Dead train?

I have seven trains on the route layer, when given instructions in a session one just sits there calling itself 'consist 6' blocking in Basti, Andrew and their friends.
Simple remedy no doubt, but I haven't a clue:(

does the message window say anything? Have you signaled the line? Is there a path to the train's destination?

Have been searching the forums regarding layers, I can see your posts and can now see I have been wrong all along and been getting frustrated losing stuff.
Main problem is being sure I am working on a session then when I come to save it asks if I want to save the route, there seems to be no alternative and things go down-hill from there.
Main mistake is setting triggers and programming up to eight consists and losing track of it.
Finish up with a mountain sessions and pulling my hair out:confused:
Back to research....

I find the best way is to use the "Edit Session" option.

Then go to the "Layers" tab (white folders icon) and lock + hide the session layer and select the route layer. Make all you route edits (track, scenery etc.) in the route layer.

When you want to add consists, unlock + unhide the session layer and then select it. Add what you need and then, to be safe lock, and maybe hide the session layer again.

On saving you will find that only one route and one session are saved.

(This works fine until you want to do clever things with layers for multiple sesions)

Just saying that 2010 sounds cooler and stuff but i think i will stay with TRS2006 for now. 6 months from now i might be asking the same question

Ok, I will follow that advice.
i have found a good tutorial on youtube regarding layers whereby track, signals, roads etc are on separate layers.
i will create a bare-bones route/session, save, edit it a few times and when satisfied, back to the main route.

At last I see the light!
Tracks, signals, even speed signs on separate layers in Route.
Consists, etc in Session.
Saved individually, ran the session, back into the route for modification, ran again.
Just one route and session showing, all is right with the world!
Thanks for the help.

I load the session layer and make all mods on the session layer. Reason I do this is because if you route is populated with consists you risk deleting them if you if you remove/modify a track section or remove a grid. That's the way I edit my route. I have one session only and see no reason to have more then one at a time to work on, I guess its a age thingy! Every now and then I'll merge the session & route layers, but I still do everything one the single session layer.
