might not of fixed it, but has improved the performance :)

If I can figure out where and how I do what bcester has suggested, then hopefully it will be the fix I'm looking for.
