Detailed Locomotive Recommendations?

Hi Everyone!

My last Trainz title was 2004, which I enjoyed heavily until life interrupted. But now I'm back for the 2022 version! I'm surprised at how much has changed, and at the same time how much hasn't (in a good way). So I'm wondering what new things addon developers have been able to utilize in creating locomotives, and what some of the best locomotives out there are? Are there models with more advanced cabin controls now? (I'd love to have a distance counter for first person operating)

Thanks!

There is a Session Rule called 'Display Custom HUD' that provides an odometer and trip meter, though this session rule is not included in sessions as a default feature, you have to add it yourself. In Surveyor, go into 'Edit Session', select 'Add Rule', select 'Display Custom HUD', and select the confirmation button.

There are a lot of great locos on the DLS by many different authors. Also, depending on what era you are looking for, you will find a lot of great locos, freeware and payware, at Trainz Forge , Jointed Rail, & K&L Trainz for starts.

Wow, I didn't know there was a feature for that! Thanks for the tip!

Display Custom HUD also shows the next signal aspect (red, yellow, or green), the next speed limit, and the current grade (uphill, downhill, how steep, etc.) All these features are now taken over by the navigation display at the bottom of the screen, so it sort of obsoletes the Display Custom HUD Rule.
